The Weekend Dispatch 10/9/23

We needed an early start Friday to exit the parking lot at Bond before the parking became crowded.

So our weekend began dark and early Friday "morning". We rolled out to the alarm at 5:20, readied the BoggsMobile, wiggled it out of the parking space at Bond and drove around to the front of the property to pick up the tent trailer.

KJo backed up to the trailer, we hooked it up and I pulled out on the road at 6:25. The timing was not too bad, especially since it was raining the whole time. In fact, it rained on us the first 90+ minutes of the drive.

The first few miles after leaving Bond is on narrow crooked roads and it is never pleasant in the BoggsMobile. Adding the tent trailer, darkness and rain ratchets the fun up several notches. Thankfully, we made it with no serious problems.

We arrived at a rest area in Georgetown, Kentucky at 8:30. I was whipped and lay down on the couch until 10:00. That was a huge help. We left at 10:45 and pulled into the Lazy OD Ranch at 12:45 after 210 miles for the day.

My parents were waiting for us when we arrived and helped us get the trailer unhooked, the bus parked and then the trailer in the barn. We visited with them and my sister and her son Luke for a while.

KJo's parents came to visit for a while to finish off our Friday with a smile. We really enjoyed our family all afternoon.

Saturday was pretty much a rush day that ended with a great conclusion. Kelly did laundry and gathered groceries while I worked on recording and editing. Saturday evening my parents took us to Longhorn for a steak. You can not conclude much better than that.

Happy early birthday to Odie!

We had a wonderful meal and a wonderful evening with my parents!

Sunday morning we were singing and preaching at the invitation of Pastor Jay Osborn next door to Odie's house at Dodds Pentecostal Church. We had a great morning with them and we appreciate the kind invitation.

After church, we worked on getting the bus and Jeep ready to roll and made our escape from the Lazy OD Ranch at 2:55.

I picked up a hitchhiker in a wheelchair before I left the ranch!

We drove three hours and 45 minutes to the Illinois Welcome Center on I-70 for a total of 223 miles for the evening. Not bad at all. I had planned to drive to the Flying J in Effingham about 54 miles further, but was afraid there would be no place to park and then I would have to drive a lot longer.

My plan is to drive nearly to Oklahoma and park a couple days. This week is set aside for our annual IRS paperwork for Boggs Family Ministries and we need a couple days of silence for that. Friday night we will be helping with the singing at the fellowship meeting at Bethany Holiness Church.

That wraps up The Weekend Dispatch. Thank you for dropping in.
