Odie's Deer Song

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking from Moore, Oklahoma. We are having a fabulous time with our friends a Crosslight! There are still three more services of revival and I am expecting God to move in each service.

Do you remember when I shared about the True Lure No Kill Deer hunt that I experienced last month? You can read all about my amazing hunt by clicking here

I told in my previous post about my deer "Lazarus". Below is a picture of me and my Uncle Danny Morgan with Lazarus. Uncle Danny named him Lazarus, for he was only sleeping. The deer would rise again. Lazarus was snoring away during this picture.

Our friend Terry Cummins read my post about the deer hunt and he and was inspired. Terry remembered the song My name is Lazarus that was made popular by Greater Vision.

Click here to hear the original Greater Vision song on YouTube. This was released in back 1999. I know most southern gospel fans will remember this Greater Vision classic penned by Rodney Griffin. This song has a good message.

Odie's Deer Song
Terry felt a new 2021 version of the song needed to be written about the deer, Lazarus. Terry called on Bro. Brandon Brown for help. Soon My Name Is Lazarus (Odie) took shape.

All of this transpired without my knowledge. Later I was listening to Terry and Bro. Jimmie Radcliffe as they were discussing Bro. Brandon Brown's new song. That is when I was introduced to My Name Is Lazarus (Odie).

Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard! The song greatly depicts the details of my hunt. I also love that there is a little imagination thrown in for good storytelling. I think this is hilarious and had to share it with you today! Click here to hear the soundtrack to the original song on Youtube. That is the tune the song should be sung or read in.

My Name Is Lazarus(Odie)

One day, four deer stood on the edge of a clearing
They had just awoken and got out of bed
Fear gripped their heart and suspiciously were looking
Still they were hungry and longed to be fed

Now we don't know much about these bucks that worried
In West Portsmith Ohio that day
But if we may create an illustration
We'll see what these, stags might have had to say

Suppose that first buck said, I hate to doubt it
That pile of sweet corn is quite a find
It looks delicious there's no doubt about it
But there’s a smell of fried chicken coming from that blind

Suppose that second buck said It could be hunters
We might be risking injury or becoming maimed
Although our numbers seem to be increasing
So I don't believe that some of them can aim

Suppose that third buck said I hate to question
But I have heard some strange conspiracies
They shoot you with a dart & then cut off your antlers
And pose with your body as you snore in your sleep

Then every eye was turned toward the fourth buck
A tag that said 19 hung upon his ten point rack
But all three deer were startled with amazement
When he began to tell the story of his attack

Chorus

He said My name is Lazarus could I testify
My name is Lazarus, I’m lucky to be alive
I barely escaped the kiss of death
That corn nearly caused me to take my last breath
If you think that pile of food is worth your head on a wall
Take it from the one who's been shot by Odie Boggs
A living testimony of this death-defying hunt my name is Lazarus

That is the story of my True Lure No Kill Deer Hunt in song. I was hunting for dear number 19 that we named Lazarus. My hunt was successful and Lazarus lives to sing about the experience. LOL

Now the 2021 Odie Version holds a special meaning to me. Here is another connection to the original song and my deer hunt. I had to be carried on a cot by four people to get to my sleeping deer. I actually told them to carry me to Jesus while I was laying on the cot.😂

This is a picture of me and Terry Cummins. Terry, Thanks for coming up with this idea. You crack me up! Thank you for being a wonderful friend!

This is Bro. Brandon Brown and his wife Sis. Rebecca. Bro. Brandon, thanks for penning these lyrics! Your piece of art blesses me! I know it will continue to bring joy to many people.

Thanks for visiting with me today. I hope that I was able to bring a smile to your face today! I look forward to seeing you back here next Saturday.

What's Up Weekend? 9/7/2020

We do not have phone signal in the BoggsMobile this week, but we do have internet inside the church. It seems to be allowing us to upload some pictures and publish to Mile Markers.

What's Up, Weekend? Our weekend began early Friday morning in Vonore, Tennessee as we prepared to roll the wheels toward Alabama. We pulled out of East Tennessee Luxury Coach about 7:30. We did have two small bus glitches Friday morning that were totally unrelated to our recent bus problems. One of them Jeff was able to diagnose and quickly repair. The other glitch fixed itself.

When a bus glitch fixes itself it is either a blessing, scary or both. Anyway, we rolled down the highway with very little problem most of the day.

We stopped to check things on the bus a few times and we also stopped twice to do the work of the evangelist. What is the work of the evangelist?

Draining the holding tanks.

Filling the diesel tank.

We landed for the day at Flying J in Hope Hull, Alabama at exit 158 on I-65. They have several RV spots in the front and we have parked overnight there before.

It was only 150 more miles to the church in St. Stephens, Alabama, but we stopped early for a few reasons. Even though we had only driven 335 miles, it was enough for the day. Plus, we needed to record a service for Nigeria and get it posted on YouTube.

We did that Friday evening and had a wonderful time.

