Apps That Help Me Reach My Goals

Note from Odie

Hello friends!!

I hope the new year is off to a good start for you. As you have been reading ours is off to a flying start. We love being with the Galihers the whole family is a bundle of fun. They keep me rolling in laughter. I feel so blessed to call them my friends.

I was excited for a new year to start. I view it has a clean page in the story of my life. No I can not change my past but I can move forward in the future.   I have  some goals for 2014. I have a group of friends helping this time. I'm excited about what is ahead with us working together.

Since September I have been trying to shed some weight. It is coming off slowly. It feels good to see it leaving. You all know my love for food, some days I struggle to persevere. I am committed to seeing my goal. Also it helps to know I'm not alone in this fight!

There is an App for the iPhone/iPad called Restaurant Nutrition. It helps me choose healthy options when eating out. I get hungry just looking at the list of restaurants.

Each year I see lots of room for growth spiritually.  I am just a week into to 2014 but I am working hard on this area. I enjoy having apps and things to help me accomplish this daily. All of these are free to iTunes users.

I love Blue Letter Bible. It is easy to navigate, the study features are nice and searching for scriptures is so easy. You do not have to be connected to the internet to use Blue Letter Bible. They do offer some more features when connected to wifi. You can listen as the bible is read to you when connected to the internet.

I also have the bible in MP3 format on my iPad. I like to listen as I read along. It helps with pronouncing big words. I found my Bible MP3 program at Dollar General a few years ago. Each each book of the bible is one long track so I have keep track of the time everyday when I finish reading. Dad has Alexander Scourby reading the Bible on MP3. You can get those from Christian Book Distributor. They are reasonably priced. www.christianbook.com

Another app I have enjoyed for awhile is Bible One Year. It tells you what chapters to read every day to read the Bible through in a year. You can mark the chapters off as you go to keep track of what you have read.

I am really enjoying the devotional I am using in addition to my Bible reading (pictured below). So far it is both challenging and encouraging. The verses given are not always KJV, so I look them up in my Bible. This book gives me something to ponder through the day. Thanks to an iTunes gift card I bought it from iBooks for free. Both iBooks and Kindle offer the book for $3.99. They offer several devotionals if you are looking for extra help.

I am sure there are many great apps and helps I am not aware of at this time. Many apps work for some but do not fit everyone. It is fun application swapping with friends. What apps do you use?

It is not to late to start working toward your goals in 2014. This is a couple of mine for this year. Have a wonderful weekend.

He Came Through
(The Lord Came Through)
Ashley Cleveland, James Hollihan, Russ Taff, Walter H. Wilson Jr./Warner-Tamerlane Pub. Co./BMI

Picture Moses at the Red Sea shore
Old Pharoah knows he can't run no more.
Those waters are way too deep and wide
and they can't swim and they can't hide.
Though he was just a man
Moses raised his hand
And the Lord came through, He heard their cry.
When hope was gone He turned the tide.
You can shake your head, But you know it's true.
When there was no other way
The Lord came through.
2nd Verse
King Darius and all his men
They threw old Daniel in the lions den.
He had done no crime but he had to pay.
For praying to the Lord three times a day.
But at the break of dawn they came looking for his bones
But the Lord came through, He pulled him out.
He tamed the lions, He shut their mouths.
You can shake your head, but you know it's true
When there was no other way
The Lord came through.
3rd Verse
These stories gathered dust upon the shelf
Until I fell into a trap I made myself.
My stuggles only brought me pain.
And I knew that I could never break those chains
But the Lord came through, He rescued me.
He broke the lock and set me free.
You can shake your head but I'm living proof.
When there was no other way
The Lord came through.
Final Chorus
The Lord came through. He always does.
With His power and with His love.
You can shake your head but you know it's true,
When there was no other way
The Lord came through.

You Saved Me
Jeff Silvey, Michael Puryear/Milene Music, BMG Music Pub., Inc./BMI

When I look into the mirror
I know I wouldn’t be here
If not for you
When I caused you so much pain
And you could have turned away
Your faith held true
When my life had turned to ashes
And my dreams went up in smoke
You were the constant one
My only source of hope
Chorus
You saved me
At each and every turn
As I stood frozen on the bridges I would burn
You saved me
When I was my own worst enemy
Your love is the key that set me free
Lord you saved me
2nd Verse
When I look up at the cross and consider all it cost
I stand amazed
Then I’m driven to my knees
Cause my mind cannot conceive
Your endless grace
You know the very number
Every hair upon my head
You loved me and you chose me
Before I took my first breath.

