Revival In Pictures - Rio, West Virginia

We have been in absolutely beautiful country the last few days, but the trade off was very little phone signal. It was worth the trade! I can not tell you how pretty it was. Wow! I can only imagine how amazing it looks in the fall.

Another plus? Without cell signal, I read most of three books in 3+ days too!

What brought us to gorgeous Rio, West Virginia? Pastor Bob Jeffreys recommended us to Pastor Jed Metzler and Bro. Jed asked us to squeeze in a few nights while we were in the area preaching for Safe Haven Tabernacle in Romney. We appreciate the invitation and we were thrilled to be able to do it.

We love going new places and preaching to new faces. There have been many times that we have never met anyone from the church until revival begins and this is almost one of those times. There were two or three church members that attended a night of revival in Romney and we met another couple in town so we did know someone.๐Ÿ˜

Pastor Metzler and his people received us with open arms and made us feel right at home. Before service even began the first night, we were well on our way to having a good revival.

It was amazing to watch God at work in the very first service. Hallelujah! What God can do with one song or one Word in one service is nearly unbelievable. The only reason it is believable is because we see it with our own eyes and experience it with our own hearts. Praise God for His help!

Odie captures some great pictures so it is time for Revival In Pictures from Kirby Assembly near Rio, West Virginia. I hope you enjoy!

Evangelism Routing and Scheduling Seminar๐Ÿ˜Š

IF you are seeing this on Monday, then our phone signal was too poor to post pictures from the weekend. Never fear, we hope to drive toward the 21st century later today and post The Weekend Dispatch tomorrow.๐Ÿ˜

Evangelism Routing and Scheduling Seminar๐Ÿ˜Š
I sure wish someone taught an Evangelism Routing and Scheduling Masters Class at Bible College. Of course, I would have had to go to Bible College to take the course, but someone should teach it.๐Ÿ˜

I am incredibly thankful that we have places to preach and people wanting us to minister in their churches. We could be sitting at home with no one calling, no one asking and no place to go!

We are always amazed and extremely thankful that Pastors keep asking us to preach revival. Without that, we do not need to worry about a schedule at all.

In 1990 I thought if I had four or five churches that wanted revival, life would be perfect. If fifteen or twenty churches wanted revival, I thought I would be on top of the world. Bro. Bill Houston told me then, "Having churches to go to is the easy part, figuring out how to fit them in and keep them all happy is the hard part."

He knew exactly what he was talking about and I was smart enough to know that! Bro. Bill's advice on scheduling was the second piece of advice I had received on the subject. Our Pastor, Bro. Bennie Sutherland gave me the first lesson.

Bro. Bennie said, "Go preach revival wherever you are asked to go. Do not ask God if you should go. If you are called of God, then go when they ask. When you have two or three places wanting you to preach the same week, then start praying to God for direction."

Those two pieces of excellent advice on scheduling were all the training I had. The rest was learned in the school of experience. You might call it a crash course, pun intended.

Experience:
-One thousand miles between Friday night after church and Sunday morning a few weeks in a row will teach you things you did not know.

-3200 miles between two Sundays will bring higher edumacation right to your door.

-2150 miles between Wednesday night after church and Saturday evening while pulling a fifth wheel will open your eyes to the hard truth.

-So will four revivals in five weeks in four states in three time zones. IF you are paying attention, you will learn from that.๐Ÿ˜

We chased our schedule all over the USA, zigzagging back and forth for years. We were having the time of our life and would not take those years back if we could.

However, in 2008, when gas and diesel crept to the $4 level for the first time, Pastors started saying to us, "Fit us in when you can, we do not want you to have to drive across the country." That is when we began scheduling like we do now.

We make a long drive into an area and then try to keep our next several revivals less than two to four hours apart. That gives us a chance to rest up and we burn less fuel. It has worked wonderfully for fourteen years.

We now drive fifteen to twenty thousand fewer miles each year to revivals than we did from 2003-2007. That is a huge help!

Here is how it looks in the real world.
-In January, we drove 1043 miles for revival in Livingston, Texas.
-Then we drove 143 miles to Sweeny, Texas.
-Then 396 miles to Bernice, Louisiana.
-Then 268 miles to Denham Springs, Louisiana.
-Then 237 miles to Sebastopol, Mississippi.
-Then 160 miles to Citronelle, Alabama.
-Then 94 miles to Ellisville, Mississippi.
-Then 109 miles to Wilmer, Alabama.
-And finally 265 miles to Colquitt, Georgia.

