We Now Have Something To Build On!

Have you ever seen toooooo many pictures of one house? No? Well there is a first time for everything! We have oodles of pictures for you today of the house at the Lazy OD Ranch!

We have been so close to going completely sidegoggled and off schedule that we are very excited that this phase of construction is back to tracking with the original program! David Bulter has worked hard to get us to this point and we are thankful.

We are also thankful for your prayers and thankful that God has heard your prayers. Two weeks ago it looked impossible to jump to the right place on schedule and last week it still seemed unlikely. But here we are on Thursday May 18th and we are nearly ready to frame the house as planned on May 23rd! Praise God!

Tuesday was a full day of preparation with the plumber doing some last minute corrections and David Butler getting the slab ready for inspection. His inspections went off without a hitch as expected.

A few pictures from Tuesday.

David with the inspector.

Wednesday morning came with the promise of concrete and the hottest day of the year so far in Waynesville, Ohio. I tried to comfort David Butler by reminding him that it would be much hotter later in the summer. He said that did not help him much right now.

These pictures are from my Dad, Cousin Lisa and my brother. I appreciate them keeping us informed. Dad spent most of the day out there in the heat!

They had about a 45 MPH wind come up out of the south west after they poured the last open section below. It was drying too quickly but David worked it out.

I left after a great service Wednesday night in Hodgenville and arrived at the barn right at 1:00 AM. This is what the house looked like when I arrived.

If the weather cooperates there is more concrete scheduled later this morning at 9:30 AM for the garage floor. I am on my way to bed so I can be ready for that.

Thanks for reading today.

50 Reasons Why I Do Not Drink Alcohol - Revisited

I often post things that I have posted before but usually I wait a while before doing it. Today I am re-posting something that I published only three months ago. I am doing it for a few reasons.

First, the need is so great. I have been having conversations with Christians and non Christians about the powerful grip of alcohol on the lives of so many people. This demon force is celebrated and revered in our culture because it is such a profit machine. Because of the profit, the world (and sometimes the church) is willing to overlook the destruction it brings.

The manufacturers are making money hand over fist. The distributors are making money. The grocers, restaurants, bars, liquor stores, sports venues, amusement parks and many others are making money. The government is making a mint from the sale of alcohol.

People in the USA are enriched by billions of dollars each and every year by a product that magnifies anger, abuse, misery, disease, accidents, divorce, rape, robbery, destruction and death. The use of alcohol destroys lives, families and communities.

That is the number one reason I am posting this again so soon. The need is great.

Also, I have been encouraged by the terrific response to post this again. Many folks sent texts and emails letting me know they were passing the list on to others. That is reason enough.

Finally, if I could get this post in the minds of one young person, one mother, one father, just one person and that person was influenced to flee from alcohol like the plague it is, that would be worth it all.

So I give you a second dose of a great article I posted back in February. Let me know what you think.

Thank you for reading today.

Amazing!

This list of 50 Reasons Why I Don't Drink was published as an article on the PE News site recently and it reached out and grabbed a hold of my attention in a hurry. Please take time to read this no matter what your feelings may be on the subject of alcohol one way or the other. This list is powerful.

The lady that wrote the article was saved and delivered from alcoholism at age 26. She speaks from experience and I sure wish that folks that may be contemplating the possibility of drinking AND being a Christian would read and consider carefully.

Do me a favor, take time to read it and pass it on. It may save a person you know a whole bunch of heartache down the road.

