The Weekend Dispatch 7/12/22

Friday morning we finished our trip from California to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hopefully, I can bring you up to date with a Travelogue before the week is out.

We had a busy weekend with three great services, lots of scenery, friends, food and fun. I will tell you upfront that we fell on our faces in failing to get pictures. I apologize profusely, but there is not much I can do to fix it now. Please forgive us.

Our worst failure in picture taking was Friday night and Sunday morning at Soul Harbor Church in Colorado Springs. We loved being back with our friends so much, but we have no photographic evidence. Next time we will have to make them all pose for pictures twice!

We enjoyed two meals and fellowship with the Thomas's and some of the church folks. We also parked there in the bus and we appreciate their hospitality and kindness.

Saturday we met our dear friends, Bro. Larry and Sis. Rosemary Landress for breakfast in the morning and sightseeing Saturday evening. Thankfully, Sis. Rose provided the pictures and saved our hides!

Bro. Larry and Sis. Rose were just arriving in Colorado for a few days and detoured in order to spend some time with us. These dear folks have been our friends for a long time and we loved being with them.

We will have pictures from Saturday evening in another post.

Sunday evening we drove north to Castle Rock to have service with Pastor James McCoy and the folks from Liberty Holiness Church. It was pretty warm Sunday afternoon, but the skies were overcast all through the service. That provided relief from the heat, in addition to adding some wind to the service.

We loved being with them again! We love these folks too.

By 10:00 we were back in the bus and shuffling off to bed. Sundays are pretty taxing on me physically, but I sure enjoy them. Praise God for His help in the services and for touching His people.

Odie sent some pictures from the last several days in her world too.

Thank you for taking a moment to stop in.

You REALLY Need To See This!

Amazing, tremendous, incredible, stunning, unbelievable, stupendous!

I have been looking for St. Peter, Mary or anyone else from the Bible in the clouds, in reflections, condensation on windows and even ham sandwiches for years. People have made millions by spotting saints in their potato chips, tortillas, bananas, pancakes, Cheetos and other places.

Churches have supplemented their budgets by charging admission to see statues weep or bleed. The faithful will line up for blocks to pay their money to see the statue of the virgin Mary cry!

I have looked, but I have seen no saints, no crosses and no virgin Mary. But we did see and photograph an amazing sight in the Rocky Mountains recently. For real!

This is our chance at millions. So do not look if you are not going to send money to see this phenomenal sight and do not download, screenshot or disseminate our great picture if you are not willing to pay like millions for it.

I promise to use the millions to support missions in Africa, buy fuel for other evangelists, encourage churches, feed the hungry, reach the lost, build KJo a home for retirement and remodel the BoggsMobile. Depending on how many millions this picture rakes in, I may even buy a different BoggsMobile!

Are you ready? Here is the ultimate manifestation in the clouds! Here you go!

Zoomed in for a closeup

This totally untouched picture was taken on July 7, 2022. Think about it. The seventh day of the seventh month in the seventh year after 2015 must mean something, especially since it was the seventh picture I had taken on that adventure.

Also, it was taken at 3:31 PM. IF you can not see the significance of that, I can not take the time to explain it to you.

AND dogs rhymes with Boggs. The Virgin Mary could never do that!

There you go. I assure you I am going to keep working while the millions roll in.

Thank you.

Odie‘s Fourth of July Weekend

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking in from Ohio. I hope you have had a fantastic week. I am doing well.

Today I want to tell you about my fourth of July weekend. First, we will rewind to Thursday, the thirtieth of June. It was time for a checkup with my eye doctor.

Going to these checkups is always a little unnerving for me. I did not think there had been drastic changes in my eyes, but you never know what they will find.

It turned out to be a three hour appointment. The checkups are longer when I have to do testing. It is a hurry up and wait situation. Then my doctor had to deal with an emergency. The doctor's staff handled everything well.

Papaw waited with me during the whole appointment. I appreciate Papaw and Mamaw taking me to my appointment!

I am blessed with an eye doctor that is genuinely concerned about me! Last week they did a series of tests to monitor things. Praise God, everything was holding steady! I am thankful for Good news and healthy eyes! Here is a selfie while waiting for Doctor Kopp. I could not see clearly here. My eyes were dilated, which is my least favorite part of visiting the eye doctor.

We had to hurry to Waynesville for a funeral for a dear family friend. Then it was time for lunch!

Thursday night was dedicated to church. Friday, I cleaned my house and did laundry. I do not have pictures of those activities.

Saturday was another eventful day. My friend Stephanie Stansell and I decided to try our hand at making a Keto Apple Pie. She was the head chef and I was her helper. We made our crust on Saturday. The crust turned out fabulous and we had a ton of fun!

Saturday night, I spent a little time with family enjoying fireworks at my cousin's house.

Sunday, it was time to be with my wonderful church family!

After church, it was time to finish our pie. We made time to eat Alcapulco. The food, fun and fellowship with special friends was fabulous!

Making the pie filling.

Ready for the top crust.

This is the pie all ready for the oven.

The yummy finished product.

Bro. Rick and Timmy were our entertainment for the afternoon.

Sunday night service

After church, we had an apple pie bake off. Sis. Bev Blevins is the reigning apple pie champion at DRPC. Sis. Heather Hisle came in at a close second. It was fun to eat pie and fellowship after church.

Sis Stephanie and I made our pie, so we did not have to blow our diets. We were pleased with the way the pie turned out.

Then I finished my weekend by watching the fireworks that my neighbors were setting off.

