One Month

Hey Friends,

Thanks for joining me for another installment of the blog. I have a few different blog posts swirling in my brain. I can not make my thoughts cohesive and flow out my fingertips. Hopefully, I can get them out soon.

Our longtime readers know dates and commemorating life’s moments mean a lot to us. Dad liked to look back and remember the milestones.

Today, is a date I wish I did not have to talk about, but Dad would if he was here.  One month ago Daddy was set free from this life.

I know he is still enjoying his life. He is no longer suffering, bound by time and physical limitations. None of us can even image the life Dad has now in Heaven. That realization gives me hope and comfort.

Down here each day that passes I miss him more and more. Everyday we are trying to figure out life. Real life hurts! Dad often quoted Garfield, “Life Stinks”! I say a hearty double amen!

One thing I know God is good! He has been there every moment in our grief and uncertainty. We are truly blessed!

Thank you for the prayers, friendship, encouragement, help and love. Our family and friends are absolutely amazing. We love you all! Thank you just feels so hollow, but it is meant from the bottom of my heart.

See you tomorrow.

God Still Has It All In Control

Hey Friends,

It is Wednesday, I don't have A Word for Wednesday for you. I I do think it would be fitting to post a video featuring Dad.

This was originally posted to our blog and YouTube in February 2021. This is a song from a service in Livingston, Texas. This was recorded at the Beech Creek Assembly with Pastor Don Goodwin.

On this particular Sunday, we were not scheduled to be in Texas. I believe God ordained for us to be in the service. This is just one of the ways that God showed us He was indeed in control!

One week later Covid forever changed our lives. Dad and I were diagnosed with Covid for the first time the following Sunday, January 31, 2021. Dad never fully recovered from Covid and the many health problems that followed after that. One thing we never forget and never will: God is in control!

This powerful service has never strayed far from my memory since it happened. I am so grateful that it was caught on camera and recorded. We forever have the memories with us! I went back last night and rewatched this video. I wanted to hear, in particular, the message that came from God during this song!  It gave me great solace, even now.

Wow, there was no way we could know what the future held for our family. But God was speaking to us even then! Today, I hold onto his promises. I trust that He still has it all in control!

Please take time to watch this video. Also, I will post the link to the post Dad wrote about this day on the blog himself. It is worth rereading!

Thanks for visiting with me! See you tomorrow. To quote Dad, "Ciao for now."

Tribute to Davy By Larry Smith

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking in for another Tuesday. Thank you for dropping by to visit with me. I appreciate all of you who have let me know that you are still enjoying the blog. I am doing my best to keep it going.

Today, I have another tribute for you that was sent to me about my Dad. Our dear friend wrote this tribute that we affectionally call “Uncle Larry”. Uncle Larry lives in Ellisville, Mississippi, where he attends First Assembly. He is an exceptional friend to our family. Dad often referred to Uncle Larry as his hero!

The special day Uncle Larry talks about in his tribute below will always be a highlight in our lives! It was special for us to spend time with him and his Vietnam brothers! We were honored to be there to support our friend!

Our Bro Davy Boggs has gone to be with the Lord he has preached about for all these years and here is something to show how special him and his family are.

They were starting a meeting in the Dallas area at the same time we were holding our Vietnam reunion. On Friday afternoon they took time out of their busy schedule to spend time with me and my Vietnam brother's. That's what makes the Boggs family so very special to me and especially to our church. I hope they know how much we love them.”

Uncle Larry, thank you for your service to our country! Thank you for being our friend You will forever be our hero. Thanks for the invitation to join you for such a special event!

In answer to your question, we know that you love us and your church loves us! You all have proven it time and time again! Thank you for your prayers and standing by us!

Thanks for reading! See you next time!

Tribute to Davy Boggs By Sis. Andrea Hammond

Hey Friends,

Several people have shared great tributes to my Dad that have been posted online. Mom and I love seeing the impact Dad left on so many lives. He had no idea how many people he truly touched.

I plan to periodically share some of the tributes here, too. Today, I am sharing a post by Sis. Andrea Hammond from November 10th 2024

Mom and I were moved to tears when we read this story. God is amazing, and Dad loved to be a vessel God could use. He was a cheerful giver!

Andrea, thank you for remembering this moment. Thanks for your friendship and prayers!

“ Bro Davy Boggs' obedience to God built my faith in a monumental way!!

It was the summer of 2009, I was working trying to save money to get back to Bible School, and the Boggs came to preach a revival at the church I was interning at that summer, I felt impressed to give $100 in the offering, at the time it seemed like quite a sacrifice.

