Happy Birthday, Odie! 35 Years!

Tomorrow is a special day here on the BoggsMobile and I want you to be aware of it.

35 years ago today was a Sunday. KJo and I were living in Wilmington, Ohio. We drove to Harveysburg for church Sunday morning and we were back in church Sunday night. Sunday afternoon, we walked all over Main St. in Waynesville, Ohio. It was the second day of the Sauerkraut Festival that year and we took it all in.

I am sure we ate lots of good food and I distinctly remember walking around town enjoying the absolutely beautiful fall day. I have never forgotten the warmth of the sunshine and holding Kelly Jo's hand. It was a great day.

We did not go back to Wilmington that night. We stayed at my parent's house Sunday night, because my Mother was taking Kelly Jo for a routine doctor appointment Monday and I had to work. KJo did not have her license to drive yet. YES, she was old enough to have her license though.😁😀

While preparing for bed that night, we discussed baby names. We were two months from having a baby but for some reason, we decided we needed to settle on names. Before we went to sleep, we had a name for a boy and a name for a girl.

At some point, KJo began having some difficulties and her routine appointment turned into an emergency. She called my boss and he tracked me down on a job. KJo wanted to know whether to go to the hospital in Cincinnati or Dayton, Odie was on the way.

At 8:49 that evening, Monday, October 14, 1985, our daughter was born by emergency surgery. Being so early, things were touch and go for a while, but soon I was holding my little girl in my hands. I was smitten at once and loved that little baby more than I could imagine loving anything just a few moments before.

It was love at first sight and it has been love ever since. You know that little bundle of joy by the name of Odie. 35 years ago tomorrow, Odie discovered the world and the world has never been the same! We are thankful for Odie Podie Pickle Hymer Schmidt.

I wrote about the drama surrounding her birth and the victory that came a few years ago.

Please join us in wishing Odie a Happy 35th Birthday.

Happy Birthday, Odie! We love you!
