Vintage View Vednesday Glacier National Park 2007

You may have noticed that yesterday's post was not Vintage View Vednesday as many of you probably expected. Our ATT phone service at Forts Lake is notoriously slow, but Tuesday it fell off the cliff and into the deep blue sea. Ouch! The normal slow speeds seemed like lighting fast compared to the new slow all day long.

I could not get pictures to load at all. I tried again Wednesday morning and it was still slow, but moving. It only took about four hours to load the Vintage View pictures yesterday morning and afternoon.

Yesterday's replacement post was late due to a glitch from the slow signal, but it did go up. IF you are an early morning reader, you may have missed it. HERE it is. We will wait for you and drink coffee until you are finished.

Vintage View Vednesday (On Thursday)
The pictures today come from our full day driving the Going To The Sun Road in Glacier National Park with my parents in the fall of 2007. It was a gorgeous day to take in a bunch of gorgeous scenery. I hope you enjoy the pictures and a few stories along the way.

Our first stop was the restaurant at St. Mary Villiage at the eastern beginning of the road through Glacier. We had eaten breakfast at another restaurant down the road the morning before.

We walked into a beautiful old lodge style building and admired it all.

They had a piano that was a virtual twin to KJo's piano.

After admiring the lobby and the building we were seated in the restaurant. They informed us that they were only days away from closing for the season and they had absolutely no meat for breakfast. They had everything else, but if we wanted meat, they recommended the small place down the road.

We had eaten at the place down the road the day before so we knew it was very good. They were fine with us leaving, so we loaded Odie back up and drove about 1/4 mile and did it all over again.

We ordered our food and waited for the meal. Once the food was on the table we bowed our heads to pray. After prayer, one of us looked around and surveyed all of our plates. Do you know what we saw?

Even though we left the first restaurant and went across the road because the first place did not have any meat. Not one of us ordered any meat for breakfast. We laughed about it until our food was about cold!

Now it was time for Dad and Mom to see Glacier National Park, one of our favorite spots on earth.

The lakes are amazing and the light was perfect for the mountains to reflect off the water. Beautiful!

Going to Glacier in the fall is so much different than going in June or July. We have been to the visitors center on Logan Pass in June when snow was still up to the roof. It is different in September, but no less breathtaking.

Down the western side.

What an amazing, beautiful trip! I hope you are enjoying it. Thank you for going along.

A Schedule Adjustment

ATT is almost non-existant here at Forts Lake and Tuesday it was gone. I could not get pictures for Vintage View Vednesday to post last night so I wrote an update about our schedule. I tried to get it to publish for probably 30 minutes and then it went through a little after midnight, I thought. This morning I started hearing from people about "no post" and realized, it did not go up. Oops!

I repent in sackcloth and ashes. MAYBE it will go up now.

A Schedule Adjustment
Our schedule is never written in stone, more like written in jello. Although we make commitments with the full intention of following through, some things can not be helped. Thankfully this time it is minor.

Both vehicles have needed a little tweaking this week.

The Green Machine
You may remember that the Green Machine needed a starter and battery when we were near here at Tanner Williams Church with Pastor Donnie Williamson in late September last year. We took it to Pep Boys in Mobile and they replaced the starter and battery on October 1.

You may also remember that by October 20, the battery was showing signs of weakness. We have lost count of how many times it has needed to be jumped since then. We finally purchased a 12V jump box. We have used it at least six or seven times and we love the convenience of that.

Not only do I think the new battery was defective, but it was not near as many cranking amps as the previous battery. I took the car back to Pep Boys Monday to tell them about the battery and found that they do not sell a battery with more cranking amps. They said that if I could find the battery that I wanted, they would refund my money.

Done and done. I picked up the new battery Tuesday, changed it out and took the old one back to Pep Boys.

The BoggsMobile
We have been hearing very intermittent and brief sounds from the front brakes on the bus. When we had the oil changed in Pendleton, Kentucky Thursday, I asked the guy to look at the brakes as he was greasing everything. He said the rotors and brakes looked good.