When the service was over, I was in bed in the blink of an eye. I was fast asleep before 9:00 Central and stayed in bed for seven hours. Wow! That felt terrific! I should be able to run at warp speed for a week or two. (Yeah, right! That did not seem to last long.)

By God's grace, we finished the trip to Midway Assembly near St. Stephens, Alabama with no problems at all. It was wonderful to see our dear friends, Pastor Lamar Chapman and Sis. Tonya again.

The first thing we had to do after we parked was wash the love bugs from the front of the bus. These are twice a year pests in the gulf states, at least, and they are a mess. We ran into them the last 75-80 miles of our trip Saturday. I mean we literally ran into them, by the thousands. Ugh!

You have to wash these monsters quickly. Something in their nasty little bodies will eat through older paint if left on for days. The little cannibals were crawling all over the front of the bus eating the remains of their dear departed loved ones. KJo and I removed them all, dead and alive.

Sunday was Homecoming at Midway. Homecoming during a pandemic is necessarily a different thing, but it was still a joyous occasion! Pastor Lamar Chapman and his folks are still adhering to strict COVID 19 protocol and we are completely comfortable with that.

There was no Homecoming meal, but Sis. Tonya Chapman prepared a meal for us, her family and for Bro. and Sis. Odom visiting from Florida.

We enjoyed the meal and the fellowship very much. Before long, it was time for church Sunday evening. We had another wonderful service Sunday night, but I spoke to soon about loading pictures. I  had trouble getting them to load after church. Maybe I will have a few more later.

This is what we have now.

These are Odie's from Saturday night and Sunday morning.

That wraps up the weekend. Thank you for dropping in.

Weekend Woundup and Weview June 4, 2018

The weekend began with me waiting for the inspector to make a return visit to the house. Once that was over, we kicked into a whirlwind of activity and we kept up a pretty good pace until Sunday night. That is what we have come to expect and I imagine nearly everyone lives life that way. It was a great weekend.

I was hoping the inspector would finish early Friday, but he was a little late getting around to us. Once he arrived he stayed and talked about 45 minutes to an hour. He gave us a passing grade on the final inspection, hit the road to his next appointment and we kicked it into high gear.

We had planned to be in Nashville Friday afternoon, but those plans changed with the failed inspection on Thursday. With that change, Friday afternoon and evening became a furniture grabbing and moving day.

Steve and Karen brought a few pieces of beautiful old furniture for Odie to use until she buys more. They brought these tan pieces and the lamp. They are not exactly the "look" Odie is going for, but I think they are beautiful and classy.

We made a trip to IKEA. Odie purchased three chairs and a bed platform with drawers. She has had her eye on it for a while and it was time to pull the trigger. She bought the yellow chair below and two of the blue chairs.

The chairs were easy to assemble but the bed was a bear! Dad and I started putting the it together and then Karen, KJ and mom joined us. It was quite a job!

It has four huge drawers which is exactly what Odie wanted.

We had two mattresses that make up a queen size that we had taken out of the BoggsMobile about two years ago. Odie is going to use those for now until she can decide what kind of mattress to purchase. We hated to buy one in a rush and get the wrong one.

We put the mattresses on the newly constructed bed and then Kelly Jo, Karen and Mom put on Odie's new bedding.

It is beautiful and matches her accent wall perfectly.

After we took these pictures Friday night I sat down in the blue chair and cried. My heart was full of joy and gratitude!

I took this picture Saturday morning with the BoggsMobile in the background.

Odie has a navy blue couch picked out and will order it soon. This will do nicely for now.

Here is Odie Saturday morning after her first official night in her new home. She is packed and ready to hit the road after one night "at home." I am afraid she will have to get used to her new home in short snatches!😁

We left the Ranch at 10:00 AM and pulled into the hotel in Madison Heights, Michigan 253 miles and nearly 4 hours later.

We met Pastor Johnson George and Sis. Binu at a Japanese Buffet at 5:00 and then we were off to his church for service at 7:00.

We were thrilled to see our friends and we were thrilled to have family there as well. Steve and Karen came to Michigan to be with us!  They ate dinner with us and attended both services. It is a blessing to have them every time!

This was our first visit to this International Assembly of God in Warren, Michigan and we loved being there. We knew no one from the church, but Pastor Johnson George and his wife, Sis. Binu, however the people responded wonderfully. God blessed in the altar services. Wow! It was tremendous.

I love meeting God's people all over the world. The church embraced us so warmly and made us feel completely at home worshiping, singing and preaching. I believe we have made some more life long friends.

Sunday Morning

We had great fellowship after the service Sunday morning and then enjoyed another meal with Bro. Johnson, Sis. Binu and Steve and Karen. It was sad to say goodbye and leave our friends. It finally had to be done and we started home on our 270 mile journey.

The trip home was a little more complicated since at least two interstates have sections closed in Detroit, including several miles of I-75 south. Once we worked around that it was smooth sailing all of the way.

We pulled into the Lazy OD Ranch before 9:30 Sunday night and called it a full and blessed day from the Lord.

That wraps up our weekend. Thank you for going with us.
