A Word For Wednesday So Great Salvation by Bro. Bill Houston

A Word For Wednesday comes from something Bro. Bill Houston wrote and quoted for years. You can watch A Word For Wednesday on our YouTube channel.

I am not sure if Bro Bill called this a poem or what, but he refined it through the years. This is the version he was quoting about 20 years ago when he gave me a copy to type out and put on paper. He was constantly getting requests for it and he wanted something to hand to them.

Bro. Bill Houston was a great man of God, a tremendous evangelist, a dedicated servant and a faithful friend. He is missed by everyone that knew him well. I am thankful that we have some of his work to remember him.

We are so thankful that Sis. Houston is still with us. She is so sweet and kind and gentle. May God bless her with strength and health for many years to come.

I hope you enjoy A Word For Wednesday So Great Salvation. You can see the words as I read them below.

So-Great Salvation
II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

A Word For Wednesday-Apostle Paul

We recorded a revival service yesterday and published it last night.

Today at noon I am posting A Word For Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Once it is live and available, I will try to embed it here.

In this episode of A Word For Wednesday, I am talking a bit about Apostle Paul. In Leonard Ravenhill's book, "Meat For Men" there is an outline of Apostle Paul's life that really speaks to me.

Paul's life was an Exchanged life.

Paul's life was an Expensive life.

Paul's life was an Exciting life.

Paul's life was an Explicit/Earnest life.

Paul's life was an Exemplary life.

I love that! With some scriptures added to the outline, it made a nice Word For Wednesday. I hope you enjoy it. Please let us know if you are enjoying this series. It should be up by noon today. Thank you for dropping in.

A Word For Wednesday - God Is Faithful

 A Word For Wednesday

I have not been able to record A Word For Wednesday this week and I am fresh out of pre-recorded episodes. However, I do have a word on my heart today.

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Our God is faithful!
He is faithful in our trials.
He is faithful in our tests.
He is faithful in our temptations.
He is faithful in our sickness.
He is faithful in our sorrow.
He is faithful in our sadness.
He is faithful in our despair.
He is faithful in our despondency.
He is faithful in our depression.
He is faithful in our fear.
He is faithful when our foundation is crumbling.
He s faithful when our faith is stumbling.

God is faithful to His Word.
God is faithful to His Promises.
God is faithful to His Principles.
God is faithful to His Truth
God is faithful to His Children!

Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God

I am so thankful that God is faithful!

Thank you for stopping by today.

A Word For Wednesday - Svea Flood

I already had this episode of A Word For Wednesday recorded and ready to go, but I had not planned to publish it until next week. I had something completely different planned for today, but COVID changed that. There is no way I could record it now. Maybe next week.

I hope you enjoy this one. I am telling a true story that I have used for a sermon illustration. It touches me every time and I hope it speaks to you. This is the story of Svea Flood.

Let me know what you think here or on the YouTube comments.

Thank you for stopping by.

A Word For Wednesday - The Secret of The Scarecrow

Because of a schedule change, we have been having revival in the bus the last two nights.

Sometime between early this morning and 3:30 this afternoon, Monday night's revival video completely disappeared from YouTube and it says that I removed it! It is absolutely nowhere to be found and I have no idea where it went! Ugh!

I am checking into it, but so far I am finding nothing. Let us hope this does not become a regular occurrence.

A Word For Wednesday
Today is A Word For Wednesday and you will find it on our YouTube Channel as well.

I am telling a story that I read from F.W. Boreham many years ago. I love this story. I have used it in sermons probably dozens of times. I hope it speaks to you today.

Thank you for stopping by today.

A Word For Wednesday What Is True?

Welcome to A Word For Wednesday.

Have you noticed how much conflicting information is swirling around us lately? Wow! There are so many things flying under the flag of Christianity these days. Have you been paying attention to some of the prophecies, re-prophecies, amended prophecies, revised prophecies and retracted prophecies concerning COVID, vaccines, the election and the election aftermath?

This avalanche of "inside" information and breathless predictions confuses and a whole lot of thoughtful and serious Christians. It makes me a little sad.

Honestly, Brothers and Sisters, some things I am witnessing under the banner of Christianity embarrasses me. They draw some of the strangest conclusions and come up with some of the most hair-brained ideas and they make me a little distressed that we fly the same flag.

Are they all Christians? I think many of them are, but I sincerely do not have a clue! Thankfully, I do not have to decide who is a genuine Christian and who is not. I am not even interested in making that determination.

