Travel and Tent Take Down

We spent the night Monday in a rest area in Boonville, Missouri. We parked in a good spot for low noise and I think we all slept pretty good. The temperature was in the 80's with humidity in the 80's at bed time so we ran the generator and air conditioning all night. No problem, that is why we have a generator and we are thankful for it!

We were about two hours from St. Louis so we delayed our departure Tuesday morning so that we would miss rush hour. It worked mostly. Traffic was heavy, but we sailed right on through.

The total drive Tuesday ended up at 535 miles and nearly 10 hours. That included emptying the holding tanks and filling the diesel tank at Flying J a few miles from home.

As we pulled into the drive at the Lazy OD Ranch, Mom and Dad pulled in behind us. Kelly Jo fetched the wheel chair so Odie could go in the house and then she unloaded the car from the trailer.

I unhooked the trailer, turned the bus around and backed into the barn with KJ and Dad's help. Then we visited with Dad and Mom and then Steve and Karen in Odie's house a while before bedtime.

After 1230 miles pulling the massive tent trailer behind me, it felt good to back the BoggsMobile in the barn and sleep. I did wake up a few times and wonder where in the world I was. Normal.

Today we have pictures from the tent take down in Colorado Springs. Pastor Thomas decided to begin service Sunday evening at 6:00 so that we would have more daylight for the process. Very nice! It also put us on the road an hour earlier.

Because of the heavy rain earlier in the week, Bro. Gary Thomas has spread some wood chips in the areas that could get muddy. When I had KJ back the bus up to the trailer Sunday afternoon, I did not realize I was putting the bus in the deepest wood chips. The diver's side tires spun down to the mud when we backed the trailer into position. Oops!

Once the tent stuff was loaded into the tent trailer I was hoping the bus would not be stuck. I pulled a trick Bro. Chris Juneau taught me. I held the brakes pretty firmly with my left foot and pushed the accelerator with my right, making the power of the motor overcome the moderate braking. He told me years ago that would help keep the slipping side wheels from spinning.

It worked and we pulled right out. Once on the pavement, we loaded the car and headed home.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. I could not do this without the assistance of all these fine folks!

Vintage View Vednesday - Tyler, TX - Isaacs 2009

We made it to the Lazy OD Ranch about 7:30 PM Eastern on Tuesday.

For this Vintage View Wednesday we are going back to January 2009 to an Isaacs Concert. We missed the Isaacs Musication Nation weekend in Franklin, North Carolina recently and Odie is almost in mourning. Maybe this will help her.

I believe this concert was in Tyler, Texas at Green Acres Baptist Church on a Monday night of all times. We had closed revival on Sunday night and were starting another quite a ways from there on Monday or Tuesday but we detoured through Tyler, if I remember correctly.

We arrived in the early afternoon and parked the BoggsMobile out of the way in the back forty of the massive group of parking areas. We were happy to be there for soundcheck, a great visit and for a wonderful concert.

The church was hoping to have a decent turnout on a Monday night, but did not know exactly what to expect. The lower floor ended up being standing room only and the balcony had a good crowd too!

We also were introduced that night to some folks from near Austin, Texas that we sang for at a later date. That was neat. It was a great night and the pictures bring back a lot of memories.

I hope you enjoy this Vintage View Vednesday. I know that Odie will! Thanks for stopping in.

Travel Days - 1200+ Mile Home

We will post pictures from tent revival and of taking down the tent in Colorado Springs later in the week. Right now I need to bring you up to date on our weekend and travel toward home.

Sunday morning when I was writing our weekend update, we had two services on Sunday of tent revival left, a bunch of prep work to be completed for tent take down and transport, plus I wanted to drive a few hours Sunday night.

It did not look very possible, but we determined to stick to the plan and see what happened.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Early Sunday I worked in the trailer some and then two of Bro. Gary Thomas' sons helped me set up the sound equipment about 8:00 AM. So far so good.

We had a great service Sunday morning and then I finished preparing for the last service and taking down the tent. I had the lights down, the sound system cords on the ground, the trailer sorted, the items outside that needed to be outside and the BoggsMobile hooked up to the trailer by 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Perfect!

Here is Kelly Jo moving the bus into position so that we could hook up to the trailer.

After everything was in place the rain clouds descended and the radar did not look good. Rain on the tent that late was not good for my plan, but if we had to stay over until Monday, we would roll with it.

We escaped with a very, very light sprinkle! Hallelujah!

Church began at 6:00 and we had another wonderful service. We said "Amen" about 7:50 and began the process to take everything down. The Souls Harbor Church and even visitors jumped in to load chairs, take down the sound system and then get the tent on the ground and packed up. By 9:00 we were ready to load the car in the trailer and strap it down.

We were saying tearful goodbyes to all of our new friends and pulling out of Souls Harbor Church about 9:30 PM. We wiggled out of town and 75 miles later we were turning on I-70 east.

We drove five hours and 300 nice trouble free miles Sunday night and stopped to sleep at a rest area near Ogallah, Kansas. We rested a few hours at the rest area and left about noon central time on Monday.

We drove about 400 more miles Monday. The first 3 hours of traveling were a pleasure and then we were smacked with the reality of traffic as we approached Topeka and Kansas City. That was slooooow going.

Our only stop for the day was a fuel stop.

Monday night we stopped at a rest area near Boonville, Missouri. That is where I am typing from now.

We have about 515 more miles to go and we should be home by Tuesday night by God's grace.

Thank you for reading today.
