Our Weekend In The Rearview Mirror

Even though we had planned for many months to be at Grace Fellowship with Pastor Isaacs and his great people in Elba, Alabama this weekend, it was not to be. It seems the bus conspired against us and we remain in Texas for another day or two. Of course, Texas is not a bad place to be stuck, especially when we are having great services!

I appreciate Pastor Jon Isaacs and his church understanding the position we are in here in Houston. It is tough knowing that I caused them to miss revival, but they are so gracious. I will do my best to make it up to them IF possible.

It really was a great weekend at Full Gospel Lighthouse in Sweeny, Texas. We sure appreciate Bro. Lamb inviting us to stay a few more nights and we have enjoyed the blessings of the Lord and the fellowship with the saints. The revival continued Friday, Saturday and both services Sunday. We even had church right through the Super Bowl and did not even have a big screen set up to watch it. Hallelujah!

I spent most of the day Friday at Prevost Houston and there was quite a bit accomplished. I will try to have a full report once we have a few hundred miles under our wheels, but there was an interesting development. Did you see the pictures yesterday?

Detroit 60 Series

I was not driving to Houston Saturday, so it kind of felt like I was cheating all day. I had more time to prepare for preaching, time with my family, a great lunch with the Pastor and some of his family and a wonderful service Saturday night. Yeah, it was a pretty good day.

Sunday was a great day too. We had two good services to close out the extended revival and a wonderful meal and fellowship Sunday at lunch. May God bless Pastor Larry Lamb and all of his great folks for treating us so well.

I was up and on the road early Monday morning. I was sitting in the parking lot at Prevost Houston by 6:30. It is hard to believe, but the traffic was already a zoo by that time going around Houston. The roads were wet and there was a heavy pea soup fog that became even worse after I came through it.

They slid the engine back into the BoggsMobile Monday. They have a few things to button up and then the guy from Mid Coast will program the new fuel injectors into the computer and we should be ready for a test drive. Pray, saints, pray.

There was an interesting development with the bus on Friday.

The mechanic had just removed the valve cover and he was shining his light down in amongst the valves. I was standing on the opposite side of the engine when I heard him say excitedly, "Oh No! Look at that!" Trust me, those are not the words you want to hear at that moment.

Detroit 60 Series

What was it? It was an oil-soaked shop towel tucked between valves 3 and 4.

Here it is out of the engine.

I thought some of the guys in the shop were going to have a baby heart attack when they saw it, which is pretty cool since the guy who found it and I were already having matching baby heart attacks.

Prevost Houston Mid Coast Diesel

We have owned the BoggsMobile since March 2008. I have driven it 170,000 miles. It had about 180,000 miles from two previous owners. The first owner kept meticulous records including transcribed phone conversations with Prevost and Featherlite. The second owner left behind great maintenance records as well. There is NO mention of this engine ever being opened.

That leaves me to believe that shop towel has been in there since January 1995, 24 years and 350,266 miles.

I shudder to think about what could have happened during any one of those miles. If you look closely, you can see the shop towel has a few ripped places. It looks like the constant motion of the valves was leaving the mark. It could have been inching closer to a catastrophic failure. My head has been spinning since that towel was found Friday.

Makes me wish I was on social media and knew how to use it. I would put these pictures on Detroit's Twitter or Instagram. #SurgicalSpongeLeftInTheBody

In the grand scheme of things, I guess a shop towel riding inside my bus engine is a minor bump in the road, but it could only happen to me.

There is a medical term for this. Perhaps the BoggsMobile could make it into a medical journal as being the first Detroit 60 Series to have Gossypiboma or Retained Foreign Object (RFO).

Did You See Deidre And Ben?

Hey Friends,

This is Odie reporting it from Sweeny, Texas. I had no idea where I would be reporting from at the time that I first wrote this post, but here we are.

When I prepared my blog for last Saturday I did not have a clue that the BoggsMobile would be hospitalized last week! I do thank God for protecting us during our scary time on the side of the interstate last Friday! He is so good to us! You can read more about that night here in Monday’s post and more about what is going on HERE.

Thankfully the Green Machine carried us safely on to Sweeny, Texas and we were able to have revival as scheduled. It is great to be with Pastor Larry Lamb. We enjoy visiting with our family and friends at Lighthouse Full Gospel. I appreciate them providing us with a place to stay while the bus was in the shop. They have went out of their way to help us this week! 

We did have to cancel or postpone our revival in Elba, Alabama. I hate that so back. We love being with Bro. Jon Isaacs, his sweet family and his church. Maybe we can get by there later this spring.

Deidre and Ben

You probably spotted some familiar faces in our Revival In Pictures post at House of Prayer. It was good to have several dear friends visit us during that meeting in Gainesville, Texas. It was extra special to see some very important family too!

My cousin Deidre and her husband Ben Shoemaker now live in Sherman, Texas. They are working as Youth Pastors at First Assembly. Gainesville, Texas is only 30 minutes from them and I was hoping we could catch up while we were close. I am so glad that it actually turned out that we were able to see them 3 times.

Deidre and I are super close and any time that I get to be with my DeeDee is awesome! Several summers Deidre traveled with us and I will forever cherish those times that I spent with her. We are happy for any time along the way that we can add new memories and adventures on the road.  

Deidre is now working with her husband in ministry and I am so proud of them. Ben has fit well into our family too. We gladly claim him in our Boggs clan. 

You know I love you too, Ben!! 😀 Thanks for smiling for a picture. I know that your Mama will be happy as well!

Deidre and Ben are embarking on a new adventure together. In a couple months a son will be joining their family! I am super excited for Charlie’s arrival! I would appreciate it if you could keep Deidre, Ben and Charlie in your prayers. We are anxious to meet this little guy and spoil him!

I was so happy to see Deidre and Ben once again. Who knows when or where that we will catch them next time? Thank you, Deidre and Ben, for sacrificing your free time to come see us. I love you!