I do have to decide whether or not I will accept everything I hear or whether or not it is Biblical or even close.

Jesus warned us clearly
Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
And John repeated the warning.
I John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

I am not going to address specific prophecies or theories or ideas floating around at the moment.
I may do that later.
But we do have some responsibilities here.

As Christians, we should not be blown around by every new idea, concept or speculation.

Listen to this guiding principle.
Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

God expects us to grow up in Christ! Unifying faith that produces knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man to grow into the fullness of Christ!

Children will believe anything!

We convinced Odie that she was a Martian when she was about 8 years old. We told her that her skin had been dyed by a top-secret government project and IF she scratched herself too hard, she would find her original green skin.

She believed us. She was a child.

It is amazing how childish we can be in these perilous times.

We believe every sleight of men. We believe their cunning craftiness. We are tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine or every wind of information.

It seems like we strain for all we are worth to believe a Facebook lie, Twitter fable or YouTube fiction and refuse to believe the truth when it is written in black and white in the Bible.

We should not be so quick to believe every windy doctrine! To do so is immature, childish.

This is the will of God, friends

I Corinthians 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

We should not be so gullible, easily taken in, swallowing every wild idea we hear or read, hook line and sinker. As Christians, we should not be blown around by every new idea, concept or speculation.

What is true?
How do we detect truth and reject error?

I have been pondering some broad principles concerning some things that do not belong in Christianity.
If some of these things that we hear do not line up with these broad principles, then we can reject them without much consideration.

Here is the first one.
A super critical judgmental attitude has no place in Christianity.

We must use our own judgment every day all day.
-It is cold outside, I will wear a coat.
-The car is coming too fast, I will not walk across the street.
-That is a dangerous activity, I will participate in it.
-That person is a reckless driver, I will not let them drive my car.
-If I buy that, I will not be able to meet my financial obligations.

-That action is immoral or unbiblical, I will not do it.
-That person is a thief, I will not give them the key to my house or the combination to my safe.
-That person is controlled by an addicting and mind altering substance, I will not let them care for my children.
-That person is a rapist or child molester, I will not let them close to my family.
-That activity will bring filth into my mind, I will run from it.

It is necessary to use judgment in every area of our lives, but we must resist the very real possibility of falling into the trap of being super critical and judgmental about everything.

Kelly Jo and I work very diligently to avoid forming and spouting opinions about everyone and everything. This is where we learned that.

In our early married life, we were hanging around young couples that had strong negative opinions about everyone else. We noticed that when we left their presence, we felt filthy even though we had not contributed anything but our ears to the conversation.

Those early friendships were very precious to us, so we worked on changing their demeaning attitudes. Every time a name was mentioned we determined to jump out in front of the conversation by finding wonderful things to say about the person they were preparing to malign. Sometimes all we could say is, "They sure do whistle good!"

That worked for some and not for others, but the point is we purposed that we were not going to live as hyper critical people.

We have had to work hard on maintaining that position in life, because people love to judge and they love to tell everyone how accurate their judgment is.

We are ate up with that super critical judgmental attitude in our nation today and the church is caught up in it too. Everyone has an opinion and people that have a platform for that opinion are quick to shout it from the housetop and condemn every lowlife that dares to disagree with them.

Everyone is a Google doctor now.
It is amazing how many people in our churches know more about infections diseases than scientists and doctors that have studied the subject for many years.
Everyone is a military expert.
Everyone is an economic expert.
Everyone knows what is going on behind the scenes.
Everyone knows the intentions of everyone else.

And we are quick to condemn everyone but ourselves!

I have heard people that go by the label of Christianity that voted on both ends of the political spectrum in the recent election talk about how stupid and ungodly other people are because they voted differently than them.

Come on! Cut people some slack. Not everyone is evil! It is possible that people can think differently than you do and not be devil possessed!

A super critical judgmental attitude has no place in Christianity.

Hating people has no place in Christianity.

Go ahead and hate sin, hate the consequences of sin and even broccoli if you want, but hating people has no place in Christianity.

You must let go of your hate or let go of your Christian label. They will not coexist together.

There is so much hate in our nation. Hating people because they are a different color, a different culture or embrace a different philosophy of life is raging at this moment. The mantra throughout the summer and fall of 2020 and still ringing today is hate, hate, hate.