I am a Christian and I don't drink. I am also a pastor and ex-alcoholic. I need to make that disclaimer right up front. Although it makes me biased, it also makes me an expert on this hotly debated issue.
Some of the worst "shudder moments" of my life have been under the influence, and as a pastor, some of the worst "shudder moments" I have witnessed in the lives of others have been because of alcohol. You have come too late to tell me it's God's best for a Christian to drink.
We are living in a church age where drinking has become "hipster" for some. Christian young adults post pictures of their signature drink on Facebook. Middle-aged Christian women name-drop their favorite brand of Pinot Grigio to impress their wine snob friends. Churches send direct-mail postcards that read, "Give our church a shot!" featuring an edgy shot glass graphic. Even some pastors drink. Not this one.
I stopped drinking when I became a Christian 26 years ago. No one told me to abstain. I just knew it would be contradictory and self-defeating to my relationship with Christ. I had given my life to follow Jesus and nothing was going to hinder my walk. For me, it was a no-brainer.
This article is not a theological defense on the topic of Christians and alcohol (another article for another time), but it is a heartfelt plea. I humbly ask you to table any knee jerk, pro-alcohol, fight-for-my-right-to-drink arguments that you have ever heard, or made, and prayerfully consider this list.
Here are the 50 reasons why I don't drink:
1. I can't be sober-minded if I'm not sober.
2. Alcohol has an assignment: destruction.
3. Alcohol is a depressant. Anything that depresses should be avoided at all costs.
4. I don't want to make my brother or sister stumble in the name of exercising my "Christian liberties." My choice to drink could lead to someone's demise.
5. Alcohol skews my judgment.
6. Alcohol leaves me worse, not better.
7. What I do in moderation, my children will do in excess.
8. Even the unsaved know I shouldn't drink. Bible in one hand, beer in the other — any lost person could point this out as a confusing contradiction.
9. Alcohol doesn't bring others closer to the Lord when they see me drinking, but further away.
10. Alcohol doesn't bring me closer to the Lord when I drink, but further away.
11. I want to be fully awake and ready for the return of Christ, not drowsy, sluggish, or hung over.
12. Show me a family for whom alcohol has made a positive difference in their lives. You won't be able to.
13. I have never heard anyone say, "Wow, that gin and tonic made me feel so Christlike!"
14. I want to avoid all appearances of evil.
15. Alcohol makes it much harder for me to practice the fruit of self-control.
16. Alcohol causes me to lose my filter.
17. Alcohol is a legal mind-altering drug.
18. Alcohol is addictive.
19. Alcohol is a numbing agent for pain and sorrow only Jesus can heal.
20. Many regrets are associated with alcohol. (I can give you a whole bunch!)
21. No one has ever said, "If only I had taken a drink, things wouldn't have gotten out of control."
22. Alcohol causes me to act in ways I normally wouldn't.
23. Alcohol kills brain cells.
24. Alcohol is a counterfeit and provides a false peace.
25. The Bible says that no drunkards will enter the kingdom of God. Being drunk starts with one drink. I don't want to see how far outside the lines I can color when eternity is at stake.
26. Alcohol is a waster — money, gifts and talents, destinies, and so on.
27. Alcohol leads to really bad behavior. It is a factor in 50 percent of violent crimes.
28. Alcohol distracts and derails you from living the victorious life for which Christ died.
29. Wisdom is the principle thing that I need to pursue at all cost; alcohol makes me stupid.
30. Alcohol has ruined many, many marriages.
31. The only influence I should be "under" is God's.
32. The Bible tells me to be alert; alcohol delays my reaction time.
33. If I don't start drinking, I'll never have to stop.
34. Alcohol severely tarnishes my testimony.
35. Don't want your teenagers to drink? Yep, same reasons apply to you.
36. God is holy; alcohol is not.
37. Alcohol and prayer don't mix.
38. Alcohol and Bible study don't mix.
39. Alcohol lowers my resolve to resist temptation.
40. Alcohol = Brokenness (broken lives, health, dreams, and so on)
41. When the world sees us drinking, it sends the message that Jesus isn't enough.
42. Moderate drinking? How about moderate pornography or moderate heroin use or moderate lying or moderate adultery?
43. Christians are called to live a life of total surrender and separation from the world.
44. Alcohol makes me forget. It can make me forget that I am married, that I am saved, and so on.
45. "I don't get drunk. I only have one or two drinks." If they didn't affect you, you would drink soda.
46. I should never look to the glass or bottle for joy, which can only be found in the Lord Jesus Christ.
47. Alcohol fills my mind with impure thoughts.
48. If it could hinder my faith walk or love walk or dishonor the lordship of Jesus Christ, I need to forsake it.
49. Alcohol doesn't help me run the race that Jesus has marked before me to finish with more accuracy. It does the polar opposite.
50. For any argument that tries to justify Christian drinking, there are at least 50 other reasons not to.
The writing is on the wall. It's not God's best for Christians to drink.