Even though there are a couple jumps in that list that were a bit larger than normal, the whole itinerary worked out perfectly.

Two weeks ago we made a 744 mile jump to northern Virginia and started the process all over again. We are excited to see what the Lord has planned for the future.

Does that make sense? As my good friend, Pastor Barry Gautreaux says, I make sense when I say it to myself!

Thank you for dropping in today. After I wrote the Mile Marker above, I found a Mile Marker I wrote in 2013 that touches on scheduling, price of fuel and surviving. You might find it interesting.

Our View Out The Front Window April 3, 2022

Note: It took forever to get one picture uploaded today with poor cell phone signal. The Weekend Dispatch will probably be delayed until Tuesday, but I will have a substitute Mile Marker ready for tomorrow.

Holiness Hero Sis. Betty Lou Sly

Hey Friends,

This is Odie reporting in from West Virginia. We had a great time in Romney with Pastor Bob Jefferys. God met us in every service of revival at Safe Haven Tabernacle! The fellowship with friends was fabulous!

Now we are in Rio, West Virginia. We are having a weekend revival at Kirby Assembly. It is good to make new friends this weekend.

In the past, I have written about several of my Holiness Heroes. I love giving honor to special people. Many of those people do not know how much their lives have impacted those around them. I am thankful that God has placed wonderful men and women of God in my path.

Sis. Betty Lou Sly
One of my Holiness Heroes completed her earthly race last week. Sis. Sly is now home in Heaven. She had been preparing for her Heavenly home for 60 years! God, church and winning others to God were the focus of her life.

Sis. Sly was an incredible lady! We were privileged to call her our friend. Bro. and Sis. Sly loved going to campmeetings. We met them when I was young at a campmeeting. I really can not remember a time that I did not know them.

I did not talk to Sis. Sly, except when our paths crossed, I knew I had a friend for life. Today I wanted to share a few things that I admire about Sis. Sly.

She was an encourager and a prayer warrior! Her life was a blessing to countless people. Someone said if Betty Lou Sly knew you, she prayed for you. That statement was 100 percent true. It was an honor to be prayed for by such an extraordinary lady!

Sis. Sly was known for making quilts. A few years ago, she gifted us two of her works of art. I love that we have something so precious from our friend.

Supporting Missions was one of Sis. Sly's deepest passions. She did everything she could to support missions! She saved change, sold pens, quilts and whatever she could to help the missionaries.

She was known for saying, "Be Sweet." Many people will miss her admonition to Be Sweet! I want her advice to stay permanently in my heart! Sis. Sly also showed people by example how to be sweet!

We were able to attend her viewing at Bible Holiness church last weekend. I was glad to pay my respects to a wonderful lady of God! Sis. Sly will be greatly missed by her husband, her family, BHC church family and friends!

Last Saturday afternoon, I virtually attended her memorial service. I smiled, laughed and cried as I watched the beautiful service. My tears were not tears of sadness, but they were tears of joy. Sis. Sly lived her life here to the fullest.

She lived her life praising God and longing for the day that she could go home. Along the way, she told everybody she could about God. Sis. Sly wanted to help somebody else to know Him too! Her heart's desires are inspiring me today.

There was one special thing that I admired about my friend. She did not allow this life's pain, sickness, and hardships to hinder her love for God! I try to believe God to heal me today and trust Him and praise Him even if that is not his plan for me.

Sis Betty Lou Sly lived that life by example. She did not get bitter at God for not healing her here. Last week Sis. Sly received the ultimate healing! She is now shouting, running and praising our Savior forever. I am anticipating the day we can race down the streets of gold together!

I will close with the words of her favorite scripture. Thanks for visiting with me today.

Odie

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh,
They stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear:
Though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after;
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:
In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up,
Above mine enemies round about me:
Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;
I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice:
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee,
Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
9 Hide not thy face far from me;
Put not thy servant away in anger:
Thou hast been my help;
Leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the LORD will take me up.
11Teach me thy way, O LORD,
And lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies:
For false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I had fainted,
Unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD:
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