We as Christians can not answer that hate with hate in return. We are people of God. God is love. Hate does not, can not, will never mix with true Christianity.

We are probably about to experience hatred toward Christians and morality like we never have before in this country, but God's Word is still true. Listen,

I John 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

I John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Hating people has no place in Christianity.

Racism has no place in Christianity.

Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their racial or ethnic group is not Christian. It is anti-Christian. It is against Christ.

Please, please, please do not use your church or your Christianity or the Bible to justify racism in your life.

People of your skin color are not superior to people of another skin color, no matter what your skin color is! What in the world makes you believe that God favors white people or brown people or black people or purple people.

It is the height of arrogance to believe that God has elevated people that look like me to be supreme over people that do not look like me. Not one person is better than any other person because of the color of their skin. That is ridiculous!

God has never declared his love and allegiance to a specific color of people. God created people in His image and if you are prejudiced against anyone, then you are hating on God's creation.

God loves people! Hear that! God loves people!

God sent His son to die for people. When you look down your nose at people because of the color of their skin, you are ignoring that God made them in His own image and that Christ paid the penalty for their sin just like He did for you!

Racism has no place in Christianity.

This is certainly not an exhaustive list and is not intended to be. But we have to have somewhere to begin to sort all of this information overload.

What in the world are we supposed to believe?

Well, it is not God's will for us to believe everything and I believe we can reject information that comes from a place of hate, racism, violence and a super critical sensibility.

We can reject those things without a second thought. At least maybe that is a place to begin.

That is our Word for Wednesday. Thank you for joining us.

A Word For Wednesday (2)

Welcome to A Word For Wednesday. You can read the text below and or watch the video version on our YouTube Chanel https://youtube.com/c/boggsfamilyministries

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

I wrote yesterday about spending a few days in Vonore, Tennessee with Jeff Rowe at East Tennessee Luxury Coach. I typed the following paragraph and my mind has been pondering it ever since.

The BoggsMobile is a 1995 Prevost XL built in early 95. It was converted over the next several months into a motorhome in Sanford, Florida and is titled as a 1996. We are the third owner and we purchased it in March 2008.

I am a firm believer that the God we serve is all knowing AND that our God has a plan for us that we are mostly ignorant about. We have no way of knowing what lies ahead and we can not be faulted for that.

However, God does know.

In 1994 a businessman in California was shopping for a bus/motorhome. For reasons only he knows, he decides to order an empty bus shell from Prevost like he wanted it and then shop the conversion to several converters. It is exactly reverse from the way it is usually done, but that was his route.

The bus shell was built and delivered in early 1995 to Featherlite in Sanford, Florida. It was converted over the course of that year and finished in late 95. It was titled as a 1996 Prevost Vantare and delivered to the purchaser.

He keeps it and drives it a few years and then he sells it or trades it away. The second owner was a businessman in Texas. He keeps it a few years and then trades it on a newer used bus at Florida Luxury Coach about 1/2 from where it was converted in Sanford, Florida.

The bus sits on that lot for a year or so before we notice it and begin a months long process of lowball offers and rejections until they finally call me and offer to sell it for my original offer.

We drive to Sanford, look it over and make another offer. They reject that with a counteroffer that we accept. Later that week we drive away with white knuckles, frazzled nerves and a fearful heart.

The rest is history and has been well documented here on Mile Markers.

This is what I have been pondering since I wrote the italicized paragraph way up the page.

While OUR bus was being planned, purchased, converted and delivered, what were we doing in 1994-1996? I did not know a thing about what was going on in California and Sanford, Florida. I could not have even dreamed I would need a bus or own a bus years later.

In 1994 and early 1995 I was working as a trim carpenter and electrician for a contractor in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. We were renting the ground floor of an old house in Franklin, Ohio and in March of 1995, we rented a two bedroom house in the country near Miamisburg, Ohio.

Work was steady enough to keep our bills paid and we were trying to save toward purchasing a house. We were living week to week, working lots of hours, going to church faithfully and trying to keep our head above water both financially and emotionally.

I had no idea or even dreams that we would evangelize again. It was not even on the radar. As far as I could envision, I would be right there in Dayton, Ohio, enjoying life and working in our home church 30 years later.

In April 1995 I hired in at GM in Dayton, working on the assembly line at Truck and Bus. At times, I dared to think I might work there until I retired someday.

While the BoggsMobile was being converted I was filling Blazers, Jimmys and Bravadas with transmission fluid, putting on wheel coverings, pinstripes, adjusting headlights and driving them off the line.