God Says You Can
Marcia Henry, Karen Peck/Chesnut Mound Music, Karen Peck Music/BMI
(1st Verse rearranged by Kelly Boggs)

After years of serving the Lord
The only life you’ve ever lived
You left it all to find yourself
The freedom you thought you’d missed
But the open arms of your heavenly Father
Welcome you home again.
You have no confidence to stand
But God says you can
Chorus
If God says you can you can do anything
Put your trust in Him and just believe
He’ll work it out somehow
When you find yourself starting over again
Begin by putting it all in His hands
Though the world says you can’t
God says you can
2nd Verse
Pressures of life will grind you down
‘Til you’ve passed the point of coping
No comfort you find on the left or the right
No reason left for hoping
The outlook is grim
But not according to Him
He’s always got a better plan
The world says you’ll never stand
But God says you can
Bridge
God is my rock, my sword and shield, I’ll trust Him faithfully
He said I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

I think I’ll Take Some Time
Bryant Jones Sr./Ship Publishing/All Rights by Just Mike Music/BMI/2nd verse written by Sharon Whitley

Well, I know it’s been said a time or two
It’s no secret what God can do
He did it for my mother, He did it for my father
He’ll do it for me, and for you too.
I’ve had so many ups and downs,
Seems like my world goes round and round,
I look to Jesus and then I found,
My feet were planted on higher ground.
Chorus
I think ( I think)  I’ll take (I’ll take) some time (some time)
To praise the Lord.
For He (for He) has been (has been)
The Lord’s been mighty good to me.
I think (I think) I’ll take ( I’ll take) some time (some time)
To praise the Lord.
I want to thank Him for saving me.

2nd Verse
When the day of Pentecost was fully come,
After ten days of seeking the Son.
There came a sound like a rushing wind,
tongues of fire fell down on each of them.
One night as I had knelt in prayer,
The Holy Ghost came and met me there.
I gave Him my heart, I gave Him my soul,
Since then He’s had complete control.

When Nothing But a Miracle Will Do
Rhonda Elizabeth Belford, Aaron Wilburn/House of Aaron Music/BMI

When you’ve tried everything
And everything you’ve tried has failed
You’re standing at the harbor
And your ship of hope has sailed
Friends have no answers
Peace just can’t be found
Oh but there’s a hand of mercy
That can turn it all around
Chorus
When nothing but a miracle will do
There’s nothing that the hand of God
Cannot bring you through
I know He’s more than able
And He will deliver you
When nothing but a miracle will do
2nd Verse
When you’ve cried out in the darkness
And no one seems to hear
Just because you can’t see Him
Doesn’t mean He isn’t near
Perhaps He’s only waiting
Till you’ve done all you can do
Until He’s the only thing
That’s left to hold on to
Bridge
I hear Daniel, Jonah, Peter and Paul
They’re shouting with Lazarus
He delivered us all.

Redeemed
Gerald Crabb/Crabb’s Song Music/BMI

There is a word that’s so dear to my heart
It’s brought light to my dark dreary soul
For without it my end would be pain and despair
God’s city I’d never behold
2nd Verse
You know Satan once held me so firm in his prison
I’d never get out so it seemed
Until one day I heard footsteps down the hall of the dungeon
And a voice cried I’ve come to redeem
Chorus
Redeemed, the best thing I’ve ever heard
I’ve been brought here from there by that precious word
I’m free, I’m forgiven, I’m washed and I’m clean
Jesus bought me
Thank God I’m redeemed
3rd Verse
Oh how Christ loved us so much He was willing
To die on an old rugged tree
His blood was my payment
Once now and forever
I’m His thank God I’m redeemed

This is How It Feels To Be Free
Sean Craig, Dave Clark, Don Koch/Ariose Music, Praise Song Press, Admin. By E.M.I Pub./ASCAP

There’s a wall that has been standing
Since the day that Adam fell
Sin is where it started
Sin is why it held
Speaking as a prisoner
Who was there and lived to tell
I remember how it felt
I could hear the sound of freedom
Like a distant voice who called
And beckoned me to follow
Where I had never gone
Though my heart was willing
I just stood there at the wall
Praying somehow it would fall
But in a cross I found the doorway
And a hand that held the keys
When the chains fell at my feet
For the first time I could see
Chorus
This is how it feels to be free
This is what it means to know that I am forgiven
This is how it feels to be free
To see that life can be more than I imagined
This is how it feels to be free
This is how feels to be free, yeah.
2nd Verse
There are days when I’m reminded
Of the prison I was in
Like a living nightmare
Burning from within
I can feel the voice of evil
I can hear the call of sin
But I won’t go back again
See, once I tasted freedom
Then the walls could bind no more
Since mercy gave me wings to fly
Like an eagle I can soar
Bridge
Somewhere there’s a prison
Where the chains still bind
There but for the grace of God
Those walls could still be mine
So for all the captives I say.