House Update 5/16/17

I need to bring you up to date on the house. Thursday afternoon the HVAC guys and plumbers came to do their work that must be completed before concrete. The rain had slowed everything down so all the work needed to be finished at once.

We really had a hard time finding some one that would put the heating and air ducts in the slab but we did not want cold floors for Odie. We considered building on a crawl space but decided against it. We did not know about some of these difficulties

Jeff Haines from Haines Heating and Cooling agreed to do it and they did a fabulous job so far. They worked until after dark and then came back the next morning and finished up in an hour or so. I am very pleased with their work.

The plumbers came back Friday, Saturday and Monday. They finished up and passed their inspection Monday afternoon. We are glad to have one more inspection behind us. I do appreciate the fact that everything must be built to a uniform standard but the thought of inspections always makes me a little apprehensive.

I included this picture of Odie with David Butler yesterday but it is worth posting again.

Especially since I want to write some more about David Butler. There were quite a few decisions to be made Monday as well as some on the fly engineering that needed to take place. David stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. He is going way beyond the call of duty and I appreciate it very, very much.

All of that put David in a bind, through no fault of his own. But he should be ready for his inspection today and he is planning to pour the slab Wednesday morning. That is terrific news. Thank you, Bro. David Butler for all you are doing. May God bless you for it.

I also appreciate my Dad and Mom and my brother Steve for checking on things, running errands and keeping things going. I would not want to attempt this without them.

That brings you up to date. If all goes as planned, progress will keep moving forward over the next 10 days or so.

Thank you for stopping in today.

Weekend Woundup and Weview

It is crazy to think that I am now writing about the 20th weekend of 2017. Someone put this year on fast forward and we are flying through it. I may have to see if I can hit pause and catch my breath.😁

We started the weekend in Ohio and it involved salsa of course! We only went to Acapulco to eat one time but we may have had a few orders of carryout when I was too busy to go personally.

We had a great time one evening with Steve and Karen and Kelly Jo's parents.

There was quite a bit going on at the house  and we were glad to see the progress. I will have more on that later in the week.

David Butler brought Odie a hard hat so that she could supervise properly! I think she looks pretty good!

My Mother and sister stopped by for a few minutes and Dad was already there. The plumber looked up and saw everyone watching and he said, "This house must be a pretty big deal." I said, "Oh, yeah, my daughter is going to be the first person in our family to live inside." Theresa said, "A plumber? What's a plumber?" It was pretty funny.

Friday evening Odie had dinner with some family at Skyline. She enjoyed spending time with cousins Lisa, Geneva and Geneva's husband Mike.

Mike wanted to make sure he was blogged. LOL

We had a great day of services in Hodgenville Sunday.

Evangelist Zane Estes taught Sunday School and it was great!

Youth Pastor Andrew Astor preached a great Mother's Day message Sunday morning. He lifted up the Mothers and encouraged us all!

Sunday night was powerful too. God moved during a testimony of healing and I believe that some more probably were healed as a result!

My two brothers and my sister spent the afternoon eating KFC at Dad's barn for Mother's Day. I was absent but my big Mother's Day card made a grand appearance for me!😂

That wraps up our great weekend. I hope to post some more news about the house tomorrow if all goes as planned. If you are reading this Monday morning, pray that all goes well today. If progress is good today then all should be cleared for the slab to be poured this week. We "think" we need that to happen!

Thank you for reading.
