Vintage View Vednesday Ohio 1999

Last Wednesday we finished up the vintage pictures from our accidental vacation in 2005. The original journey was treeeemendous and I enjoyed it all again going through the pictures all these years later. That was a great spontaneous trip. I really hope you enjoyed the pictures.

I told my girls after I put up the last post from that time, that I did not know what in the world I would post after all of that. How do you top Yellowstone, Glacier, the Metzger's, Washington, Oregon, the Redwoods, California coast and the Burris family? There is no way it can be done. You just have to move on, right?

I was looking through pictures and found some from nearly 20 years ago that might be of interest. They sure interested me. We moved to Wichita in order to Pastor New Horizon Holiness Church in 1999.

We drove back and forth on weekends for a few weeks until we could get our house up for sale and put a few things in order. When we moved, a bunch of guys from Dryden Rd came to help us load our truck. I found a couple of pictures from the day we moved out of our house in West Carrolton, Ohio, but none of the actual moving.

Here is Odie sitting on the front porch, ready to go.

We put the house up for sale before we moved, but it took several months and a realtor change to sell it. We were in Ohio for revival at Dodds in October of 1999 and we took a few pictures of the empty house. I had forgotten that we had these.

We had just remodeled the kitchen. We painted the cabinets, put on new cabinet doors, new counters and new tile floor.

This was our music room off of the kitchen at the back of the garage. It was probably designed as a dining room, but we filled it with instruments and songs. A few hit songs were written in this room.😀

A glimpse of Kelly Jo's Carribean Blue utility room and half bath.

We also had some pictures from the same visit home of my Dad and Mom's place and the church at Dodd's in the same folder.

Boy Howdy! Those pictures bring back some memories!

Thank you for joining with us today.

Can We All Just Get Along?

With all of the differences of opinion in America, I wish we could genuinely try to understand one another at a level deeper than we have been lately. We as Americans are too quick to condemn and then move directly into hate because someone thinks differently than we do.

From reading reports in the press, this probably extends way beyond Americans, but Americans are the people I rub shoulders with every day. I think we could all stand to take a deep breath and chill a bit.

Sometimes I want to say to the radio or the news page, Can we all just get along? Why do we have to pick unnecessary fights? Why is our "you offend me" meter set on such a hair trigger? Is it healthy to be so continually outraged at every little thing and every little issue?

We as Christians should lead the charge in loving and understanding, not in hating and dividing. There are areas of disagreement that we as Christians will not, must not compromise. Some things are absolute. However, we must not foster hate or lash out in anger, even when we stand unequivocally on the truth of the Bible.

We Really need to be slow to throw verbal firey darts when our disagreements are not based on the Bible or our Christian worldview, but are based more on our personal preferences, how we were raised or what part of the nation we live in. Do we realize it is possible to have areas of strong disagreement that have nothing to do with morality or Biblical values?

I am a very firm believer that there are several issues and topics where we must not bend and we must not bow. There are some hills worth dying on. All those hills better be Biblically based. Personal preferences are not worth losing friends, losing limbs or even losing sleep over.

Many, many, many issues we as Americans are fighting over and are outraged over are not really eternally important. We can agree to disagree agreeably and still be friends. Does that make sense?

If that does not make sense and you think I am a freak of nature and you are even now drawing a smaller circle that excludes me, that is OK. I am very busy drawing a bigger circle that takes you and your circle in. You are welcome to be my friend and brother without believing every little thing like me and thinking every little thought like me.

I will concede that it seems as if the conservative Christians are constantly having to compromise, surrender, capitulate and accept the views of everyone else. That does not seem to be a two-way street at all.

Those from a secular mindsight, a liberal viewpoint and an amoral position demand that their every little whim is to be welcomed as mandatory principles that must be lived by. Much of the time they give no consideration to other views and opinions.

I have a question about that. How can people that say they believe that truth is fluid and that there is no absolute truth, demand adherence to whatever they declare as their personal truth at the moment? If there is no truth, how can you throw your version of the truth at me?

