Jack Fell Down

Jack fell down and broke his crown. Some of you may remember the tooth trauma I had in 2015. They finally got the to the "root" of the problem in late July or early August and then I had a crown put on toward the end of 2015, about two years ago. I invested a lot in a root canal and two crowns.

One third of that investment crumbled Monday evening when the crown on the root canal tooth shattered into a million pieces. I broke my crown without even falling down.

I called my dentist near home Tuesday morning but found no love. IF I could have went in the next day they might have been able to get the crown back by the end of the first week of January when we will driving to Louisiana. IF we rush home and go in next Thursday the 21st, they may have the crown the second or third week of January after we are long gone.

I am not inclined to cancel revival(s) for the privilege of re-paying for re-work.

I seriously considered driving to Nogales, Mexico south of Tuscon. Arizona Dental has great reviews and can complete crowns in one day. They do the Cerec one day crowns and it is cutting edge technology. (Thanks to Bro. Bruce Mayhan that told us about the possibility of one day crowns with Cerec.)

We nixed that idea when we realized Nogales is 3 hours one way with no traffic. That would make it nearly impossible to spend the day at the dentist, drive 6+ hours total and be back in time for revival.

KJ found a place nearby here that does the Cerec one day crowns. I will be going there this morning to see if my tooth is a good candidate for the process.

I am not looking forward to any of it but I need to get this taken care of. The tooth feels razor sharp against my tongue and the inside of my jaw. I will let you know how it goes.

Dentist Visit Update:

I have good news and I have bad news from my dentist visit.

Good News: I did not have to spend $1100 for a new crown.

Bad News: I did not get to spend $1100 for a new crown. 

What? The tooth is broken and can not be saved. Ouch!

A New Mile Marker Feature

After the first of the year we are going to begin a new feature on Mile Markers. I am going to give you a small preview of it today. Let me know what you think.

I have been sorting through some pictures from our old computers the last few weeks. I have realized we have a treasure trove of pictures. Well, they may not be a treasure to everyone but they are to us. It has been really neat to see these pictures and remember some of the great times we have had and the great people we have been privileged to meet.

We used to post pictures at our original website www.davykellyandodie.com. Bro. David Johnston built and maintains that website for us. It served us well for years and gave us a place to post pictures and news. Some of you have been with us since the beginning of that site. 

Through the years we posted many, many hundreds of pictures there. It was always a multi-step process to post on the website and it was very difficult to post at times without a really good signal. Signal was hard to come by on the road then and really good signal was pert near impossible. Sometimes we went months without posting any pictures. 

In November 2009 we began this site on Blogger. We were leaving for our second trip to Nigeria and I was looking for a way to post pictures in real time for folks back home. While searching the internet, I ran across Blogger and within hours, I was set up and ready to go.

This was the first picture I posted here.

Of course, long time loyal readers recognize that picture as a Double Big Daddy from Ron's Hamburgers and Chili! Wow! You can still see that post HERE.

The experiment with this site from Nigeria sealed the deal. It was very easy to add pictures and to stay in touch with everyone. We soon moved our Mile Marker updates here and began posting all our pictures here as well.

Over time we had several hacks at www.davykellyandodie.com and I had Bro. David Johnston take down the pictures there. That site is a static information only page and eventually we will point that address here.

Many of the pictures I have been going through the last few weeks were posted at some point on our original website. Some of the pictures have never been posted any where. 

Here is a very small sample spanning several years and a few states. Do you recognize anyone?

I am going to try to post a few pictures each Wednesday until we run out of pictures or interest, whichever comes LAST.😏 We may call the new feature Vintage View Wednesday or in a hat tip to our German friends Wintage Wiew Vednesday. What do you think?

The Re-building of The Church In Abeokuta Is Complete!

I first told you back in the summer about one of the churches in Abeokuta, Nigeria having to be demolished. They discovered it was very near collapse so it had to come down. This is one of Bro. Shobanke's branch churches.