This was a great weekend full of fun. I hope you enjoyed a peek into my weekend. Thanks for stopping by to visit with me. See you next time.

California Diesel Drama

California Diesel
We do our best to buy as little diesel as we can in California. They are mighty proud of diesel and gasoline in the Golden State. We have seen prices above $7 a gallon during our recent visit.

It has always been more expensive there so we try to fill up right before entering the state and as soon as we leave. There have been a few times it seemed like we exited the state on diesel fumes and prayer!

There is really no sense in taking chances like that. This time I stopped in California and added $300 of diesel to make sure I had enough to get out of the state. For $300, I only pumped 43.5 gallons. Ouch!

This is officially the highest price we have ever paid for a gallon of diesel, $6.88! Wow!

Glad we did not have to buy more, but we needed every drop we bought in California. When I filled up in Nevada, I pumped in 149.7 gallons. IF I had not added fuel in California, the bus would have needed 193 gallons!

The tank is rated to hold 208 gallons, but I have been told it would be difficult to get more than 198 gallons in it with high-speed diesel pumps. If we needed 193 gallons, we would have been on fumes for sure. I shiver to think about it.

In 14 years of owning the BoggsMobile, we have never been so low on fuel that we had to add more than 165 gallons to bring the gauge to full. I would like to keep it that way.

Thank you for stopping in today.

Another Stowaway

Do any of you remember when a kickball attached itself to the BoggsMobile in Independence, Iowa and rode 580 miles to Waynesville, Ohio? You can read the whole story and see pictures HERE.

The BoggsMobile must attract round objects. We had another ball try to secretly hitch a ride in California.

As we were preparing to leave Bloomington, California, I drove the bus to the back entrance of the parking lot. It is the only entrance we can use at the church and we examine it carefully before trying to leave. Sometimes we have to ask people to move cars on the street in order to exit. Often, we hook up the car after we are in the street.

I was driving to the exit so I could look things over and there was a small ball in the parking lot as I was turning toward the exit. I straddled it with the front wheels and thought I missed it with the back wheels too.

I walked behind the bus and the ball was nowhere to be found. KJo saw the whole thing and she could not find the ball either. We both lay on the concrete to look under the bus and could not see it.

Then I stretched out on the ground and watched the wheels as KJo was slowly driving the bus and I found the ball. Can you see it?

It is wedged between the passenger side drive axle wheels. How in the world did I run over the ball so that it was placed perfectly between the dual tires?🤣 I could probably never do it again if I tried, but sure enough, there it was!

I have no idea what would have happened IF the ball remained and we drove down the interstate. Maybe it would have fallen out harmlessly or maybe not.

It came out easily and I rolled it by a tree so the kids could find it.

Crisis narrowly averted. AND we exited the parking lot very easily and did not even have to back up to do it. Two good things in less than five minutes!

Thank you for reading today.

A Word For Wednesday At Ease In Zion

It is time again for A Word For Wednesday. This morning, I am posting A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.
Amos 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion...

I am reading today from The Rudder and The Rock by Charles Conn. He warns us about falling into complacency, peace that kills.

Lord, agitate us! Stir us up! Help us to wake and arise from false peace, peace that will kill us!

Thank you for stopping by today.

Driving Down The Western Slope of the Tehachapi Mountains

There is a video link near the end of this post.

I wrote and posted recently again about Asphalt In Our Blood and Charles Kuralt for this purpose. I wanted to write about beautiful drives that we have been blessed to see in America.

In one of his books, Mr. Kuralt said that Bear Tooth Pass was the most beautiful drive in America. Bear Tooth Pass goes from Red Lodge, Montana into the northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park.

It took me several years, but in 2005, KJo, Odie and I drove our 2004 Chevy truck on the Bear Tooth Pass. We were blown away by the beauty. It is an absolutely amazing drive.

We drove it again in 2006 on our way to Montana and Idaho for revivals and we were blown away again. Wow!

In September 2007, we drove my parents on Bear Tooth Pass in a Chevy van on our way back from revival in Montana. I was so glad to be able to take them there to see Charles Kuralt's choice as the most beautiful drive in the USA.

Yet, there are other drives that KJo and I love as much as we do Bear Tooth Pass. They are all different and beautiful for varied reasons, but I can think of several off the top of my head that we absolutely love.

We love the drive up the Maine coast toward Bar Harbor.

We love Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

We love I-81 through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

We love several drives in and around the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

We love driving down through the Big Thompson River Canyon between Estes Park and Loveland, Colorado.

We love driving on I-90 all the way across Montana.

We love driving in and around Glacier National Park in Montana.

We love driving south of Missoula, Montana on Hwy 93 along the Bitterroot River all the way to the state line.

We love driving west out of Lolo, Montana following Lewis and Clark's path west.

We love driving I-84 along the Columbia River Gorge on the Oregon/Washington state line.

We love driving the gravel road through the giant Redwood trees in Jedidiah Smith State and National Park in northern California.

We love the drive through Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park in central California.

I typed that list off the top of my head as they came to me. I am sure there are many more that we love as much as Bear Tooth Pass. Was Charles Kuralt wrong in his choice? No, he was only more decisive than me and Kelly Jo.😍

We love so many scenic routes and can not narrow the list to only one.

Recently we drove another of our favorite routes and captured some dashcam footage along the way. This video is through the Tehachapi Mountains between Tehachapi and Bakersfield, California.

Normally I speed the video up to shorten the length, but I heard from several of you that you would like to see drives in real-time. That makes the video longer so we will see how it works for you.

I hope you enjoy the beautiful drive! Please pardon the glare, streaks and bugs.