I do believe in absolutes. I believe in firm boundaries and guidelines for living that fit every human. I am willing to be governed by truth, even to my own hurt. The truth that I believe in is so absolute that it governs me whether I believe it or not.

I believe the Bible is the Word of God. I believe it is true. I believe I can trust the truth of God's Word more than I can trust the opinion of any other person. I can trust God's Word more than I trust my own understanding.

That is my foundational truth. Truth is not affected by the way I feel. Truth is not changed by public opinion or the wild swing of popular culture. Truth cannot be voided by a million tweets, 10 million Instagram followers, a judicial ruling, presidential order or a truckload of new laws.

What I must remember is that the truth of God's Word also teaches me how to respond to others that reject the truth. If they persecute me, hate on me or despitefully use me, the truth guides my response.

If you reject the Bible, reject the very idea of unchanging truth, reject the notion that anyone could ever know what is best for any other human based on a code of ethics and instruction for living that I believe, that is OK.

I happen to think you are wrong. I happen to think your thinking is dangerous for your future, for society at large and for your children. I think you should reconsider and listen to sound reasoning.

However, the very truth that I love and that you reject, teaches me to love you, respect you and to treat you with kindness, courtesy and consideration,

I better make sure I am doing that before I declare that you are unreachable, unteachable and unredeemable. Are those real places that people can reach? According to God's Word, absolutely. But I think that line is a whole lot farther down the road for people than we sometimes proclaim it to be.

I am determined to keep loving, keep reaching, keep teaching and do my best to hold the door of opportunity open for everyone I can. Anyone can quickly condemn a person because they disagree, but a Christian should keep right on being a Christian even while disagreeing.

What do you think?

Thank you for reading today.

Our Weekend In The Rearview Mirror

Odie has a few pictures left over from Friday night at Calvary. The last night of revival was planned as a Gospel singing and that is exactly what we did, with preaching thrown in all the way through it. We enjoyed the night. We appreciate Pastor David Webb and His son Geron from Hodgenville, Kentucky playing bass and drums for us Friday night.

The first two pictures are courtesy of Taylor Webb.

We had great fellowship with friends after church that had come from several different places. We did not load our sound stuff in the bus because it was raining cats and dogs after church. I caught a small break in the rain Saturday morning and loaded it up then.

I cranked the bus about 10:00, unhooked the utilities and put away the boards we sometimes use to get level and then KJ backed out. The church has a nice wide entrance/exit on their parking lot, but the road is narrow. I have had trouble getting out without getting a tire and thus the bus in the ditch in times past. The last time I was here, I backed out and I remembered that this time.

Note to self: I directed KJ to the western edge of the west most exit and turned her sharp into the road as soon as the back wheels were clear of the ditch. We were able to do it with a three-point turn. If we hit that point in the future with the front end of the bus a little more toward the church, we Might be able to eliminate the third point.

Once we were out of the parking lot, Kelly Jo followed me a mile or so to the Pilot truck stop near the interstate and we hooked the Green Machine to the bus. After that was only a matter of pulling onto the interstate and holding onto the wheel.

We exited the interstate at Seymour, Indiana. We detoured one block off of 50 at Seymour to take a look at a possible tent revival location for the future. Then we followed 50 west toward Bedford and then made our way to the church at Tunnel Hill.

Pastor Dallas and Sis. Luvenia Lakes were waiting on us at the church when we pulled in about 2:00 PM. It was great to see our old friends and we visited a few hours counting a nice meal later in the evening.

Saturday night my brother Steve and his wife Karen arrived to be with us for Easter. It was super duper great to have them here all day!

The Easter Services were great. Praise God for his help for us and for the saints at Tunnel Hill Pentecostal Church. Revival runs through Thursday night, by God's grace. If you are in this area, please come be with us if you can.

Thank you for joining us today.

He Wouldn't Stay Dead 2019

Have you ever considered the historical fact that Jesus Christ, the son of God, rose from the dead three days after He was crucified? It is a fact that changed the world and still changes lives today. Praise God that He conquered death, hell and the grave!

Here is my favorite poem.