Saturday morning between Richton and here we heard the sound louder and more consistently with braking and a little bit of sound after the brakes released. When we arrived here, I inspected the wheels from the outside and found lots of brake dust on the driver's side from wheel.

I was hopeful that the problem was simple and a change of brake pads would rectify it. Monday morning I went to Mike's Truck and Trailer Repair. The owner is the brother of some dear friends of ours and he has a great reputation as a mechanic. He came to the church Monday afternoon with one of his guys and removed the driver's side wheel.

It turns out the caliper has failed and the back side of the rotor was eaten away.

He said they could change everything out if I could get the parts from Prevost. I immediately called Prevost and they found everything we need in two cities. The only hitch is that bus brake parts are heavy and overnight and 2nd-day air shipping was cost prohibitive so it will be the end of the week before the brake parts are here.

We were scheduled to be in Sterlington, Louisiana Sunday morning so I called Pastor Tracy Boyd to discuss the possibilities with him. He suggested beginning Wednesday night and running through Sunday morning. After finding out for sure that the parts will not be here until at least Friday, I called Bro. Tracy Tuesday and we made the change.

I appreciate Pastor Boyd for being so kind. He evangelized for several years so he knows that these things can not be helped. AND the truth is, they can not be helped. It has taken me many years to admit that to myself and let the things I can not control roll off my back and into the hands of God.

So, we have adjusted the schedule and we are rolling on. Meanwhile, we are still struggling with sickness, but we are having an excellent revival. Praise God for His help.

Thank you for reading today.

It Is Still A Pleasure to Serve Him

Way back in the recesses of my mind, thoughts have been swirling around. They were trying to pull together into a cohesive form. There are so many things I wanted to say about our last 17 years on the road and how thankful we are to be serving God and serving His people.

I wanted to tell you about how we got started, how God guided our steps when we did not have a clue and how God provided all we needed, as we needed and usually not a moment before. I wanted to wind up with how much we are looking forward to the next year, our next steps, the next places and the next blessings.

I began writing and suddenly I felt like I had said it all before and pretty recently. I looked back into our vast archives and found, alas, there is nothing new under the sun. There it was in a post I wrote during our first revival of last year, right here in Mississipi, parked in this exact parking spot at Forts Lake on January 10, one year ago.

I could have continued writing. I am sure my thoughts would have congealed into something I could have felt comfortable publishing and I am certainly comfortable saying some of those things over and over. But there was something in last year's post that gave me pause.

It might help if you read it again before I go on. It is surprisingly well written for me. You can add one year to all of the elapsed times that I mention and you will be up to date. I have copied the post a the bottom of this one OR you can follow this link to read it if you like. Come back when you are finished, I have a point to make.

Did you read it? It is perfectly fine if you did not. I am not mad at you.

The whole post is pretty positive as we look over the previous years of travel and evangelism and it is incredibly positive concerning our outlook for the future. However, the last few lines are stood out to me the most.

It has been a wonderful 16 years, blessed by God and guided by His tender hand. Wow! What a ride! I can not wait to see what the future holds. What are we in for next?

More unbelievable open doors? More incredible opportunities to minister in amazing places? More people saved and filled with the Spirit of the Lord? More super friends? Some great laughs? Some bitter tears? I am pretty certain all of the above will be true and most likely some very awesome surprises along the way too. God's work is exciting.

16 more years will take me up to the ripe old age of 68. Crank the bus, Kelly Jo, let's go!

Now let me remind you of the date. That post was published on January 10, fourteen days before we had our first major bus breakdown going into Houston about 9:00 PM on January 24, 2019. It was written four weeks before the bus was repaired and six weeks before the bus broke down again in Citronelle, Alabama.

Here is the question. How did all those positive feelings hold up in the face of a major breakdown, three weeks of downtime, changes in scheduling and many thousands of dollars of repair bills?

Well, the positive feelings did not always hold up well. Feelings good or bad do not often wear well. But the God that provoked the words that faith spoke came shining through like pure Gold!

