Happy 27th Birthday!

We have a special day to mark this month. It is not a birthday, exactly, but it is a birthday of sorts. Specifically, it is an anniversary of a manufacturing day. Our bus, the BoggsMobile was built as a shell in February 1995 in the village of Sainte Claire, Quebec, Canada.

Four pictures from the last two months.

I have a copy of the original build sheet as ordered by a business in southern California. It was ordered with two doors, two escape hatches and fourteen swing out escape windows.

The mid door on a Prevost is extremely rare mostly because it is undesirable. However, the original owner ordered the mid door in order to rig up a ramp and winch to load a wheelchair. It was sketchy at best.

It was ordered with bus heat and air that is designed to comfortably heat or cool over fifty passengers. Most motorhome conversion companies do not add the bus heat and air, as it is an expensive option. It is also an awesome feature to have on the bus.

The bus was and is powered by a Detroit 60 series engine with a six speed Allison World automatic transmission. It was built near the beginning of the run of the Detroit 60 series in Prevost buses and that engine would be the standard for Prevost for over fifteen years.

At that time, Prevost produced the XL model and the H. The XL had stainless side riveted to the frame and that is what this bus is. The XL was manufactured another five or six years and was replaced by the XLII. That has now been replaced by the beautiful X3-45.

Back in 1995 and still today, the normal process of ordering a Prevost Motorhome was to order from one of several established converters. The converter buys the shell from Prevost and builds the interior and paint scheme to your custom order.

Our bus was built differently. A businessman in California ordered a shell custom built from Prevost with the features he wanted. While it was being built, he shopped for a custom conversion package from a few major converters.

We have much of his correspondence between him and these companies. He settled on Featherlite Vantare in Sanford, Florida and the bus was driven there in early 1995. It arrived there as an empty shell, but was completely painted on the outside. There is an interesting story about the paint job that I may tell you later.

I suspect he had to pay more for the total package because of the way he went about it, but he had a bus built exactly the way he wanted it. It was delivered as a motorhome in late 1995 and titled as a 1996 Prevost XL Vantare.

Technically it is a 1996, but for parts and repair purposes, it is a 1995. That is not uncommon in the bus motorhome world. Some conversions are titled two years newer than the shell depending on lots of factors.

The second owner was a farmer in the panhandle of Texas. I do not know when he purchased it from the first owner. He later traded it for a newer used one at Florida Luxury Coach in Sanford, Florida. It sat on that lot for many months less than one mile from where it was converted years earlier.

In 2007, Kelly Jo found the bus online about the same time that a friend of mine found it in an RV Trader magazine. I made an offer for about 55% of the asking price. They literally laughed at our offer.

Why that certain number? Because I had been approved for that much and I thought I could make those payments. I was determined that we would buy a bus for that price or less if we bought one at all.

Several months later they were down to my price and I made a lower offer. They countered with my original offer price and agreed to fix a few things and the rest is history. HERE is a post from last year with more details of the process.

On March 21, 2008 we purchased the bus that became the BoggsMobile and here are a few pictures from that day.

In less than 60 days we will pass the 14 year mark of ownership and the BoggsMobile will also roll over 400,000 miles soon. Both of those milestones will probably receive their own Mile Marker.

We are very thankful for our 27 year old bus! Happy Birthday BoggsMobile!

Thank you for reading today.

A Word For Wednesay - The Power of Your Epistle

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

The Power of Your Epistle or I could say The Power of Your Personal Testimony.

Bro. David Noe sent me his daily test a week or so back and it said this: The job of every Christian is to continue the work of Christ through Personal Experience and Public Example.

That text moved me deeply and I have enjoyed letting it percolate in my soul over the last several days. We must have a personal experience with Christ. We must be born again ourselves and not put our hope in the experience of someone else.

Apostle Paul was teaching in the same vein in II Corinthians 3.

1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

Our Personal Experience Passionate Enthusiasm Persistent Earnestness Will produce a wonderful Public Example

I hope you enjoy today's A Word For Wednesday and pass it on to someone else. Thank you.

A New Home For Old Doors

I wrote about our old barn doors about a month ago. I removed them in August when the overhead door was installed. We laid them aside and finally took them apart in December. I will copy some of that post below.

Not long ago, the guy who bought the frames, track and rollers sent pictures of the old doors on the new addition to his shop. I think they look great.

Outside

The doors even have red metal on them again.

Inside

The old doors with a new home bring a great big smile to my face. It genuinely makes me so happy that these doors work perfectly for someone else and we were able to save him a whole bunch of money in the process.

He told me that he would eventually like to have an overhead door, but these doors should be ideal for many, many years to come. Yep, that makes me happy.

We had a day in mid December without rain and with only mildly arctic temperatures so we removed the metal from the frames.

I suppose this is the manufacture date of the metal. 12/8/81.

I was amazed that the screws came out so easily. The guides mounted on the barn did not come off easily, but we finally removed them!

I am saving the faded red metal to finish around the new door and for a few other places around the barn. I kept the frames, tracks, rollers and guides and they are in really good shape. I was hoping I could find someone that needed doors and did not have money to build doors like these.