He Wouldn’t Stay Dead
by: Willard G. Thomas

They laid His body in Joseph’s new tomb
And filled His disciples with sorrow and gloom
They did not remember what He had said
That He would die, but He wouldn’t stay dead

Mary came at the break of day
And found the stone was rolled away
She saw an angel and in terror fled
And told His disciples that He didn’t stay dead.

In that cold dark tomb He would not stay
He conquered death and walked away
And now that old grave has lost its fear and dread
He lives again! He wouldn’t stay dead

Full atonement and pardon were made
And forever the sin debt was marked fully paid
The price was His blood as it flowed crimson red
And I’m thankful today that He didn’t stay dead!

Let’s go to our churches and cry aloud
Let’s go to the marketplace and talk to the crowd
Let’s go to the mission fields that lie up ahead
And tell the whole world that He didn’t stay dead!

Because if Jesus Christ had only died
Then the gulf between us and God would still be wide
But thank God He did what He said
He got up out of the ground, He couldn’t stay dead!

You’re The One I’m Dying For

Hey Friends,

Happy Easter weekend. This Odie reporting in from the road. This week was wonderful in Brooks, Kentucky. We enjoyed being with Pastor Philip Webb and the congregation at Calvary Holiness. It was so great to see several friends from the area this week too.

Today the BoggsMobile is pointed toward Owensburg, Indiana. We will be starting revival tomorrow at Tunnel Hill through Thursday night. I am anticipating a good revival the week ahead with Pastor Dallas Lakes and our friends in Indiana

The One I’m Dying For

This is a great holiday weekend that we look forward to very much. Easter is not about the bunnies, candy, eggs or even new clothes. For the Christian, it is a time that we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus selflessly gave His life to redeem us! He became a willing sacrifice for our sins. Now we can have eternal life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thank God that Jesus died for our sins and on the third day He arose from the grave. Praise God, my Savior is alive!

Earlier this week I read the story in the Bible about Barabbas. Barabbas was a murderer and he was sentenced to die. On the day that Jesus was on trial, Pilate the Governor of the people offered to release a prisoner to the people. The book of Mark calls Barabbas a "notable prisoner”. The people overwhelmingly cried to release Barabbas and crucify Jesus.

I have wondered about Barabbas. Did he become a believer and a recipient of Grace? Jesus died for all, including murders like Barabbas and sinners like me and like you. Because of the sacrifice of Christ, grace and redemption from sin are still available today. Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord can and will be saved.

Are you are searching for peace in your life today? Your search can end at Calvary because grace is available for you this very moment. You are the reason Jesus gave His life on the cross.

I was reminded this week of a phenomenal song, You're The One I'm Dying For. It was recorded by the Isaacs on their Big Sky project. The song was penned by my cousins Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Becky Isaacs Bowman and their friend Ronnie Bowman. The lyrics of this incredible song brings the story of Barabbas to life. I wanted to share it with you here.

Below I have posted song lyrics. Click here for a link to a YouTube video. This specific video was recorded in Norway several years ago.

You can click here for the song on Apple Music.

You’re The One I’m Dying For
Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Becky Isaacs Bowman and Ronnie Bowman

Outside I hear them talking
Could it be it's me they're mocking
An eye for an eye is all that matters anymore
Pilate put me in this prison
And I deserve what I've been given
A life for a life and that's the one I'm dying for

I caught the eye of a man who was beaten
I saw the truth even I believed him
Now I can tell from my cell, who they're wantin' more I hear them cry, "Release Barabbas!"
In disbelief I turned to Jesus
He looked at me and
He said go free you're the one I'm dying for

For the one who is hurting
And the one who has done wrong
For the one who needs healing
And feels like hope is gone
For the weary who can't carry his cross anymore You're the one, You're the one I'm dying for

For the one with all the questions
And the one who just believes
For the one who casts the first stone
And the one down on her knees
For the weary who can't carry his cross anymore You're the one You're the one You're the one
You're the one I'm dying for

Thanks for visiting with me today. I pray that you have a marvelous weekend.