We felt blindsided. We were disappointed. We were disheartened. We felt bad some of the time. But God was faithful! God preserved us. God protected us. God promoted us. God provided for us. And through it all, God did some perfecting in us.

It turns out that every word from those weeks before was true.

Yes! Yes! Yes! In the midst of all of that turmoil, we had one of the best revivals we have ever had in Sweeny, Texas. God came down near to our family day and night. It was awesome.

We were terribly disappointed that we had to cancel one revival because of the breakdown. But the Pastor called another evangelist who could come a couple of weeks later and they had a tremendous revival. The evangelist even pulled me aside and thanked me for it.

Later in the year, we had three breakdown episodes in the Green Machine and Odie was in a car wreck that could have been tragic. The breakdowns, the anxiety, the repair bills were all unexpected, but God was faithful through it all. We cast the care on Him and God cared for us, loved on us and helped us.

What an amazing God He is and continues to be, even through the challenges of early 2019. I still feel the same. It is a joy to serve God. It is a pleasure to serve His people. Troubles will come, the joy remains. Praise God.

Thank you for reading today.

January 10, 2019A Glance Back And A Forward Focus
I suppose our families might say we have spent our whole lives on the road and they might have a point. Kelly Jo and I started over 34 years ago on the go and we have been going ever since.

However, the beginning of January marks the beginning of our 17th year on the road since leaving the pastorate in Wichita, Kansas. We have 16 years behind us since I stood in the pulpit that day and tearfully told that beautiful congregation of people that we were moving on.

That was a very, very sad day for us. The people of New Horizon Holiness Church had taken a chance on us. We had arrived there nearly four years before as their Pastor. They had loved us, listened to us and loved us some more. There was a huge part of us that hated to leave them even for one moment. Those families had become our families.

Yet, there was something calling to me. I felt it was the voice of God asking me to trust Him enough to leap into the unknown. I knew I would preach a few revivals, but we had no idea where those few revivals would lead us. As a result of that decision, a very difficult decision at the time, we have enjoyed 16 wonderful years on the road.

I was sitting in my little study at the church very early on a Sunday morning early in December 2002. I had been praying over the sermons I had prepared for the services that day. My prayers turned toward our future and asking God to keep us in the center of his will. The stirring I had felt for weeks seemed to indicate to me that God might be leading us to another church.

I could not have been more wrong about that. In one moment it was as if a light was turned on in my mind and I knew exactly what I should do. Resigning my position as Pastor and stepping out into an unknown future suddenly seemed like the perfectly normal thing to do.

I discussed my feelings with my Pastor and my wife that morning. Neither of them squawked too loudly or protested too much about how little sense I was exhibiting. That made me feel a little better, but in the weeks that followed I struggled with my decision terribly. I did not announce my resignation to the church for several weeks so I had time to contemplate the senselessness of my thinking.

Was that the voice of Lord? Am I stark raving mad? Am I fixing to do the stupidest thing I have ever done? Do I want to leave the comfort zone of my little study and the pulpit I love? How will we live? How will we pay our bills? Even, how will we eat?

If you have seen me lately, you already know, we have never one time had to worry about having enough to eat!😏

The agonizing choice, once made and followed through, proved to be 100% correct. I found that exercising faith does not mean we are taking a leap into the unknown. No, it means we are taking a leap into the hands of God! Think about that, friend. If God is directing you and God is catching you, there is zero risk in that!

The first Sunday morning in January my previously announced resignation became effective and I preached my final sermon as Pastor of New Horizon Holiness Church. They had a big send-off for us the night before.

Kelly Jo and Bro. Tim Whistler

That Sunday night and Monday night we kicked off revival for Pastor Rickey Searcy in Oklahoma City because his evangelist was going to be a couple days late. Wednesday we began revival for Pastor James Fellers in Weir, Kansas.

We arrived in Weir that cold, windy January day and the front jacks on my 1984 Hitchhiker fifth wheel broke before I could even get parked and set up. By the time I sold that trailer 15 months later, I could take those jacks apart and replace the shear pins in my sleep, but that day I was overwhelmed. What in the world am I doing?