I’m at your Mercy
Harrie and Joyce Martin McCollough, Jeff Silvey/Berlin Rd. Music, Joyce Martin McCollough Pub., Willow Branch Pub./BMI

Been hiding from the heartache, covering the pain
Hoping that the past would disappear
But all my buried failures are staring back at me
Every time I look into the mirror
Truthful accusations, my verdict has come in
Guilty of trangression, I’m convicted once again
Chorus
Lord I’m at Your Mercy, I’m drowning in despair
I’ve come crawling back to you with burdens I can’t bare
On my knees before you I am broken and ashamed
Lord I’m at your mercy so let your mercy reign
2nd Verse
Your love is overwhelming, it’s patient and it’s kind
And I will always marvel at Your grace
Every time I stumble I know I’m not alone
You stood by me through every trial I faced
Lord you’re my defender, forgiving every fault
So I now surrender, let the gavel fall

Soon Be Gone
Davy Boggs/Odie Podie Music/BMI

God spoke to Hezekiah a man of God of old
He had no time to call his friends or count up all his gold
For God had took away his days,
All that he could do was pray
Set Your house in order
Soon be gone
Chorus
We’ll soon be gone, soon be gone
This old world is all but ended, soon be gone.
All our treasures here will pass
We’ll be on our way at last
We’re gonna leave this world a shoutin’
Soon be gone.
2nd Verse
Each day we spend down here we’ve got one less day to go
‘Til we leave our earthly dwelling and take up our mansion home
Golden streets and mansions fair
Death and heartache won’t be there
We’re gonna shout around the throne
When we get home.
3rd Verse
The troubles that fall around us here won’t be up above
The hatred that is cast on us will be joy, peace and love
If we make Jesus Christ our king
Love Him more than anything
Gonna ride the clouds to glory
Soon be gone.

Do Your Little Part
David Rose/Odie Podie Music/BMI

Jesus took a little fish and bread
He blessed it and the multitude it fed
What He had did not seem like very much
But a little made a lot with God’s touch
Chorus
Oh be willing to do your little part
And do it from the bottom of your heart
What you have may not seem like very much
But a little makes a lot with God’s touch
2nd Verse
If it’s nothing but stand and clap your hands
Just do it and the Lord will understand
For He knows all about you any way
He’ll be your judge on that great judgment day

Power To Restore
Davy, Kelly and Odie Boggs, Rick Combs/Odie Podie Music/BMI

A life filled with wonder
Everything in place.
Just one moment of pleasure
Leaves you in disgrace.
You’re looking for an exit
From this place you’ve walked into.
But is God so understanding
That He would rescue you.
I need to tell you friend
Defeat is not the end.
Chorus
Power to restore
When sin has left you blind.
Power to renew
Your heart, your soul, your mind.
Power that abounds
With grace and love and more.
In the cross of Christ
Power to restore.
2nd Verse
It’s easier to give up
Turn and walk away.
But God is seeking children
Who may have lost their way.
He sent Jesus to the cross
To bring back all the lost.

Have You Encouraged Somebody Today?

We have another layer of snow coming down as I type Wednesday night and it is mixed with some freezing rain or ice. The weather app on my phone is calling it "Freezing Drizzle." Whatever the mix it has made for some very slippery conditions so we were not able to have church Wednesday night. Hopefully it will clear up in time for church Thursday night.

Hank the Church Dog AKA Hank the Tank needed some attention yesterday while Odie was outside. Hank does not have a clue how special he is. Odie has been running from every dog in the world for over 28 years but Hank has captured her heart!

He was one happy dog!

He is a might jealous when I go over to pet Daisy. He does not mind if I pet her he just wants one hand on him!

I had some hot water ready to set her free but I could not get Odie to lick the bus when the temperature was about 10 degrees. She may have heard stories about that some where.

Have You Encouraged Somebody On Purpose Today? I have and it came back 100 fold.

My phone rang today with some encouragement on the other end of the line. It was a distant cousin of mine that I see very rarely. I am talking 3-4 times over the last 10 years. They were sitting in the house trying to stay warm and passing the time by listening to music. They were playing the CD that I posted the lyrics too yesterday, Cradled In Grace and also the next CD after that one This Is How It Feels To Be Free.

I suppose she found my number on the newer of the CDs and called me up. She had nothing but encouraging things to say and it came at a perfect time. You would have thought by the way she went on that our music that she was listening to was the best music she had ever heard.

I try to encourage people on purpose on a regular basis. I want that to be a regular part of my life. I want it to be in my very nature to provide comfort, cheer and inspiration to others. But that phone call gave me a little extra inspiration today. Her call made me want to call somebody I had been thinking of and pass along the good deed. In response I tried to encourage several of my friends and acquaintances today.

Have you told somebody today how much they brighten your life when you think about them. You might be surprised how much it would help them and how much it would help you in the process.

After writing the paragraphs above I noticed a new email had came in. We have never received an email from this person as far as I know. The note was encouraging us to press on through the difficulties in life and keep ministering to folks in need. It was very hard to read such a heartfelt letter with out crying on my keyboard.

God is amazing. He allows someone unexpected to encourage us with a phone call. That inspires me to reach out and encourage a few more folks. God then allows somebody else to come out of left field and strengthen us even more. Let's see if we can start a few more circles of hope, strength and encouragement.