Each door is 14'x7', but could be rebuilt to a smaller size if needed. As they are, they can cover a 14x14 opening. I put them on Craigslist in Dayton and Cincinnati at a very cheap price. You could not purchase the track and rollers for the price of everything.

The ad stayed up on Craigslist for two or three weeks without one bite. I did not even get scam emails or texts! I usually always have someone wanting to send extra money in exchange for my account numbers.😍

I put up the ad and did not update it, renew it or even look at it the whole time. I heard nothing but crickets from the ads.

Monday night a guy text me from 9:30 to 10:40 about the doors. He decided to take them and he made arrangements to do the deal Tuesday morning. By 6:00 Tuesday morning he was pulling in and loading up.

He drove 90 minutes from Kentucky to get the doors, tracks, rollers and guides. He is finishing up a new building and they are the exact size he needs. He saved a lot of money and got exactly what he needed.

By 6:30 AM, we had the doors loaded, strapped and he was on his way to work.

I sold them for half the asking price and the asking price was WAY less than new material so I was super happy to send them to a good home. That worked out just like I had hoped and imagined!

Some days things work out great!

Thank you for reading today.

The Weekend Dispatch 2/7/22

It was raining cats and dogs Thursday as we left Bernice, Louisiana, so no pictures. Normally, we would not have to rush to leave, but the winter weather that was sweeping much of the nation was threatening the northern Louisiana area. It was time to get out of Dodge. We have wheels on our house and that is one of the reasons.

We pointed straight south and did not stop for more than a few minutes until we were south of I-10. Our overnight parking spot was a familiar stop behind the Bass Pro in Denham Springs, Louisiana. The girls gathered some groceries in the evening and I did as much of nothing as I could.

Friday at 10:30 AM found us at our favorite Mexican Buffet in Baton Rouge, El Magey. I put my pictures in the Saturday soundcheck video, but Odie had a couple.

After lunch Friday, we cranked the bus and finished the short trip to Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Denham Springs. It was raining as we arrived, but here is the bus in the sunshine Saturday.

Here are a few screenshots from home, in Ohio.

7:15 AM Saturday we dialed into a Zoom service in India by invitation of Pastor Johnson George. We were singing and preaching during the monthly Zoom meeting of his fellowship of Missionary Pastors in different parts of India.

Our part of the service was quite ordinary, but listening to the monthly reports and prayer requests of the people there, was inspiring and humbling. They serve God so faithfully with no thought of commendation or compensation. It was a blessing to be in service to such heroes of the faith.

Saturday we enjoyed Mexican at Pedro's in Denham Springs and Sis. Sissy Arnold's birthday.

After lunch, we loaded in our sound equipment, set up and checked our sound. I edited as quickly as possible and drove toward town to load the video.

Sunday we enjoyed two great services with these fine folks. We appreciate Pastor Jerry Arnold and his people. We are looking forward to three more great services.

That wraps up our weekend. Thank you for dropping by for a few minutes.

Our View Out The Front Window 2/6/22

Programming Note: Our cell signal is very low this week and then the next moment it is gone for the next hour. IF we miss posting or post later in the day, that will be the reason. Thank you for understanding.

Sunday Morning Sanity
Psalm 38:15 For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
Jerimiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Biblical hope is the deep settled confidence that God is who He said He is! DB

I know it is mighty cold and wintery for millions of Americans this weekend. May God bless each of you with a super great Sunday.

Oh Where Is My Hairbrush

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking in with you. I hope you are having a fantastic weekend! Thanks for stopping by for a visit today.

We are enjoying our time in Louisiana. We are scheduled to be in Louisiana through Wednesday night. Then the BoggsMobile will take us to Mississippi. It feels good to be rolling down the road again.

Recently I was trying to locate my hairbrush. I found myself singing a silly song, "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush." When I realized what I was singing, all I could do was smile and laugh. "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush" is an old song from VeggieTales. Click here to see the song.

I have some funny memories tied to the tune. Let me give you a little back story. Then I will explain why "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush" makes me laugh.

Mom is very impressionable and you can plant songs in her head very quickly. Dad and I like to have fun with Mom, trying to see if we can get random songs stuck in her head. Then other times, we just mention a song lyric in passing during a conversation. The next thing we know, Mom is singing the song!

"Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush" Story

Twenty years ago, Mom could hear just a few words or notes of "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush," and she would be stuck on the song for hours.

All the kids in the church that we pastored in Kansas knew that the song would get stuck in Mom's head. They would all sing it to her! We had a blast teasing Mom with "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush."

My friends from other churches liked to join in on the fun too. One time a friend of mine bought Mom a Larry from Veggies Tales and he sang the song.

Mom was constantly singing, "Oh, Where Is My Hairbrush." She would sing about things that she was searching for. One time I heard," Oh, where is my dish towel." I think of the song and the funny memories daily when I need my hairbrush.

Well, I need to go find my hairbrush and fix my hair. I will close for now. Thanks for reading. I will see you next weekend.
