Los Angeles, California

We drove into Los Angeles on Friday night and again on Saturday morning. We have skirted around the edge of LA several times while driving back and forth between central California and Arizona and I flew into LAX once several years ago but we have never spent any time there.

The first thing of interest that we ran across was the famous "Hollywood" sign. We learned a few interesting facts about the sign. First we learned that the letters are 45' tall! Who knew? Secondly, the sign originally said "Hollywood Land". It was an advertisement for a real estate development in the 1920's. Also an actress committed suicide by jumping off the letter H into the deep ravine below during the great depression of the 1930's.

Next we found the site of the Azusa St. revival that started in 1906 and sparked Pentecostal revival around the world. The building has been gone for many years but it was neat to actually see the place where it happened.

I was very surprised to see a sign commemorating the place. I would guess that they have folks like us from all over that wonder in looking for 312 Azusa St. I was glad to be there. Thank God for Pastor William J. Seymour and the people who gathered from all over the world hungry for a manifestation of God in their lives!

Then we drove by the Angelus Temple that was built by Aimee Semple McPherson and dedicated on January 1, 1923. It was built to seat over 5000 people and was definitely the largest Pentecostal church at the time. It was pretty neat to see as well.

On Saturday we spent some time and walked some miles in the Garment District in downtown LA. It covers over 90 blocks and contains shops and vendors selling clothes, accessories, shoes, fabric, food and much much more. We didn't walk through it all but we sure gave it a good try! Not ever thing was cheap but the girls did find some $2 skirts and we saw lots of fabric for $1-3 a yard and even some 3 yards for $1 deals. And the hot dog stands were awesome! The rest of the pictures are random shots of our day in the Garment District.

We start revival in El Mirage at Desert Cove Assembly in the Phoenix area tonight. We are looking forward to being with all of our friends. We will try to post some pictures of revival by the weekend.

San Diego, California

Last week we kicked around San Diego for two days. We had never been to that part of California but had always heard how beautiful it is. It definitely lived up to its reputation for beauty. We stopped by to watch the waves roll in and then went back to the same place later to watch the sun go down. We were very impressed!

In the mean time we drove through the "Gas Lamp" district which is downtown, walked along the pier where the USS Midway is docked and moseyed into Red Lobster for some Endless Shrimp! Here is a picture of my first plate.

The next day we walked and walked and walked through the World Famous San Diego Zoo. None of our pictures turned out very well but here are a few. This first picture is Odie trying to "run" away from the Cheetah. It was hilarious! The Cheetah followed Odie along the whole length of the enclosure. If you zoom in on this picture you can see the Cheetah's head. Notice the man in the red shirt watching. He noticed it too. It was so funny and Odie was soooooo scared! There is no way the Cheetah could get to Odie but Odie was really spooked!

After Odie was out of sight the Cheetah kept looking the direction she went!

Kelly Jo and Odie posing next to the elephant.

And the friendly neighborhood Rhinos! They were so nice to raise their heads and pose for us. When we quit taking pictures they laid their heads back down. They were real hams....

San Diego is a very nice city although the traffic is much like Los Angeles which is horrible! I wouldn't want to live there without a helicopter! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

BUS-ted

We have several pictures from last week that we want to post but today's pictures take first place. We were pulling out of a church in Bloomington, California this morning and high-centered the BoggsMobile and got stuck! The bus is actually sitting on the step under the mid door in these pics! Both front wheels and the back right wheels were spinning free of the concrete.

I dragged some going in so I was having Kelly Jo pull out very carefully as I was putting boards under the wheels. Just as we were about to clear the high spot the boards spun out and down it went. My little heart nearly stopped! Thankfully we finally got it out without any damage to the stainless on the bay doors but it was a job. We were praying hard and working hard and the Lord came through!

We planned to make it all the way to El Mirage today but my nerves were shot so we stopped a little short of our goal. We start revival on Wednesday so we have plenty of time. Thanks for praying for us!
