Weekend Write Up 7/12/21

I need to take you all the way back to Thursday evening to properly capture the weekend. I was supposed to preach at our home church and to take care of the service in our Pastor's absence. I was running a bit late as I began to get cleaned up.

I walked out of the barn on my way to get ready in the bus and as I walked by where the power cord connects to the 50 amp box, I straightened the cord with my foot and hand. In a moment, KJo told me that one side of the electricity was off in the bus.

For those that do not know, a 50 amp RV plug has four wires. Two 50 amp "hot" wires, a ground and a neutral. Here is a diagram.

One side of the electricity was completely gone. I can not walk away from the bus and leave it in that situation, so my priorities changed in a hurry, because I needed to solve the problem and still get to church on time.

I had KJo crank the generator inside and I unplugged the cord to find this.

Do you see the slot on the left? It has been hot. I took it apart to be sure and it was confirmed.

I did not have time to run to Home Depot to fetch a new box, so I had two options. I could leave the generator running while we were gone to church or I could run the cord to the second 50 amp receptacle in the barn.

Running the cord inside would mean the barn door could not be fastened and locked, but we pulled the Green Machine in front of the door and called it good.

However, it needed to be fixed before we left for the Boggs Reunion in Kentucky Friday morning. I could not leave the barn unlocked two days and I did not want the generator running two days either. Ugh!

First thing Friday morning I was off to Home Depot to find them fresh out of what I needed. I purchased a bare 50 amp plug instead and installed it in the old box. I had to drill some holes and rig it up, but it only took a few minutes.

This is what the old one looked like once I had it out and apart.

That put us back on schedule and we pulled out of the Lazy OD Ranch about 10:30. Our first stop was for a bag of ice, but the second stop was much more exciting. We had skipped breakfast in our hurry, but we knew that lunch would make up for it.

I had discovered a City BBQ on our route in Alexandria, Kentucky! Yay!

A couple of hours later, we pulled into the Lodge at Carter Caves State Park near Olive Hill, Kentucky. Dad and Mom arrived only a few moments after us and other family members came in all evening.

After a great meal in the Lodge restaurant, we spent a couple hours visiting with family at the campground, pickin', grinnin' and singing.

The official Boggs Reunion was Saturday. I will have more about that later.

We left Carter Caves after 3:00 and arrived home about 6:15 or so. KJo went right to mowing.

Sunday was a full day of church at Dryden Rd. with a trip home and a nap in the afternoon thrown in for good measure. It was a super great day. I enjoyed preaching Sunday morning and enjoyed listening to Bro. Bennie Sunday night.

That wraps up the weekend. Thank you for stopping by.

Davy
