Vintage View Vednesday 2012 Vacation Part III

In today's Vintage View Vedneday we are continuing with pictures from our vacation in 2012.

We left the Canary Islands and spent a day or two at sea and sailed by the Rock of Gibraltar into the western end of the Mediterranean Sea. It was an awesome sight to see. It is only 7.7 miles from Africa to Europe at the narrowest point.

The red circle is the Strait of Gibraltar and the blue circle is Palma De Mallorca.

We loved Palma de Mallorca which is a city on Majorca Island, part of the Balearic Islands that belongs to Spain. Palma de Mallorca is where KJo and I developed our preferred way to explore and a foreign city when we only have one day.

We start walking through neighborhoods and exploring, finding things off the tourist path and discovering little places to eat and explore. When we are walked out, we catch a tourist bus and get a glimpse of various parts of the city until we find another area we would like to explore.

Palma de Mallorca was incredible! We walked through miles of tiny streets that spun a web that was totally confusing. I have a good sense of direction, but when streets end in brick walls, the correct direction is suddenly wrong. We had a wonderful time wandering around.

We love to visit the little out of the way restaurants that are not expecting tourists from the ships and we look for opportunities to have conversation and possibly minister to someone that we would never in the world meet otherwise. We have had some interesting encounters in that way.

A year before this, I had never heard of Palma de Mallorca, but it is definitely on our list of places to return in the future.

I hope you enjoy Vintage View Vednesday from our vacation in 2012.

It Was a Purty Day!

Monday was a great day to take care of a few things outside. The high temperature was in the mid 70s and it was in the 60s during the morning hours. Yep, it was a purty day!

My main project for the day was changing the oil in the generator in the bus. I had intended to change the oil the week we were at Midway. It was so hot that week and my laziness won the day. I had no idea that I would need the generator the whole next week!

Thanks to hurricane Sally, I turned on the generator mid morning the Monday we left Midway and it ran until 9:30 this Monday morning. That means it was running one hour short of one full week. I am so thankful for a great running generator. It is a blessing to have access to electricity any time we need it.

It is true that we have had some difficulties with the bus lately, but the generator has given us very few problems that last 12++ years. Praise God for all of the good things!

I appreciate all of the nice comments and encouragement as we have navigated through a few BoggsMobile problems in the last several weeks. It is all part of owning and operating anything mechanical and we have learned to roll with the punches.

Several folks have commented that they would love to see us get a new or new to us bus with fewer problems due to age and mileage. A newer bus would be nice, but we have no desire to finance something else and start all over buying another bus. At some point in the distant future, we will need to slow down and that would be impossible with a huge payment hanging over our heads.

I recently looked up Prevost buses for sale at a bus site I frequent. I looked at 12-13 year old buses, because that is how old the BoggsMobile was when we purchased it. They ranged from $500,000 to $700,000 each. $500,000 would be $3500 a month for 20 years or $5500 a month for 10 years. Seriously, No thank you.

The BoggsMobile is 25+ years old now and definitely has several areas that need attention. But it is still running strong and we praise God for that every single day. It may never run again, but I fully expect it to run until Jesus comes or I am too old to drive it!

I wired into the electric panel here at Lusk church and turned off the generator Monday morning. Within a few minutes, the oil was drained and I was ready to change the filter, clean things up and add oil. I use synthetic in the generator so that I can go a little extra time between changes.

This time I changed the air filter as well. It was bout time to change the fuel filter too, but that is difficult to do without access to clean diesel to fill the new filter. I will change that when I get back to the barn.

All the other things I did to the bus were piddly things, but the cool weather made it all pleasant. I could accept every day like that weather-wise.

When all that was completed, KJo and I rolled in the sound equipment and set it up in the church. Since we were just here the morning before, our saved settings on the mixer worked perfectly and soundcheck was finished in short order.

The beautiful service Monday night capped a near perfect day. I am praising God that He met with His people and helped us all. Hallelujah!

Thank you for joining us today.

What's Up Weekend? 9/21/2020

The weekend really goes all the way back to Monday when we left St. Stephens, Alabama with intentions of saturating the predicted path of hurricane Sally with our absence. That is exactly what we did.

Originally it looked like we would have to go into central Louisiana on I-20, but the path went further and further east. We landed at a truck stop just east of Jackson, Mississippi and that ended up being plenty far enough.

We would not have minded spending a few days in an RV Park, but that is something that is severely lacking in central Mississippi. The rest areas we stayed in were perfect for the occasion. We stayed three nights in one rest area, with permission, and the armed security was in a booth looking directly at our bus. Not a bad deal at all.

If we could have found a campground, it is doubtful we could have stayed for less than $40 per night. In strictly fuel costs, we can run the generator for five days and nights for $100 at today's diesel prices. That is not bad at all.

We turned the generator on last Monday morning and it is still running this morning, seven days later. We are thankful for a great running generator.

Going to church Wednesday night while having supper.

Saturday afternoon we pulled into Lusk Assembly. We were there for service Sunday morning and we will be there tonight through Wednesday by God's grace.

I was up early Sunday to finish preparing for service and received this gift from the National Hurricane Center.

Yep, another one!

We had a really good first service Sunday morning at Lusk Assembly. It was our first visit to Lusk and we are looking forward to three more super great services.

When the Sunday morning was concluded we loaded out the sound equipment, cranked the bus and drove to Meridian, Mississippi for service Sunday night at Trinity Assembly.

It was 57 miles through the country and it took it about an hour and 20 minutes to get there in the bus. Much to Odie's dismay Karen Peck was singing about a mile from Lusk Assembly Sunday night and we think we met their bus along the route.

This was also our first visit to Trinity in Meridian and we enjoyed it very much. We have known Pastor Morris and his wife for several years and it was wonderful to finally visit the church they have been pastoring for a few years.

After church Sunday night, we reversed the process and headed back toward Lusk Assembly. By 9:45 PM we were pulling into the church at Lusk and relaxing after a long day. Praise God for His help in both services and all day long.

Thank you for stopping in today.

View Out The Front Window 9/20/2020

James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Trials put religion, and all the graces of which it is composed to proof; the man that stands in such trials gives proof that his religion is sound, and the evidence afforded to his own mind induces him to take courage, bear patiently, and persevere.
Adam Clarke

This was our view out the front window of the BoggsMobile part of the week.

This was our view out the front window the rest of the week.

This is our view out the front window this morning near Gilbertown, Alabama at Lusk Assembly.

Thank you for stopping by Mile Markers today.
