The House For Odie and Christ Ambassadors Holiness Church

As I mentioned a week or two ago Bro. Shobanke has been in the states the last three weeks. He was only with us from a Tuesday afternoon until Friday morning but it was great to have him. While he is in the USA we can talk on the phone for free and he usually calls each day.

This visit he has been calling to inquire about the progress on the house. "How is the work?" he says, and he laughs a big hearty laugh when I tell him whatever we have been doing that day. He thinks it is vital to complete this house for Odie to live in and he is extremely excited about it.

He came to Ohio the week he did specifically to see the walls go up on the house. He sat in a chair and smiled all day long and loved each and every single minute of it.

We took a few pictures of him in the house his last morning in Ohio before Kelly Jo took him to Cincinnati to catch his plane.

We were in Nigeria in November. When I told Bro. Shobanke that we were going to try to build the house he immediately wanted to help. His church gave the first $220 toward the house. Since the wages for the average worker in Abeokuta is $30-$50 per MONTH, $220 is a huge sacrificial gift! That is like a church here giving an offering equivalent to 4-7 months of the average monthly wage of the congregation.

To say we were shocked and amazed at the size of their gift would be a huge understatement. The people of Christ Ambassadors Holiness Church stepped up and proved their love for us and especially for Odie in an astounding way.

The economy in Nigeria is pitiful right now and their money is nearly worthless. It is difficult for us in America to realize how bad it is for them at the moment. The poorest of most of us are rich in comparison to the average Nigerian. We have been asking God to bless Bro. Shobanke's people with work that will supply the needs of their families and even for a turn around in their economy.

Will you help us pray for them? We are believing God to make up the difference and even give an abundance in return. They have given cheerfully in spite of their want and it humbles us to know that many of them probably lacked in things they needed. because they gave. We do not deserve that and we do not expect that.

Bro. Shobanke gave $250 more when he arrived in the USA about three weeks ago. We tried our very best to politely refuse the gift but he was adamant. He said that God spoke to him to give and that he was happy to do so.

I stand amazed at the provision of God. We have been recipient of the widow's mite and have no way to properly say thank you. God knows that our hearts are grateful and truly appreciative.

This is an amazing journey. Thank you for joining us.

House Update Pictures June 6, 2017

It is time for a few pictures of the progress on the house. Thursday evening while we were in church at Dryden Rd. a roofer came and put the synthetic felt on the roof. We needed that on before we could officially begin wiring the house for electric.

My brother Steve captured some of the action.

Dad said there were five of them working and they knocked it out in short order. However, it rained pretty hard Monday afternoon and it leaked inside. I am not sure what is up with that. I thought that maybe the high winds blew the felt off.

From the ground it looks fine but I am the novice here. I am not sure what to expect. The roof will not be installed until the last week of June so I guess we will have to deal with it.

Friday I purchased most of the supplies for the electrical. We hung the boxes Friday and Saturday and began hanging the can lights.

Odie has had a steady stream of visitors since we began construction. These are long time family friends that attend Dodds Church next door. She did not even offer to let them sit on her couch!😀

Jerry and Linda Neeley.

Monday we hung the can lights above the porches and wired all of them. Dad also did some wiring inside.

Dad and I decided we could still do this for a living but would end up making about .25 cents an hour. We will chip away at it a little at a time and soon it will be wired.

I told Odie that it would be easier to use candles and kerosene lanterns. We might could even by some cheap flashlights for emergencies. For some reason she is pretty partial to electrical receptacles, lights and genuine light switches all over the place.

She also thinks indoor plumbing is important with a septic system and all. She has been living in an RV for 15 years so what is the big deal? I could show her how to empty holding tanks but she is not interested in having that feature in the house.

This new generation wants to have it all I guess. Next thing you know she will want something besides a wood stove for heat!

That is it for today. Thank you for tuning in.

Weekend Woundup and Weview #23

We had a completely churchy weekend and that is exactly how we like it! We also slipped in some work on the house and that filled in the weekend quite nicely. It probably over filled the weekend because it sure felt good to crawl into bed last night!

Friday night was Youth Rally in Sharonville Ohio. There was a good representation from the local churches and we really had a good service. The young folks responded really well in the altar and that is what it is all about! I appreciate Pastor Randy Brown giving me the opportunity to preach Youth Rally. It was quite a joy.

This is Pastor Steven Allen and his wife Sarah. We will be preaching revival for them in New Miami, Ohio beginning on June 13th.

Dad and I started hanging boxes and can lights Saturday. We plan to finish that today and begin running wire

We were back in revival service Saturday night. Deidre is home for a few days and she went with us. It was wonderful to have her with us again.

The services Saturday night and Sunday morning were outstanding. I am excited to see what God has in store for us the next three nights. We love being in Sharonville, Ohio!

Pastor Randy Brown and Davy

The Sharonville Church had to attend a wake Sunday evening so they had to cancel Sunday night service. Pastor Brown mentioned to some of the local Pastors Friday night that we would not be having church and one of them invited us right on the spot.

That is how we came to be at Springdale Rd. Pentecostal Church for service Sunday night. It has been quite a few years since we had been there and it was good to see all the people. We have known many of these folks for over 35 years.

We appreciate Pastor Miller and his folks for receiving us so kindly and for responding to our singing and preaching.

That pretty much wraps up our weekend. Thanks for reading today.
