Thankful For My Heritage

Hey Friends,

Happy Saturday, this is Odie reporting in from Alabama. This has been a wonderful week for us in Wilmer. We love our revivals with Pastor Donnie Williamson and the congregation at Tanner Williams Holiness Church. We are looking forward to a grand time at Homecoming Sunday morning.

Soon it will be time for the BoggsMobile to be Kentucky bound. I am excited to be able to catch some of the camp meeting at Bond next week.

Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs
In May 1919 Godfrey and Bessie Lamb Isaacs were married. That is when our part of the Isaacs family began. Dad wrote an awesome post earlier this year about my great grandparents. Click here to read his post.

Today is a big day for our branch of the Isaacs family in Kentucky. It is reunion day for direct descendants of Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs. They are calling it "First Cousin Reunion".

Many of our family will gather at the family home place. Some of our cousins have worked hard for several months to clean up the place and fix up the house. From the pictures we have seen and the descriptions we have heard, it is looking great!

Our branch of the Isaacs family is huge! We have over 600 direct descendants of my Great Grandparents. I am proud to be in the Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs family.

Thankful For My Heritage
Grandpa Godfrey went to Heaven shortly before I was born. Grandma Bessie was still alive for 2 years of my life. I  have a couple memories of her. I love hearing stories from Dad and others about Grandma and Grandpa. They were precious people!

Grandma and Grandpa had to depend on God just to exist. Their faith was strong and the Lord took care of them. They definitely worked long and hard for everything that they possessed and life definitely was not easy for them!

My Great Grandparents lived a life that was a Christian example. Sometimes I sit back and reflect on their lives. I remind myself that I can overcome my life’s obstacles with prayer and persistence.

I am thankful for the Godly heritage that has been passed down the line to me. I am extremely grateful for the trail they blazed for us to follow.

“Rain Barrel”
My cousins Sonya Isaacs Yeary and Becky Isaacs Bowman wrote a song about our grandparents. It is called “Rain Barrel.“ I like to listen to this song and remember Grandma and Grandpa. They did not complain about life. They just depended on God and survived one day at a time.

Sonya and Becky recorded the song “ Rain Barrel”  on a special project. I could not find a link for it online.  It was available on the Isaacs product table.
Charlotte Ritchie did include “Rain Barrel” on her project titled Beautiful Life. Ben, Sonya, and Becky Isaacs joined Charlotte on this recording and added their amazing background vocals to the song. Click here to listen to Charlotte Ritchie’s version on YouTube. I also listed the lyrics below.

“Rain Barrel”

Verse 1
Grandpa was a farming man
He worked the mules to turn the land
He raised a family on love
And though sometimes they had it rough
Grandpa always had a plan
He kept a barrel by the house
To catch the rain as it came down
Grandma used every day to wash and clean
And she would pray that the well would not run out
They say when you fall on hard times
Don’t hang your head and quit
The beauty in the rain is knowing what to do with it

Chorus
So let it rain let it pour now and then
Let it rain to fill the barrel again
A prayer to make the Heavens cry
So the barrel won’t run dry
Open up the sky and fill it full
Rain barrel

Verse 2
And when it seems life isn’t fair
And I’ve had more than my share
Heaven help me not complain
To see the sunshine in the rain
Not to drown in my despair
Listen here cause I know when I fall on hard times
I can’t hang my head and quit
The beauty in the rain is knowing what to do with it

Chorus
So let it rain let it pour now and then
Let it rain to fill the barrel again
A prayer to make the Heavens cry
So the barrel won’t run dry
Open up the sky and fill it full
Rain barrel

Bridge
A prayer to make the Heavens cry
So the barrel won’t run dry
Open up the sky

Thanks for visiting with me. Have a wonderful weekend.

Odie
