Last Weekend In Review

Another Saturday is here again so this is Odie writing. I hope you all had a great week. The BoggsMobile has been the sick house this week. These colds are not welcome here!  Several that I have heard from are battling sickness too. It is no fun. I am hoping we are on the upward swing of things now. I have definitely taken advantage of our days off to rest and relax. 

Let me back track to last weekend. My wonderful friend Tammy Ferguson surprised me by coming to the dedication service. Thanks again Tammy for making my day!!  I am looking forward to getting to see her again this coming week in Riverdale. 

Speaking of Riverdale we should be pulling in there sometime this afternoon. We are scheduled to be there Sunday through Wednesday and we will also be doing school revival during the day. It should be exciting.

It was wonderful to have Regan Morris here in California. We had a ton of fun and I lost count of the times we laughed until we hurt. 

Saturday evening after the dedication service Mom was kind enough to take us girls to Starbucks. It was a great time to relax and fellowship. 

 

Before the night was over us girls joined the party going on at "Grandma Cindy's" house. There was lots of laughter and singing. 

Sunday was another great but busy day. In the afternoon Emily, Regan and I had a great time just hanging out. As we say often we love it when our friends become friends. I watched that happen last week with Emily Burris and Regan Morris. I just sat back and smiled. Two of my favorite people are now friends. 

Jake and Miriam Rushing kindly opened their home to us!  They were amazing hosts and we can never thank them enough for their hospitality. Sunday night after church Jake made us No Bake cookies. I am a No Bake cookie junkie, but I limited myself to three. We had a ball playing games and eating cookies!

Monday was a sad day because Regan left us. It was so good to have her with us a few days and we hated to see her go back to Mississippi. Like Dad told you we did take her to see some of the awesome trees in Kings Canyon. You can see some of the pictures Mom took HERE. I am in awe evey time I see these amazing trees.  I will close today's post with my pictures of the Sequoia trees.

Landmark Christ Mission - A Little Closer to Completion

Landmark Christ Mission is a little closer to completion. It has been a very long road for Pastor Kuye and his congregation but God has blessed them abundantly in souls for all of their labor in the kingdom of God.

Earlier in the year I mentioned that we were trying to save some money to help finish the Landmark Christ Mission in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. We met Pastor Stephen Kuye on our first trip to Nigeria in 2007. In 2009 we were blessed to preach in his church and to preach an outdoor Gospel crusade on the grounds behind his church. God met us in a wonderful way right in the middle of their muslim neighborhood.

My heart was knit together with Pastor Kuye and his people and I have wanted to be a part of their work since that first day. I can not be there physically and I could not be as effective as they are in reaching their community for Christ even if I was there. But there are many ways that I can help them.

One of those ways is helping them provide a place for the people there to hear the Gospel message and to be converted and healed. Bro. Kuye told me that 80% of his congregation are converted muslims from right there in their city. 80%! That is awesome and I certainly want to be a part of that. This is what the church looked like when we first visited.

The had a small wooden and block structure for a church and then block walls laid around it for a future church. They started laying those outer blocks by faith in the very same year the church was started in the 1990's. By God's grace and your help we left the money for them to complete the rafters and the roof of the church and in just a few weeks they had the roof completed.

I was thrilled to go back in 2012 and preach in the new church. It was not yet completed but it was beautiful and so much bigger than their original building.

Later they were able to install at least two sets of doors with money we sent.

Although we  were not able to send all the money required to finish the building this year, we did send a good part of it and they are making the most of it. Pastor Kuye sent these pictures Tuesday of some the the plaster being completed on the outside walls. The plaster really starts bringing it all together and I am excited to be a part of helping them reach this stage.

I do not know what the unfinished brick structure is in these pictures. I will have to ask Bro. Kuye about it.

As I said earlier this year, I know there is much work to be done for the kingdom of God and this is a small part of it. However I feel like it is a very important part of the work of God. These are people I know. I have witnessed their burden. I have felt their heartbeat. They are working in difficult and sometimes dangerous places and I believe they are worthy of a helping hand.

I intend to help if I can. God bless you for all that you have already done. If you have some money put back for missions and you would like to help build a church let me know. I will see that every dime of it goes directly into that building.

Beautiful Pictures of King's Canyon

We are still recuperating from whatever has been ailing us. Not gaining ground quickly but we are resting and doing the best we can. Wednesday was a beautiful day but we spent most of it inside.

As I said yesterday Kelly Jo and Odie took Regan Morris to see General Grant the giant Sequoia before they backed tracked to the Fresno Airport. I was too sick to go and I hated to miss it so bad. When they started sending pictures I hated it even more.

We have seen the grove of trees that General Grant stands in two or three times before but I do not think it was ever as pretty as Monday when Kelly Jo, Odie and Regan visited. They were there about 9:00 AM on a cool clear morning and the pictures are awesome. The sun rays in some of the pictures are almost unbelievable. They were all taken with KJ's iPhone 5.

Odie took some pictures as well and she will probably post them Saturday.

I think they arrived at the grove a trees at just the right time. Wow! What a picture below!

I hope you enjoyed the girls little tour through the corner of King's Canyon National Park. I sure enjoyed it through their pictures. We are not that far away and if we can get to feeling better it would be tempting to drive in from the south end like we did in 2009. That was a great drive.

California is an absolutely beautiful state and we are glad that Regan was able to see a little of it before she had to go back to Mississippi.