During one service of that revival, God answered that question and many, many more. God covered, consecrated and confirmed us with the power and demonstration of His Spirit right in the pulpit of that blessed little church. It was a moment our family will never forget! All three of us KNEW this is right!

That Holy Ghost moment was on Friday night January 10, 2003, as we were singing He's An On Time God. I say to you on January 10, 2019, Yes He IS! He May Not Come When You Want Him. He May Not Come On Your Schedule, He May Not Come On My Schedule, But He'll Be There Right On Time. He's An On Time God, Yes He Is!

I had left Wichita with four weeks of revival scheduled in four different churches in four different states spread sporadically over the next ten months. I had nothing else scheduled until Pastor James Fellers as me to begin the year at Weir.

The Weir revival lasted two weeks. We preached revival in Tennessee for two weeks and then went back to Weir for a third awesome week.  Next was Gainesville, Texas for three weeks, Arizona, Alabama, Florida, Kansas, and God only knows where else.

We did not have one free week that year unless we scheduled a free week and that has continued until this day. God opened every door without so much as even a knock from us. God guides and provides. God leads and feeds. God definitely kept His end of the deal, for sure!

We have enjoyed ministering in hundreds of churches in most of the states. We have loved seeing new places and meeting new faces. God has blessed us with more friends than a human being should be allowed to have.

It has been incredible to see people saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost from coast to coast and in other countries. It is amazing to think that there are people in Heaven today that would have been in Hell had we remained in a safe place and not taken a leap of faith. God orchestrated all of that!

We are blessed beyond measure. We have worn out trucks, trailers, clothes, Bibles, sound equipment, instruments and almost everything else we have touched. We have sung and preached until our voices were raw and went right back the next night with voices as strong as ever. God has taken care of every single need.

God has paid every bill, bought every gallon of diesel, every tire, every microphone and everything else we have needed. He has placed thousands of dollars in the hands of Boggs Family Ministries for missions both foreign and domestic. He has allowed us to build churches, help build and fund a school, help buy trucks and trailers and hundreds of gallons of fuel for other evangelists.

We have encountered sickness, disappointments, roadside breakdowns, opposition from without, opposition from within, financial impossibilities, physical restrictions and spiritual mountains. Not one obstacle has proven impossible with God. His grace and power have prevailed each and every time.

We have faced some of the obstacles with faith and assurance and God took care of them like kids play. We have faced other difficulties with fear and fretted ourselves silly only to watch God take care of them too.

What's Happening, Weekend? 1/6/20

Our weekend felt like it began when revival was over at Dryden Rd. Tuesday night after midnight. That means we had a long weekend.😀 Let me warn you right now, most of the weekend report consists of traveling and sickness and not much else.😩

After I finished preaching Tuesday night, I felt some serious sickness coming on. The first symptom was aching in every joint and a few places where I did not know I had joints. By the time we climbed into bed very late Tuesday night, I was feverish.

A fever is never good for me, especially at night. I hallucinated/crazy-dreamed all night long. I would wake up, shake my head and go right back to hallucinating again. Tuesday night it was all about alphabetizing contacts in phones of people that were calling me. Ugh!

Wednesday I was pretty much good for nothing, but we needed to get some work done in order to leave the next day. Steve sent three of my nephews to load the tent bags into the Green Machine and then Steve and Karen helped us get a few other things done. I needed the help.

Thursday morning I had to make a trip to the license bureau in Centerville to get license plates renewed for a few things and to also apply for a Driver's license renewal. After that was completed, Dad helped me do the rest of my work before rolling the bus.

We left sometime after 12:00 PM and drove 100 miles to the Speedco in Pendleton, Kentucky for an oil change in the BoggsMobile. We drove right in and an hour and 45 minutes later the car was hooked up and we were rolling again.

I had thought I felt better early Thursday, but by the time we had driven about 100 more miles, I knew I was done for the day. We only traveled 215 miles in almost 6 hours including downtime for the oil change. We spent the night at the rest area near Horse Cave, Kentucky.

