Tent Generator Project

I mentioned on the blog back in September that Bro. Carroll Walters from First Assembly in Richton, Mississippi had donated a good size generator to Boggs Family Ministries for City Reach. He purchased it to use back in 2005 when Katrina hit and he had used it very little if any since then. He cleaned it up, changed the oil and filters, adjusted the valves and had it completely checked out.

Here is a picture of it the day it was brought to the tent in Richton. We really, really appreciate Bro. Walters gift.

It is a tremendous gift and has already been a blessing during tent revivals. You may notice in the picture above that it had two 110 plugs and one 220 plug. Both the 110 and 220 plugs were protected by small push in fuses and you could not use both without blowing them. The generator produces plenty of amps but they were not all usable That was not uncommon in generators from that time.

Generators now have several circuits and are much more versatile. I decided back in September to rewire this one but I knew I would have to wait until I could get back down in the south where the generator was stored in the tent trailer.

I purchased the parts while in Ellisville, Mississippi and started on it that week. I finished it up last Friday in Livingston, Texas and it ended up pretty good. The boxes are surface mounted but do not stick out as far as the wheels so I think it will be OK.

There are two 15 amp breakers and two 20 amp breakers and I retained the 220 plug as well. Bro. Walters also gave me a 220 pigtail that divides in to 100 circuits too. That will allow us to run everything under the tent and properly use the amps produced by the generator.

There is something to do nearly every day in the tent trailer and spending time in there makes me want to get the tent out and get to preaching! We are excited about what the Lord is going to do under the tent this year and beyond.

A Glitch at Golden Corral

I think there is a computer glitch at Golden Corral. We stopped at Golden Corral in Baton Rouge on my 49th birthday on our way to Mississippi after the dedication service in Pine Prairie, Louisiana. You may remember we stopped at the same Golden Corral on our way through the day before.

Well, all was normal on Friday but I noticed something different about our bill on Saturday January 16, 2016. Do you notice the anything strange about the bill?

They charged us for one buffet and gave us a discount for two senior buffets on my 49th birthday! I did not realize it until we were nearly finished eating. We thought it was hilarious and we got a good kick out of it. I took a picture of the receipt so I could post it but I forgot all about it.

I forgot until we stopped at Golden Corral north of Houston this last Saturday. We were nearly finished eating our lunch again when I noticed they had done it again. The senior lunch buffet discount was 60 cents and they gave it to us again.

I guess I must look extremely older since I turned 49 OR they have a microchip implanted in all old folks and I set the alarm off when I walk in the door. If that is the case, then the chip readers at the Houston Golden Corral AND the Baton Rouge Golden Corral are malfunctioning. We checked the sign on the way out and the senior discount starts at age 60!

Something needs to be re calibrated. Until they fix it, I guess I will enjoy the discount!

#5 Weekend Woundup and Weview

Friday started early for me. I had all my morning routine completed and I was on my way to Walmart by 6:30 to have the oil changed in the Green Machine. I wanted to be first in line and I was. I had a Walmart gift card to use for the oil change but I ended up finding $30 worth of stuff I could not live with out. My "free" oil change cost me $30!

That reminds me of spending the night parked at Walmart in Lumberton, Texas last Sunday. We parked for "free" and walked inside and spent $50! So much for free stuff.

Speaking of free, gasoline is almost free. This is the least I have paid in many, many years. We saw it even cheaper than that going through Houston on Saturday.

It does not take much to fill up the Green Machine at all. At $1.46 per gallon I am tempted to pump a few gallons on the ground just for fun. Of course, all our friends that depend on the oil business to make a living are not laughing. There has got to be a happy medium some where.

After the oil change and gasoline fill up at Walmart I stopped by Lowe's. I needed an item or two in order to finish up a project I started in Ellisville. I worked on that till lunch time and finished it up. I will try to post about that later.

One of the families from church brought lunch on Friday and it was fabulous.

Friday afternoon some friends stopped in to visit for a few minutes. Greg and Jan White are full time RVers and they winter in the Houston area near their children and grandchildren. They were in Livingston Friday and made an effort to spend some time with us. It was very nice of them to do so.

Greg writes a daily blog that I read and we first met them in person about 18 months ago. They were in Ohio then and we took them and another couple to Acapulco. Where else would I take some one in Ohio, right?

It was great to see them again. Hopefully we will see them again soon and have time for a longer visit.

