Vintage View Vednesday Going West 2008

Today is Vintage View Vednesday and this one comes with great pictures and a great story that I have shared before.
A few days ago, the legacy dashboard showed up in Blogger. I do not know where it came from and I do not know how long it will stay, but I am glad to have it back. I immediately tried to load pictures from our archives and they loaded easily!

It is obvious, my computer and the new dashboard do not jive some way. I have not been able to easily add pictures in weeks. I hope the old dashboard hangs around.

This week's Vintage View is of our final trip west in our Chevy truck pulling our Kountry Star Fifth Wheel in January 2008. We were in Oklahoma and left on I-40 going west. Our first stop was one of our favorites, the Big Texan.

I think the weather was warm enough for us to sleep in a truck stop around Amarillo and we got an early start the next morning. We love driving in wide open spaces!

We fueled at a brand new Flying J in Tucumcari, New Mexico and about 40 miles later, we lost power in the truck. The engine would run, but it did not have much power. I stopped at a gas station in the middle of nowhere and started calling friends with diesel knowledge for advice.

The overwhelming theory was trashy fuel or water in the fuel, especially since I had put in fuel about an hour before. It was Saturday morning so my options for finding help were very limited.

This was before we had smart phones, but a guy inside the station told me there was a parts place in a small town about 15-20 miles back the way we came. I had no idea if I could get back to the parts place, change the filter and then return to the middle of nowhere station, so I did not unhook the trailer and leave it.

The truck could barely move the trailer, but we drove on the shoulder and eventually got up to about 20 MPH. We pulled into the parts place about 11:45 and they told me a garage was open around the corner until noon. I bought three filters (not cheap) and pulled up in the parking lot of the garage.

They took off the filter and it was full of gunk. He put on a new one, primed it and had me drive around a few minutes. He removed the new filter and it was full of gunk. He put on a second new one, primed it and had me drive around again.

He removed the filter again and the fuel in the filter was clear. He told me I might need to put on the third new filter later in the day, but that was the end of the trouble. Hallelujah!

He charged me like I was an out of towner with a pocket full of cash, but I was glad he was open, knowledgable and willing to work past closing time.

We lost a few hours due to the fuel trouble and that put us into our destination, a campground in Flagstaff, way after dark. When we traveled in the truck and trailer, we could not stop in the winter without electricity because we had no generator. We always called ahead to make a reservation in a campground and our reservation was right off I-40 in Flagstaff.

There was a few inches of snow on the ground and it was way below freezing when we arrived after dark. They assigned me a pull-through spot, but we had trouble getting into the RV spot because of the ice.

Once we had the Kountry Star parked and mostly level, we had a terrible time getting Odie from the truck into the trailer. I always traveled with a snow shovel then and I had to move a bunch of snow to get level AND to get Odie in.

In the process, another truck and trailer pulled into the space above us and I shoveled a bunch of snow to make way for his wheels and helped him get level on boards.

Once they were settled and we had Odie inside, I told KJo that we were out of fresh water and I was too cold and tired to mess with filling it up and then draining the hose and putting it away. I told her I would get up early and fill it in the morning.

She was fine with that and we went inside, cranked the heat and went to bed.

The next morning I hooked up the water hose and started filling the tank. The water immediately began to overflow. It took me a minute to figure it out, but the tank was completely full. Evidently the guy I helped get in the night before, filled up my tank before he went to bed or before he left early in the morning.

How cool is that? We have always tried to be a good neighbor and it certainly came back to us pressed down, shaken together and running over!

That guy had no idea how stressful my day had been on the road. He did not know we had broken down, backtracked, lost hours and then drove way too many miles so we would not lose money on the campground reservation. He had no idea, but he filled the tank with water and his kindness still makes me smile.

We were not beginning revival in Phoenix until Monday night so we stayed in the campground Sunday night too. Sunday was cold, but the sun was shining and that felt glorious. We were supposed to visit a church plant we had heard about in Flagstaff, but we could not get in touch with the Pastor that day and we did not know where it was.

Monday we drove down to the valley of the sun and into the warm beautiful weather that Phoenix winters are famous for.

Thank you for joining us today. I hope you enjoyed Vintage View Vednesday.

A Plan For The Week

Monday I filled my day with as much of nothing as I could cram into it. Trust me, I stuffed it so full of nothing, that nothing is all that I could see for most of the day!😀😀

I did manage to do some computer work and some sermon preparation and KJo worked hard to catch up on laundry and a bunch of other stuff. She never slows down until I drag her away somewhere.

We have a big and exciting week ahead of us. This week my brother Steve and his wife Karen are moving from Ohio to Wichita, Kansas to work on staff at Bethany Revival Center. We are planning to help them move.

Our part in their move came into being after Steve and Karen decided to accept the position and set a date for moving. At that point, I volunteered to drive the moving truck. I am happy to do it.

