Vintage View Vednesday Simple Truth May 2006

We are having a wonderful time this week at First Pentecostal Church in London, Kentucky with Pastor Vernon Jarvis and all of his fine folks. They sure deserve better preaching than what they are getting, but they are very gracious about it. We absolutely love being here.

Vintage View Vednesday

Vintage View Vednesday this week takes us back to May of 2006. We were at Hilltop studio near Nashville recording our Simple Truth CD. We love the recording process and being with Ben Isaacs and all of the talented musicians makes it even more fun.

It was a great, great experience. We spent one day tracking the music, about two days on vocals and then a day or two on mixing. We had it mastered later at another studio in Nashville.

We had the Kountry Star fifth wheel then and we parked in an RV park in Goodlettsville. We were there for two full weeks. I think we did the tracking the first week and then rested our voices until we recorded the vocals the second week. 

We had a lot of family fun in the campground and visiting local churches in the Nashville area. We sometimes stay in campgrounds during revivals, but while families are building fires for the evening, we come out in our dress clothes, load up in the car and leave. We get a LOT of funny looks.

It is every once in a while to actually "use" the campground.

We have great memories from these few days of recording. We had a blast. We really, really need to get back into the studio and these pictures make us want to get it done now!

Good News From GoodNews Christian School - Nigeria

During our last visit to Nigeria near the end of 2016 we visited the GoodNews Christian School in Abeokuta as we always do. We were anxious to see the progress on the new construction of a building with two new classrooms. We had given money before that toward the construction and on that visit we took the funds to finish it.

This is what the new building looked like in late November 2016.

The money we left behind and their hard work turned into this by the middle of January! Beautiful!

Those two big classrooms provided them with enough space for the students they had at that time and no more. I was thrilled to find out they had built the building with the proper foundation and walls to support a second story in the future. I told Bro. Shobanke we would start preparing to help with that project right away.

Real life intervened when the church on that same property had to be torn down last year and rebuilt because it was in danger of collapsing. The church was completed and dedicated in December 2017 debt free!

We gave Bro. Shobanke an offering in May to help begin the second story on the school building and when school term was ended they began. He sent me these pictures a few days ago.

Concrete one bucket at a time!

I am so excited to see the progress. It is the rainy season in Nigeria right now so any work accomplished at all is a miracle. Thank you for helping us to help them to do this and we are hoping to do more. They are trying to expand the school and they need the classrooms.

As I have mentioned many times, the school is a very effective and critical outreach and we believe in it very much. Bro. Shobanke's daughters Ruth and Rebecca run the school and do an excellent job. We also hope to take some school supplies, money for school supplies and money for salaries when we go to Nigeria this November.

Weekend Woundup and Weview August 27, 2918

We were preaching in Virginia in 1992 and I woke up one morning sick. I was coughing and hacking and it grew worse all day long. By church time my eyes were about swollen together, my throat was sore and my voice was gone. We were leaving after church for Bond, Kentucky and by the time we arrived there the next morning I was a mess.

I thought I was dying. People starting saying things like this to me, "I am allergic to ragweed too" and "Do you take anything for your allergies?" 

What? Allergies? I have never been allergic to anything in my life except for penicillin and pain. But at 24 years of age, I developed allergies to something in the fall. I have had some years that were better than others, but the allergies usually kick in about the third week of August and hang on until the first good frost! Yuck!

True to form, last Sunday my voice was good and strong. By Tuesday morning I could feel my voice slipping away. This Sunday was a struggle. Oh well, 'Tis the season to be sneeezin'

Saturday morning we were rushing around trying to hit the road. First, I have to visit the center of disorganization in the universe, better know as the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. I need to get a new sticker for the tent trailer tag. I will spare you the details, but lets just say I should be perfect and entire, wanting nothing any day now. Whew!

Kelly Jo was loading tools and getting things ready to ride while I was gone. We hooked up the trailer, loaded the Green Machine, fetched Odie from the Manse and headed to Acapulco to meet our parents for lunch at 11:30.

It was excellent of course! Visiting with our parents was even better.

W hit the road from there and less than four hours of driving in the rain later, we were pulling into London First Pentecostal Church and beautiful sunshine. Soon the trailer was parked, the car was extracted the bus was parked and hooked up, the sound system was set up, our bellies were full and we settled in for a long winter nap in the summer!

It has been 18 months since we have preached revival at First Pentecostal and it is good to be back. We love the services here and the revival services yesterday only reinforced that. The people responded wonderfully in the altar and God visited us both services. Praise God!

We appreciate Pastor Vernon Jarvis for inviting us into his church and for all of his fine folks for welcoming us with open arms. We are enjoying revival and expecting even better things the rest of the week.

Our view is a changing! We were parked at Dryden Rd. Pentecostal Church from Tuesday through Friday. We were parked right behind another evangelist so I did not take a picture looking from our front window into their living room. I took these instead.😁
