Bethany Revival Center in Pictures

Praise God for a great revival at Bethany Revival Center in Wichita, Kansas. This week has been a flurry of activity, great food, super fellowship and wonderful services. It is hard to believe it is over so quick. We sure do love these folks and we are already looking forward to coming back next year by His grace.

I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking in this post.

Catching a Break or Two!

I know it seems like life is always throwing you a curve and kicking you in the face. We have days and even weeks like that too. In times like that you wake up every morning hoping to catch a break.
Some days you have to look pretty hard for bright spots. We know that God is in control but its nice to see a little evidence in your everyday life.

We definitely want to be thankful in every thing, even difficult things, but we want a chance to praise Him for some good things too, right?

Two nice things happened to us this week. Nothing breathtaking. But neat little things that cause us to be thankful.

You remember the broken windshield? In the interest of lower premiums I pay a higher deductable for glass replacement. With all the glass on the BoggsMobile it helps.

I have now bought two windshields out of pocket this year so I may need to reconsider that thinking.
I wanted to replace the one the Green Machine the first full day we were in Wichita. I really did not want to drive 400 miles round trip to Claremore, Oklahoma with that break right in my line of sight.

I could not get an appointment so I put it off until this week and drove to Oklahoma and back Thursday with the windshield cracked.

On the way to Tulsa a rock flew up and put a brand new chip in my already damaged windshield. IF my plan had worked out then that new chip would have been in my brand new glass.

That chip did not bother me at all since the windshield was going to be replaced any way. Since it has happened exactly opposite of that on other occasions I am thankful to catch a break this time. (pun intended)
The second nice thing that happened this week also involves the Green Machine.

The long green piece of trim above the license plate has the door handle to the lift gate on the bottom side of it. Toyota calls it the lift gate garnish.

It came loose several weeks ago and closer inspection revealed one side was broken. We fastened it with Velcro and tried to be very careful each time we opened and closed it.

We load Odie's wheel chair in the back so the garnish was on the edge of falling off every time we drove the Green Machine.

It needed to be replaced soon.

When we received mail from home Saturday there was a notice from Toyota. It was a "Warranty Enhancement" notice specifically for that very problem. It did not even require me to be the first owner.

Toyota realized it was a poorly designed piece and completely covered the cost of a replacement on my 2006 Scion Xb. That is a SEVEN year old car.

How cool is that? A "Warranty Enhancement" notice to repair our exact problem on a seven year old car. I do not even know how Toyota knew I owned the car. I have bought a couple of parts from the Toyota dealer but nothing that required me giving them the VIN.

Thank you Jesus.

Sedgwick County Jail

This is our 11th year in a row preaching revival at Bethany Revival Center and my 7th year preaching at the Sedgwick County Jail while we are here in revival. Preaching in the jail is always one of the highlights of our visit to Wichita.

Several of the church members here have volunteered at the county jail through the years. They really have a heart to minister to the inmates and God has used them to affect many lives. Bro. Charles Mitchell conducts some of the weekly chapel services and is faithful to invite me to take part.

This year I was invited to preach Tuesday morning and this morning. (Thursday) We had great services both days. The crowd was smaller than usual Tuesday but God really ministered in the altar and that is what matters any way.

Bro. Larry Landress is here today and Bro. Charles was able to get him cleared to go in with us. Bro. Larry has been ministering in jails and prisons for at least 30 years and he was a tremendous addition and blessing to the service today.

God used him mightily to preach to the inmates. As he told the testimony of the total transformation of a death row inmate several years ago we were literally on the edge of our seats. He definitely had everybody's attention.

He turned the service to me and the obvious thing to do was get those men in the altar as soon as possible. God moved in the lives of those men. The first man in the altar was dropping the biggest tears I have ever seen on the altar as soon as he knelt. Praise God for His help and grace.

Bro. and Sis. Landress plan to be with us in church tonight and we are looking forward to see what the Lord is going to do in the service. Each night has been good. Thank you for praying for us. God bless you all.

Now You See It, Now You Don't

Tuesday morning I was scheduled to preach at the Sedgwick County Jail at 9:30. I dropped the Green machine at The Windshield Shop at 8:00. Bro. DiZazzo picked me up and we met Bro. Charles Mitchell at the Jail.

We had a great service but I will probably tell you more about that later in the week.  I love preaching at this jail.

See the crack in the windshield?

See it now?

It was finished and ready to drive when Bro. DiZazzo dropped me off about 11:00 and it looks real good.

After it rained yesterday afternoon I could see what looked like a scratch on the new windshield but I will look closer in the light this morning.

A Special Guest

We had a big surprise and super special treat Sunday night. After we had went back to the BoggsMobile Sis. DiZazzo text me to let me know she needed to deliver a package before we went to bed.
We waited a few minutes and she knocked on the door. She said the package was heavy and she needed our help to carry it in.
We went outside and found our special package. The "package" was our dear friend from Boston, Esther!