Two years later I was discouraged heading into a service at Bible Holiness, because I was supposed to go on choir tour that weekend and I literally had not a penny to my name. The Boggs unexpectedly showed up that night and Bro Taylor had him preach, they sang "Faith gives me Hope" After church that night he walked up to me, shook my hand and left the exact amount of money in it that I'd given in that revival!

I knew God was teaching me something about Faith and I've never forgotten it!

Praying tonight for his sweet family!!!”

Alcapulco Is Now Known As Unclepopo

Hey Friends,

This is Odie reporting in for this Tuesday. Mom and I are still doing good, by God’s grace. We definitely have our moments. We feel like our new reality of life without Dad is not real! God gives us strength for each moment.

We greatly appreciate the prayers from our family and friends. All of your calls, text emails and comments have encourages us immensely!

Saturday we met Aunt Karen and some of the family for lunch at Alcapulco.

Little Miss Chloe Jean gave the restaurant a new name. It is now known as Unclepopo. We think that is a fitting name, in memory of Uncle Davy The Great.

Uncle Davy taught Chloe Jean to love salsa at Alcapulco. She still loves it, and he was so proud of his accomplishment.

The salsa and food were extra good on Saturday!

It was to cold for an outside group photo. Charlie and Chloe wanted a picture with the horse.

Thanks for stopping by to visit.

The Weekend Dispatch 11/7/24

Hey Friends,

This post is one of the last post, I know Dad had worked on 3 weeks ago. It was supposed to be published 11/7/24, better late than never.

The regular weekend post is a little late this time around. Dad had started composing the Weekend Dispatch that should have been posted on Monday, but it was preempted due to Dad’s sickness.

He had everything written through lunch on Saturday. I tried to pick up and finish the post where he left off.

From Davy

Our weekend began with us having lunch with Bro. Bruce and Sis. Priscilla Mayhan as they arrived to see us in Wichita. Our lunch was at Tacos TJ on West Street.

I ate my first taco in over 10 months and it was so good. The corn tortilla was replaced by shredded cheese grilled into the shape of a tortilla. Wow! Swallowing the taco was not the easiest thing but it was so worth it! One taco was more than enough to fill me up so that tells you about how much less I have been eating since the stroke.

The food was great and the fellowship with our dear friends was even better.

Friday night we walked into revival service and received a super surprise. Steve and Karen drove up from Alabama for the weekend. The church folks were thrilled to see them and we were too.

The service was wonderful again and it was made even better by our friends and family being there, including Elder Bost and his grandson. It was great to have them too.

Odie captures a few more pictures from Friday night.

Saturday we met the Mayhans for lunch again along with Steve and Karen. Yes, I had another Cheese Shell Taco! It was another wonderful meal and we enjoyed the visit soooo much!

From Odie

There was no church on Saturday night.  It poured the rain most of the day. We went to bed Saturday evening, hoping to enjoy our extra hour of sleep with the time change.

Within just a little while, Dad woke up suffering horribly in his body! His suffering continued for hours on end. Sadly, we did not get to make either of the services to finish up the revival. Thank you to Pastor DiZazzo and the church of Bethany Revival Center. They were very understanding and helpful to us during our time of need.

Sunday afternoon before rain set in again Mom was able to go into the church and break down our sound equipment. Thank you to my Aunt Karen Boggs and all of our friends who assisted Mom!

We had hoped to start traveling toward home on Monday. As you know, we were unable to travel. Life does not always go as planned. God Is always good! We thank him for His faithfulness to our family and for helping us through every day.

The friends and family that we were able to see on Friday and Saturday encouraged us and helped us through Dad’s unplanned sickness.

God allowed my Uncle Steve and Aunt Karen to be there when we needed them once more! They stayed in Wichita to help us! That was a HUGE blessing to the three of us and all of our family at home.

Thank you for reading today! See you next time.

Sunday Sanity 11/24/24

Hey Friends,

The local funeral home in Waynesville, Ohio is incredible. We have always known Stubbs and Conner was the best, but we witnessed it first hand. Their care of the family and every detail is extraordinary! Thanks to Brad Conner and the entire team at Stubbs and Conner.

The banner pictured below is just one of the small touches that added a big impact.

In Davy's words,
"We are humbled by what Christ has done in our lives and unashamed to travel the roads singing and preaching that Christ will do the same for all that go to God the Father through Him.”