Friday night we finished revival with a wonderful service. We sure appreciate Pastor Don Goodwin and all of his folks for inviting us to be with them. May God bless them for all of their kindness and hospitality.

We cranked up Saturday morning, hooked up to the tent trailer and began the short but treacherous trip to Sweeny. It was short because it was only about 150 miles. It was treacherous because we had to drive across Houston. Wow! That was hard on my nerves!

I knew that Houston can be very busy but I figured Saturday morning might be passable. I figured completely wrong. Saturday morning might be better than a weekday but it was very crowded and very hectic. I slowed down and crept along for miles keeping the BoggsMobile and the tent trailer under control the whole way through.

We did find a Golden Corral on the north side of town and stopped in for a bite of lunch. The place was completely packed out! It turns out they were having a conceal carry class in the Golden Corral and there were probably 100 people taking it. I love Texas!

Soon we were pulling into Sweeny and Pastor Larry Lamb was helping us get pulled in and parked.

Saturday evening I had my annual conference call board meeting with the board of Boggs Family Ministries. It went well as usual. I have great board members and I am thankful that Bro. John Eaton and Bro. Kurt McCrorey are willing to help us. Getting that meeting behind me means I am finished with most of the accounting and book work that must be completed in December and January. Praise the Lord.

We began revival yesterday at Full Gospel Lighthouse. This is one of the churches we first came to over 25 years ago when we evangelized in the early 90's. Pastor Larry Lamb and his folks have been so good to us through the years and coming here is like coming home in many ways.

We had two great services to get started Sunday. Please pray that God will help us the next five nights. I would love to see a bunch of folks get saved in this revival. We know that God is able.

Godly Heroes: Pastor David and Sis. Genell Webb

Hello Friends, it is Odie checking in from Texas. Can you believe we are at the end of January? It seems like time is flying by so fast! We have had a wonderful week in Livingston, Texas with Pastor Don Goodwin and his church. The Lord visited us In a mighty way each service at Beech Creek Assembly! I am so thankful for His sweet presence the can dwell with us and help us. 

Godly Heroes 

I have always been taught to have Godly heroes instead of heroes of this world. It might be ok to look at the world's "heroes" and think he or she does their job well but do not place confidence in them. It is a huge blessing to be surrounded by awesome Godly people in my life. 

There are some special people who stand out as heroes to me. Two that fit that category are Pastor David and Sis. Genell Webb

 

We were just with the Webb family again recently in Pine Prairie, Louisiana at Christian Tabernacle. It was so good to be with them and to see them again. I was reminded again of how great an influence they have had on my life and I want to honor them for that.

The Webbs along with their 4 super children live in Hodgenville, Kentucky. They pastor Hodgenville Pentecostal Church. I appreciate their burden to reach the lost and to encourage everyone to live for God. They have impacted my life tremendously. One of the other ministries they are involved in is The Pentecostal  Fire Youth Conference. 

Pastor David Webb is a man of God who is unashamed to stand for Holiness. Every time I hear him preach he delivers the word of the Lord that I need. He is compassionate and strong and inspires me and many others to live for God.

Sis. Genell Webb is a Godly woman that I  look up to very much. I know she lives her life sold out to God. She has set a great pattern to follow as a wife, mother, in ministry and as a friend. I really, really appreciate her example. Sis. Genell is a truly a classy lady. 

I am thankful for the privilege to call the Webbs my friends. They have blessed me by their lives personally and by their ministry. I admire their commitment to God and I am thankful for their Godly example. 

It has been said your life is an open book for anyone to read. That is very true. People are watching our lives and following our examples whether we realize it or not. I want to strive to be a consistent Christian, not only for myself and my relationship to God, but for others who are watching. 

I am thankful for Godly heroes who lead the way and set the example for me! I would rather look to people like Bro. and Sis. Webb than to famous people in sports, entertainment or others in pop culture. Thank God for people with integrity and a heart to follow God with all they have. They are great heroes!

Revival In Pictures - Livingston, Texas

Yesterday's post generated quite a bit of excitement and we are thankful for all the folks that are going to be praying about the possibility of having a City Reach in Queens New York City. We certainly do not know the end result of our visit there in a few weeks but we are excited to explore the options and watch God work.

We have had a wonderful week in Livingston, Texas at Beech Creek Assembly with Pastor Don Goodwin and all of his fine folks. The altar services have been phenomenal and we give God all the glory! Praise God for His wonderful help and encouragement in the services. We have one more revival service tonight and we are really looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us.