We met Esther here in Wichita several years  ago and she usually comes to revival every year. This year it did not look like she would be able to come.
She was able to shake free from her commitments and catch a flight Sunday evening. She surprised every one including the DiZazzo's!
What a wonderful bonus for our visit to Wichita. Esther is a sweet and thoughtful lady and we love her very much. She is very dear to our family.
Revival is going good and we are expecting greater things in the days ahead. Please pray for us.

Wonderful Wichita Weekend

We had a great weekend in Wichita. Saturday the girls did laundry and I tried to prepare for preaching on Sunday. We had a super lunch with Bro. and Sis. DiZazzo and some of the church folks Saturday and that evening Kelly Jo and I grabbed some burritos and drove down to the river.

It was a beautiful night. The river is very high because of all the rain they have been receiving here. The flood control they call the "Big Ditch" is full and flowing fast. All of that is very unusual for Wichita in August.

I was trying to think of a pretty place to sit in the car and had a hard time thinking of a place. We lived here for nearly four years and I could not think of a nice location for a car picnic. I realized that in all the time we lived in Wichita I could not remember taking my girls some where, sitting in the car and enjoying the view and good family time.

We might have done it once or twice but I can not recall it. That means it is certainly something we did not do often, if at all. I stayed way too busy those years engaged in the "work" of the ministry and not enough time with my family. It is something I have repented of before but I did some more repenting Saturday.

The church I pastored was not a demanding church at all. I just did not have my priorities straight. It is a common trap for anybody that loves their work or feels defined by what they do. I loved pastoring that church and spent a lot of time trying to be the best preacher I could be. I was having the time of my life but I spent way too much time in my little study.

Kelly Jo and Odie did not complain one time while we lived in Wichita but they probably should have. I deserved it. They are the most important people in this world to me. I have tried for several years to show them how valuable they are. I am going to try some more!

We started revival yesterday. Both Sunday services were very good. The crowds were good and the response in the altar service was very good too. We are looking forward to some more great services.

I did not take very many pictures Sunday but I am sure I will have opportunity to take more this week.

Now Order Our New CD Online - He Came - The Gospel of Christmas

He Came - The Gospel of Christmas

Thanks to Dr. J, Bro. David Johnston of DRJ Website Designs, you can now order our new CD from our website. I sincerely hope you will order several hundred copies for you and your closest friends. You better hurry because these things are flying off the shelves faster than Christmas snow cones in Alaska.

We are getting good reports on the CD and we hope it will be a blessing to all that hear it. I was very hesitant to put the sermon track on the project but so far I have had nothing but positive feedback. The reason for that may be politeness but real feelings have a way of rising to the surface. I will know more about the quality of that decision as time rocks on.

I really want the message of the Gospel to be heard. We have already given a bunch of these CDs away as a witnessing tool and I have plans to strategically give many more away. Of course the more we sell the more we can give away. Funny how it works that way.

Check out sample tracks HERE.

Youth Service in Wichita, Kansas

It is good to be back with our friends at Bethany Revival Center in Wichita, Kansas. This is the 11th year in a row that Bro. DiZazzo has invited us for revival. We are always excited to come back but they must be gluttons for punishment!

We first visited here way back in the last century. It was in 1999 shortly after we moved to Wichita to pastor at New Horizon. We were hungry for fellowship so we started looking for conservative pentecostal churches. I believe that Bethany Revival Center was the first church we visited.

Bro. and Sis. DiZazzo and their church were very kind to us that night and that started friendships that continue until this day. I am sure it was not completely comfortable walking into a new church that night. We did not know one person. We probably felt like everybody in the building was looking at us like we each had two heads!

But it was worth it! They received us warmly and all these years later we have friends that we can not imagine doing without. It makes me want to go out and be nice to somebody for the fun of it!

Bethany was re-launching their monthly youth service Friday night. I was thrilled to be ask to be a part of it. It was a great service. I really enjoyed preaching to the young people. Something happened that I do not think has ever happened to me in the USA. I am always asking for 100% participation in the altar service and last night I got it!

Yes sir! 100% of those young people came down to the altar and prayed. It was wonderful. Praise God for it! It was not a big crowd but it was a 100% crowd. I can not ask for more than that!

Tomorrow we begin revival. I am excited to see what the Lord is going to do in these services! Please pray for us.

Quick Trip To Oklahoma

Even though it has been raining cats and dogs since we have been in Wichita the BoggsMobile had to be washed. It had accumulated over 2000 miles of road grime and I could stand it no longer.

So washing the bus was the first thing on the adgenda Thursday morning. That feels a lot better.

Kelly Jo and I had burritos from another local place for lunch. We had the Carne Asada Burrito and it was pretty good. It's not Humberto's in Phoenix but that is a pretty high standard.

We all jumped in the car and headed for Claremore, Oklahoma for the evening. We had not seen the Millikin's since Bro. Marty has been having health problems so we really wanted to visit with them.