We have visited and preached in this building many times and it was very sad to see it coming down.

It was sad for me, but much worse for the Pastors and people that gather to worship there every week. When they watched the building being taken down they had no guarantee it would be built again in a timely manner at all.

We were able very quickly to send an offering with the help of churches and individuals and the work to rebuild was started right away. Others jumped on board and rapid progress of the construction was the result.

Bro. Shobanke told me in late October that he intended to dedicate the church in early December but it seemed impossible to me. This past Saturday afternoon they dedicated the new church. It is completed and it is debt free!

I am so happy that the church is completed and that there is no debt. I have talked to Bro. Shobanke twice since the dedication and to say that he is thrilled is an understatement to the extreme. He is praising God for the speedy re-building of the church with no debt and we are echoing that praise unto God as well. Bro. Shobanke says, "It is a miracle" and indeed it is!

Thank you for praying for the congregation that meets in this building and the school children from GoodNews Christian School that use this building as well. Thank you to those who were able to send an offering too. May God bless each and every one of you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. 

It is amazing that most of you will never meet these children of God while we live on earth. Yet, you feel a kinship with them and a willingness to help them. That is because we are family. We are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ! Thank you, friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Weekend Woundup and Weview #50

Has anyone noticed that my weekend count is off? Last's week's Weekend Woundup and Weview was labeled #50. Since the year started on Sunday and ends on Sunday I should have 53 of these posts and I was on track to have 54.

Oops!

How in the world did that happen? Back in the summer I skipped #32 without realizing it.😊 This post is the second #50 and that puts me back on track.😁

The whole weekend has been exciting. The weather has been excellent. The drive from California to Arizona was relatively easy. The revival services have been exceptional. And the fellowship with our super friends has been extraordinary.

We finished revival in Bloomington, California Friday night with a great service. Pastor Deatherage exhorted for a while during song service and made an altar call. The people responded well in the altar and prayed until about 8:30. He turned it to me to sing and preach and they responded good to the second altar call too.

We certainly appreciate Pastor John Deatherage and his family and church for receiving us so well. May God bless them for their kindness.

We probably should have left Bloomington Friday night after church while the road was clear. We can navigate the back entrance of the church but not if there are cars parked one the side of the street in the wrong places. Late Friday night the street was wide open but I was tired. I decided to wait.

When we prepared to leave Saturday morning we could not do it. I could see plainly that when I checked. I decided we would try the front entrance. 

We pulled around front and aired the front and rear of the bus to the highest it would go. We can drive in that position, straight ahead without turning, for a short distance and at low speed. It was obvious very quickly that we could not do it.

We drove the bus to the back entrance and now only one truck was in the way. We talked to the neighbors but no one knew who owned the truck. We wiggled out a little at a time. In the picture below we are blocking the street, backing the bus in order to clear the truck you can see in the front on the driver's side.

Kelly Jo followed in the Green Machine to the first rest area. Then we hooked them together and continued our journey.

It was a beautiful day to drive.

We arrived about 6:10 and the welcoming committee had burritos!

We set up our sound Saturday night and visited with Pastor Martinez and his family. We have a wonderful time with these folks!

We had two great services to begin revival and two great surprises too!

The first surprise was our cousin Joey Lamb visiting from Sweeny, Texas. Joey is a construction superintendent and is working on a project about 45 minutes away. I knew he was out here and knew he was going to try to come but he surprised us by coming Sunday morning. He was able to be there for both services on Sunday.

Are you ready for the second surprise? This is a family that has come to see us four times this year. They came one night to Ellisville, Mississippi in February, the whole weekend to Johnson, Vermont in September, a weekend to Wichita, Kansas in October and now this week in El Mirage, Arizona.

These friends from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma are amazing! It is super to have the Mayhan's with us and we hope God blesses them for all of the encouragement they have been to us this year and well before too. We are excited to have them here!
