The Truth About Elections 2014

If you have not already done so, make sure you take time to vote today. Even though I have felt kind of ambivalent about the last few elections I still make sure we vote. Voting in free and fair elections is as American as apple pie. Although we are not physically close to home in Ohio and can not go to the polls we have sent our absentee ballots in.

I posted the following after the disappointing presidential election in 2012. Lots of folks responded in a very positive way and I appreciated the response very much. It is as true now as it was then. We need to remember that God is control no matter which party controls the House, the Senate or the White House.

God bless you and I hope you enjoy.

The truth about elections.

Truth #1. God established that we should have government.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1

There can be no doubt that God’s plan for humanity included that we should have government. The Bible is plain on this subject.

Truth #2. According to the Bible we have certain rights and responsibilities to that government.

We are to be submissive to our government to the full extent that our relationship with Christ will allow. I Peter 2:13-14 and Titus 3:1 are two examples.

We should pray for our government and I believe we should participate in our government. We should participate in the national conversation and make our voice known by voting.

Truth #3. Elections do not always go our way.

The first election that I was fully aware of was 1976. I was terribly disappointed in the outcome. After that election I became accustomed to elections going “my” way. 1992 hit me hard! I remember exactly where we were when we heard the results of the 92 election.

1996, 2008 and now 2012 are some more elections that did not go my way. My guy lost. I was not enthused about “my guy” in most if not all of those elections but he was “my guy.” I was disappointed in the man that won each time and in each case he led the country down paths that I did not like. If President Obama is able to accomplish his stated goals this time I know I will not like it. Let's not even talk about my concerns about his real agenda. But…

Truth #4. We need to make sure that we keep the enemy in proper perspective.

There are spiritual forces at work. There is a real devil with a real agenda against all that is good and right. There are men in our world system that will do their dead level best to fulfill all of satan’s will. But man is not our enemy!

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) II Corinthians 10:3-4

President Obama is not my enemy. His policies are liberal. His tendencies are socialist. His loyalties are questionable. His intentions are debatable. He seems haughty, aloof, arrogant and proud. But even IF all of this is and much worse is true, President Obama is not the enemy.

We are not fighting flesh and blood! The enemy is not a person. The enemy is the devil! We must keep that in perspective.

Truth #5. God has a divine plan.

We must remember that. God has a divine plan. You do not know what that plan is. I do not know what that plan is. The president, your congressman, your senator, not even your mother knows what that plan is. But God has a divine plan.

Truth #6. God’s plan will prevail.

You can not side track God’s plan. The president can not side track God’s plan. A bad election can not side track God’s plan. A thousand bad elections can not side track God’s plan. God will prevail, my friend. God will prevail.

What is the truth about elections? The truth is they matter to us. They matter deeply and I think they should. But elections do not affect God. God was not voted out on November 6, 2012. (God will not be affected by the election today, November 4, 2014.) God is still on the throne. God is still working His will in our lives. God still has the whole world in His hands, including you and me and President Obama. Thank God for that!

A Great Sunday at Riverdale

Edit: Church at Riverdale starts at 7:30 on Monday and Wednesday night. Tuesday is election day and we will begin service at 6:00 to allow people to participate in the election night activities of candidates they have supported.

I am glad to report that we were all feeling some better Sunday. None of us are even near 100% but we are gaining. We were able to sing some Sunday morning and I still had some voice after I preached. Those are good signs that we may live through this cold/flu/junk yet. I know that some of you pray for our health and safety everyday and I want you to know we appreciate it very much.

We are back at one of the prettiest churches in America this week and we are super glad to be here.

Isn't beautiful?

And it is just as pretty on the inside too.

Saturday evening Kelly Jo slipped over to the corner store for a 4x4. What is a 4x4? Only one of the best sub style sandwiches in the world. We love these things!

Sunday morning we had a great service with a very good response in the altar. I am always thankful when folks respond to the Word of God. He knows what we need to hear. I know that the next three nights are going to be tremendous.

We really did not get that many pictures of our friends at Riverdale but I am sure we will have plenty of pictures before revival is over

We had a great meal Sunday afternoon with the Spencer's at Black Bear Diner.

Sunday night was a special night at Riverdale. They had a big birthday banquet for Sis. Spencer. She turned 76 years old and we celebrated it up big. They had a super fine meal and a wonderful pie auction afterward. They did a silent auction and then a live auction of 57 homemade desserts! Wow! What a way to totally destroy a diet!

Bro. Spencer and the birthday girl.

This was one of the desserts that sold at auction. I sampled this one and it was awesome!

Thanks Sis. Amber!

This is another dessert that I sampled. Red Velvet Cheesecake. Wow! Sis. Crystal Spencer made this. Thank you Sis. Crystal.

That pretty much wraps up a super Sunday for us at Riverdale Assembly in Riverdale, California. What a wonderful day with great friends. I hope you had a great Sunday as well.

View Out The Front Window November 2, 2014

Although we have posted everyday this week we have been doing as little as possible otherwise. Hopefully we are on the mend and ready for the busy weeks ahead. We made the move from a campground to Riverdale Assembly in Riverdale, California Saturday. We are supposed to begin revival here this morning and we are really looking forward to it.

Kelly Jo did fix some great meals while we were resting.

We forgot to take pictures of our view the last few days. We plan to be back there later in our California stay so you can see it then.

This is our view the next few days here at Riverdale. The BoggsMobile is well familiar with this view.

As you can see it has been raining some. It is certainly a welcome sight in central California and they could use a whole lot more rain. It has brought cooler than normal temperatures but the minor inconvenience is well worth it.

We have had some great times here in times past and we are looking for a great move of God this week. Thank you for praying for us. I hope you have a great Sunday.