Thursday night was another horrible sick night for me, minus the hallucinations and KJo was struggling too. We made it, but barely.

Thursday we drove about 8 hours in the rain and only traveled 415 miles, stopping for fuel in McCalla, Alabama. At least we did make it into the edge of Mississippi, stopping for the night at the Welcome Center near Toomsuba, Mississippi.

Saturday morning was a welcome sight, because Friday night was another struggle with sickness. We were rolling before 5:00 AM and we were pulling into First Assembly in Richton, Mississippi at 6:30.

Bro. Scott Morris helped me move the new tent pieces from the car into the tent trailer. Who am I kidding? Bro. Scott did most of the work. Praise God for friends.

While Bro. Scott and I were standing there, I felt my temperature rising and I was chilling again. Wow! I laid down on the couch to rest a bit before driving on, but the hallucinations were back. This time I had measured four different types of coughs and I was trying to analyze how long I could sleep before coughing again with each type of cough. You are weird, Davy.

We pulled in to Forts Lake Assembly only a few minutes before noon Saturday to complete 184 miles for the day and 822 miles for the trip.

KJo helped me get the car unhooked, our 50 amp pigtail wired into the panel, a new end put on my long cord and then hook everything up. We were both moving slow, but working together, we got it. She is a good kid and as handy as a pocket on a shirt.

Saturday night was restless again and KJo was very sick Sunday morning. Odie and I walked over to the parsonage for some of Sis. Ruthie Cauley's great cooking Sunday afternoon, but Kelly felt too sick to go. We did take her a plate home though.

Sunday night we all went to Revival and The Lord blessed us with a tremendous service! Praise God for His help for the people of Forts Lake Church and for helping us too. It was a great night.

Our cell phone signal is poor late Sunday night as I am trying to post this. I do not know if I can get pictures up at all.

Yay! I think the pictures are going up. We will try to have many more Friday. That is what is happening. Thank you for joining us.

View Out The Front Window 1/5/20

 First, a little housekeeping.

We have been posting our View Out The Front Window on Sunday since May 18, 2014. In that time we have posted a bunch of pictures of what you would see if you were sitting in the driver's seat when we are parked. It has proved to be a popular feature.

The View Out The Front Window was started a way to post on Sunday without a huge time commitment. Usually, I post links from the posts from the week before and those links are the only thing that takes a little time for me.

Do you use the links on Sunday? I would like to hear from some of you.

This was our view out the front window at Horse Cave Rest Area in Kentucky Thursday night.

This was our view out the front window at the Mississippi Welcome Center on I-20 near Toomsuba Friday.

This is our view out the front window this week at Forst Lake Assembly near Moss Point, Mississippi.

Here are the links from our posts over the last week.

Thank you for taking the time to drop by on Sunday. Have a great Lord's day.

Happy New Year From Odie

Hey Friends,

This is Odie reporting in from the road. The BoggsMobile is in on the move today. We are Mississippi bound. I am excited to be heading to the south and to see many of our great friends. Tomorrow we will begin our first revival of the year. We a looking forward to being with Pastor Tim Cauley and the precious people at Forts Lake Assembly!

I know for several people the last year seemed full of terrible hardships. It was also a year of blessings and answered prayers. Thank God for being faithful to all of us and helping us make it through the year! 2019 is safely in the history books. Congratulations we survived 2019!

Happy New Year! Welcome to a new year and a brand new decade! I was extremely glad to see the fresh page of 2020 arrive!

I am excited to watch God work His plan for my life. What will the coming days hold for me? I have some personal goals and wishes. Most of all I want God to be in control of everything. One of my top prayers for 2020 is to be a vessel that God can use to reach others more than ever before.

Most likely 2020 will have its own surprises, but I hope they are all amazing surprises. Whatever this year holds for us, please remember The Lord is on our side! That is enough to overcome anything! I will leave you with one of my favorite scriptures.

Thank you for reading! I do appreciate many of you that let me know that you keep up with us here. We appreciate your checking on us and praying for us. You are definitely a blessing to me!

Odie