Later this week we will drive the truck to Kansas and then turn the unloading over to Pastor John DiZazzo and his folks. I told Pastor DiZazzo that Union rules prevent the driver from touching freight after it has passed over four state lines. We will see how my story holds up.😁

On Saturday we are going to attend a Retirement and Appreciation Reception for Bro. Rickey Searcy in Oklahoma City. Bro. Searcy began pastoring at Mt. Vernon in the late 1970s and recently retired from his position. The church will be honoring him next Saturday and we are thrilled to be a part of it.

On Sunday we are going to preach both services for Pastor Lendell Birdsong at Crosslight Chapel in Moore, OK. We know that will be a big treat for us.

We are looking forward to both of these days in Oklahoma! Bro. Searcy and Bro. Birdsong are both long time friends of ours and we love being around them. I know we will also see many more friends over the weekend as well.

The following week, we will work our way home, preaching in various places as we go. This will be a chance to dip our toe into the newly opened world and see how that goes. If all is well, we will load up in the bus a few days later and venture out for a six week circle. We are praying all is well!

Speaking of going well or not, we received word over the weekend that there has been a flareup of coronavirus in some people we know locally and that are distantly related to us. We have not seen any of them recently, but they are people we know and love. Please help us pray for those that are sick and those that now need to self isolate while navigating the care of their loved ones.

Thank you for your prayers and for joining us for a few minutes today. May God bless you all.

What's Up, Weekend? 6/8/2020

We had a tremendous weekend and we enjoyed every moment of it.

I spent most of the day Friday in my barn study trying to be ready to preach in our online service Friday night and Sunday night at Anchor of Hope in Lebanon. I do not have AC in the study and the heat finally ran me out about mid-afternoon. I guess the heat is a good thing. I was surely weary with winter weather popping up all spring.

We had Friday Night Revival online Friday evening and we enjoyed it very much.

Saturday morning I applied what I hope is a permanent fix to my lawnmower problem. The fuse that supplies charge to the battery keeps "slipping" out of the fuse holder. I discovered last time that each wire has a fuse holder on the end of the wire and they are deformed.

I could have replaced those ends but it was easier for me to source an inline fuse holder. These are the ends of the wires before I cut them.

This is the inline fuse holder I purchased. I had already crimped on connectors and added heat shrink sleeves to the wires.

Connections made

Then I slid the sleeves in place, added a bit of heat with a heat gun and presto!

I put in the fuse, wire tied the fuse holder nice and neat, reinstalled the battery and cranked the mower. 90 minutes later I was finished mowing and the battery was still charged! Yay!

Saturday evening KJo and I loaded up some sound equipment in Dad's truck and took it to Anchor of Hope to set up for Sunday evening. We did sound check and I completely forgot pictures.

Odie was enjoying a visit from cousin Lisa.

We were back at Anchor for service Sunday night and we had a great time with our friends. Some of the churches in the area have not resumed their Sunday night services so we had several visitors from KJo's family, my family and some friends. It was wonderful to have them all.

After church Steve and Karen went through the drive-thru and stopped by Odie's to eat and fellowship. We had a super great time.

That wraps up our weekend. Thank you for joining us on Mile Markers today.

Sunday Morning Sanity June 7, 2020

The world is caught up in "saying" the right thing. Speak out and say it loud.

It is true that words are powerful. Words can kill OR words can begin the healing process. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Proverbs 25:11

Words are powerful, especially when they are spoken in truth and from the heart.

Yet, when it comes to love, words must be backed with action.

I John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Oh, God, help us to love in deed and in truth!

May God bless you with a great Sunday.

The McCoy Family Not Ashamed

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking in today. We have survived another week. The weekend is finally here and I am so thankful you chose to spend a few moments with me. You made my day! Do you have big plans for the weekend? I do not know what we will get into, but it is usually an adventure.

The McCoy Family Not Ashamed

Today I decided to tell you about one of the newest additions to my music library. Pastor Nate McCoy and his family recorded this project late in 2019. We were at their church not long before they recorded. It was neat to get a sneak peek into the songs. We were super excited for them to record!

This family is amazingly talented. I am so proud of them. They sing incredibly well. The girls even write some great songs! I am in awe of their talent! They are anointed! It is an encouragement to see these young people giving their all. They love to worship God in song.

I anxiously awaited my copy, of Not Ashamed, to arrive in the mail. They put a lot of work into making this CD. Their labor absolutely paid off. The whole project is awesome!

I encourage you to get a copy of this project. You will not be disappointed. Here is the contact information that is listed on the CD. You can call them at (530) 902-3052.

Also, you can email them to get the details on securing your own copy of Not Ashamed. Here is their email address themccoyfamilymusic@gmail.com

It will not get you anything extra but tell them that Odie sent you.😀

Bro. Nate and Sis. Chriscinda and their children pastor in Arbuckle, California. They have a wonderful church. We always have a great time with them. Click here to see more about our visit there last year.

Thanks for reading. I will talk to you all later!