This what I want you to see.
God knew we would find this bus.
God knew we would purchase this bus.
God knew we would drive this bus hundreds of thousands of miles.
God knew we would live in this bus and love this bus.
God knew this bus would be home.
He knew it would be the ultimate BoggsMobile.

I did not have a clue. I was too busy working. I was too busy trying to keep up. I was too busy living life and fulfilling my obligations in the moment.

While I was busy, God was preparing something for me that would be a tremendous blessing to me and my family.

Did the original owner see that?

Did Prevost in Canada see that?

Did Featherlite in Sanford, Florida see that?

Did I see that?

No, No, No and No!

But, I can see it clearly now!

This is what I want you to take away from this. It is entirely possible that God is working blessings in my life and that God is working blessings in your life that you and I know absolutely nothing about right now.

We are busy trying to keep our heads above water. We are completely involved in the here and now and that is absolutely OK. We are working, we are struggling, we are striving to make it through today and tomorrow and next week.

Hey! That is fine. That is what it takes. We are in a pandemic. We are in unprecedented times. We have never walked this road before. We are dealing with sickness and death in ways we have not experienced in our lives.

It is OK for us to be preoccupied with today, with here and now. That is understandable.

But, please, please, believe me, friend! It is entirely possible and highly probable that God is working a plan right now for blessings to come to you and to me in our future!

You can not see it.

I can not see it.

Other people involved can not see it.

But God sees it! He knows the end from the beginning. In your difficulty, God is working. In your despair, God is working. In your darkest hour, God Is Still Working.

Even when you can not see it. Even when you have not dreamed it. Even when you can not imagine it. God is working right now and His work NOW will be manifested in you life at a later date! Hallelujah!

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

A Word For Wednesday (1)

Today is the first in what is hopefully a series I am calling A Word For WednesdaySome weeks it may be a sermon, a sermon excerpt a sermon illustration or anything else considered "preachy". I am a preacher after all.😊

These posts may be written text within the post or in video format. Today's A Word For Wednesday post is a video I recorded a few weeks ago. At nearly 29 minutes in length, it is a touch longer than I intend these to be, but it is still a learning process for me.

Please extend a little grace to me and check this out. I am reading an old sermon and loving every second of it. This particular sermon brought me under conviction and I wanted to be generous and share.

It is from The Keswick Week 1965. The sermons is called "Two Complimentary Characteristics of Sin" by K. F. W. Prior. Give it a few minutes to grow on you and share if you like it.

Please let me know IF you like this and would be interested in more videos like it. IF you Never want to hear anything like this again, feel free to gently let me know that too.😁

Thank you for stopping in, friend. Do not be a stranger, come back soon.

Vintage View Vednesday Tent Revival, Elba, AL 2012

I found some wonderful pictures in the dusty archives today that bring a great big smile to my face. These pictures are from tent revival in Elba, Alabama with Pastor Jon Isaacs and the great folks from Grace Fellowship.

We love Bro. Jon and his family and that makes it super easy to love all the folks from the church they pastor. We had a wonderful week of tent revival in September 2012 and I do not think I will ever forget some of the awesome experiences that week.

I hope you enjoy strolling and scrolling through Vintage View Vednesday. I have an announcement for you at the end of this post.

We have been posting Vintage View Vednesday nearly every week for quite a while. Vintage View began in January 2018 and this is post number 137 in this series. We may publish some more of Vintage View, but I am going to try a new series on Wednesdays as well.

The new series will begin the first Wednesday of 2020, January 6 and we are calling it A Word For Wednesday. As the name suggests, the new series will lean toward spiritual things, God's Word rather than my word. Some of our most-read posts on Mile Markers are posts where I veer into the preaching lane and I love to do it.

Rather than preaching taking over the whole website, I am giving it space on Wednesdays. Some weeks I may post some sermons notes or sermons thoughts or a sermon illustration. Some weeks it may be in print and other weeks it may be in video format on YouTube. Some weeks it may be both.

The first week is already recorded on video. I plan to post it on January 6. I sat down and read a whole sermon that spoke to me and impacted me deeply. Reading a whole sermon will probably be rare, but I would love to have your honest and kind feedback.

We will see how it goes and probably insert some Vintage View Wednesdays in occasionally. I really do value your thoughts.

Thank you for joining us today.

Davy