Sis. Millikin has been diagnosed with cancer as well and she began her treatments Wednesday. Bro. Millikin has been having eye surgeries so they all need God to help them.

After visiting and having prayer we went with Bro. Marty, Bro. Jimmy and Sis. Shauna to Los Cabos for supper. It was very good as usual but visiting with our dear friends was even better.

Please continue to pray for the Millikin family. We know God is able to help them. We believe that He will do it.

After supper we started back to the bus and arrived about midnight. Thank God for a good day.

New Horizon Holiness Church

Yesterday was spent taking care of errands and business but lunch was not neglected. We ate at a little place right across the street from Bethany Revival Center.

It is a buffet of pretty authentic Mexican food called Los Reyes and it was pretty good. It was by far the best local Mexican food we have ever had in Wichita.

And it is right across the street from the church!

Last night we went to church at New Horizon Holiness and had a wonderful time. Pastor Marlin Rogers insisted that I preach so I did the best I could.

I am not sure how it sounded but I felt great trying. That's not the best way to judge preaching though. Lol But I really enjoyed preaching last night.

It was so good to see the folks again. They are very dear to our hearts and it is always great to be able to worship with them and to visit with them.

I appreciate Bro. Rogers and the folks receiving us so warmly. It means so much to us. God bless you all.

Bro. and Sis. Rogers

The BoggsMobile and the Green Machine at Bethany.

We also had a pretty special thing happen Wednesday. I can not explain it all here but it was tremendous for us.

God answered a very specific prayer for our family yesterday. It is something we have prayed about for well over 12 years. Hallelujah! God is faithful and righteous!

It is amazing to watch God work. He may not come when you want Him but He'll be there right on time. He's an on time God, Yes He is! Praise God!

We hope to spend time with some more special friends today. Have a great day!

Travel Day - Pender, Nebraska to Wichita, Kansas

Long, long day and short, short post.

I rolled out of bed at 6:00 to get an early start but the weather had different ideas. That was quite a storm. There have been several times that I had to hook up in the middle of a storm but this morning I had choices and I chose to wait out.

The sun came out a few hours later and we hooked up the trailer, loaded up the car and hit the road.

Fast forward 400 miles through the absolutely beautiful scenery in Nebraska and Kansas and before we knew it we were pulling into Wichita. We dropped the trailer at New Horizon, parked the BoggsMobile at Bethany Revival Center, visited a few minutes with friends and then went for supper.

We had never been to this HuHot but Kelly Jo has been craving it for a few days and she was glad to see they had opened one in Wichita. They did not have an ounce of wasabi in the store (What's up with that?) but it was still very, very good.

Odie was smiling so it must have been good!

Good night. God bless you all.

Fickle Weather and Great Customer Service

Wow! What a toad strangler we had here this morning! In fact we had two nasty looking storm systems blow through Pender, Nebraska before 10:00. Didn't it rain, children, didn't it rain!

The water piled up on Odie's wheel chair cover.

I was sitting outside early this morning waiting on the tech from Blue Ox to pick up my tow bar. I was reading and had not been paying attention to the sky. Well, the sky opened up and all the water fell out.

I grabbed my chair and threw it in the car and I rode out that squall in the front seat. It was a wicked storm with lots of huge thunder claps. I took the picture above after that front passed.

The sun came out, the sky cleared, the temperature went up and then it rained another bucket load all over again.

Wow! You talk about fickle weather! That reminds me of something Kelly Jo and I have laughed about for years.

We grew up in southern Ohio and heard people make some version of the following statement all our lives.

They would say, "The weather in Ohio is different than any where else. If you don't like the weather here just stick around 15 minutes and it will change."

We started traveling soon after we were married and found that folks say that every where. After we heard the same exact statement in about 5 different states it was all we could do to keep from busting out laughing.

After hearing the same thing in about 30 states from people that absolutely believe in only applies to their area we just chuckle and grin. The weather may be different but people are the same every where.

This picture is a sample of the pretty weather we have had all afternoon.

What, you don't like sunshine and blue skies? Well, hang around about 15 minutes. Here in Nebraska, it will probably change! Lol

We are staying in Pender another night. The tech was covered up today with tow bars to work on. On top of that, mine had some special problems they had to deal with.

Because of that they did not get finished and get me cashed out until about 3:00 PM. We would have been 4:00 leaving so we decided to leave tomorrow.

They really took care of my tow bar here at the Blue Ox factory. They believe in customer service enough to actually put it into practice.

My tow bar is too old to be as good as new but it is as close as it has been in a long time. Plus it has a bunch of new parts! The cost? $25 + tax.

Great service + Great attitude + Great price = A Great Deal.

I have always liked the Blue Ox towing system and now I have even more reason to like them. I have been a loyal customer but they have cemented that loyalty with great service.

That is a rarity in today's world.
