A Word For Wednesday, How Does Salvation Work? USS Squalus

We have had several hundred friends dropping by Mile Markers every day for years. Sometimes the numbers are over 1000 each day. Thank you for that. We appreciate it very much. Would you consider clicking on the YouTube link and joining us there as well? It would make our day!

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

How does salvation work? Can we be saved without understanding how it works and why God would do it? Absolutely Yes! 33 men were saved from a sunken submarine off the coast of New Hampshire in 1939. They were rescued by a brand new contraption that they had never seen or maybe even heard about.
Not one of those 33 men declined to be saved because they did not understand the method of salvation. They very gladly climbed out of the sunken submarine into the newly developed McCann Rescue Chamber, no questions asked!

You do not have to understand Salvation or anything from the Bible. All you have to do is believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, confess your sin and ask Him to save you. He will do it!

Thank you for dropping in. Have a great day!

The List Is Getting Longer

A few years ago I called my Dad. I asked what he was doing and he told me he was sitting in his barn going through his phone. His intention was to go through his contacts and delete a few numbers of friends that had passed away.

He found that he had way more friends in that category than he initially suspected and could not bring himself to delete some of those numbers. In the midst of the sadness, we have had a good chuckle about that through the years.

In the brief few rotations around the sun since then, I have a bunch of names and numbers in the same class. I have trouble deleting some of them too.

Unfortunately, another dear friend was added to the list this week.

In 1989, I drove Bro. Kim Meyers to Oklahoma so he could preach an Easter Fellowship Meeting for his brother in law, Pastor Al Hunt. That trip proved to be one of the best decisions in my life. That weekend I met several men and families that have been incredible friends to us.

It is amazing how many people we met that weekend that became and still are a huge part of our lives. Many of them have shown up on Mile Markers on a regular basis and still do!

One of them that has not shown up here as much, but has played a huge part in our lives is Pastor Al Hunt. After a very long string of illnesses, Bro. Al went to Heaven this week.

Bro. Al has been too sick to Pastor for several years and has barely been able to get around. Therefore we have not seen him as much lately, but he is no less a friend.

Bro. Al was my friend when I did not feel like I had very many friends. When pleasant phone calls were scarce and visits from friends were even more scarce, Bro. Al called and came to visit us. He also invited us into his pulpit when invitations for me to preach were rare as hen's teeth.

I say something like this nearly every week. "I appreciate your Pastor inviting us into his church. It never gets old to me to receive an invitation. I remember the day when almost nobody was calling."

When I say that, I think of Bro. Al, who kept inviting me when I could hardly preach my way out of a wet paper sack. Bro. Al put my name and face on revival and fellowship meeting flyers when it probably cost him more fellowship than it gained. I told one of his sons this week, "I have never and will never forget it!"

Bro. Al's relationship with the Boggs family was not based on gaining socially or financially. It was based on the same thing that all of our great relationships are based on. Bro. Al took us as his friend and we accepted and loved his friendship in return.

We have all had friends that pulled back ever so slightly when it appeared our friendship might cost them a little social standing. We can not help but take note of that. But thank God for true friends like Bro. Al Hunt that love for Christ's sake and never even consider the cost.

Wow! What a friend! You are already missed, Bro. Al! Thank you for your friendship. Thank you from our hearts.

I will have trouble deleting Bro. Al's number and I hope to hang on to the memories until we see him again face to face.

While I was preparing this Mile Marker, I received word that another friend, Bro. Scott Ryland, passed away this week after a very long battle with cancer. God help!

The number of friends on the other side is growing by leaps and bounds.

Thank you for reading today.

A Word For Wednesday - What Have I Done To Deserve This?

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

For the second week in a row, I am speaking from W. E. Sangster's devotional, Daily Readings.

What have I done to deserve the bad things in my life? That is a common question. Mr. Sangster says that to balance that question, maybe we should ask instead, What have I done to deserve the good things in my life?

If you enjoy this, please subscribe, thumbs up the video and share it with someone.😍

It is always good when you join us on Mile Markers. Thank you!

A Word For Wednesday - Asking Men For God

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

In W. E. Sangster's daily devotional he says that we should ask God for men and then also ask men for God. I often ask God to help me reach men for His kingdom, but I should also be asking men for God.

Today I relate two stories. In the first, I tell about my failure to ask a man for God and the sorrow and guilt I felt afterward. Then I tell of an instance when I obeyed the nudge to ask men for God and the joy it brought and still brings to my soul.

Please enjoy A Word For Wednesday and let us hear from you. Thank you for reading and listening today.

A Word For Wednesday He Wouldn't Stay Dead

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

I posted this poem for Easter last year a few days after my sickest day. I was surprised when watched this week how weak I was. Thank God that He has brought me a mighty long way!
This is the video from 2021.

He Wouldn’t Stay Dead
by: Willard G. Thomas

They laid His body in Joseph’s new tomb
And filled His disciples with sorrow and gloom
They did not remember what He had said
That He would die, but He wouldn’t stay dead

Mary came at the break of day
And found the stone was rolled away
She saw an angel and in terror fled
And told His disciples that He didn’t stay dead

In that cold dark tomb, He would not stay
He conquered death and walked away
And now that old grave has lost its fear and dread
He lives again! He wouldn’t stay dead

Full atonement and pardon were made
And forever the sin debt was marked fully paid
The price was His blood as it flowed crimson red
And I’m thankful today that He didn’t stay dead!

Let’s go to our churches and cry aloud
Let’s go to the marketplace and talk to the crowd
Let’s go to the mission fields that lie up ahead
And tell the whole world that He didn’t stay dead!

Because if Jesus Christ had only died
Then the gulf between us and God would still be wide
But thank God He did what He said
He got up out of the ground, He couldn’t stay dead!

A Word For Wednesday, Testimony of Kenneth Ware

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

Today's Word For Wednesday is the testimony of Robert Kenneth Ware. This man's story inspires me to get busy about the Father's business! There is much work to do for Christ in the kingdom of God and stories like this man's life story make me want to work while it is day.

Thank you for reading Mile Markers each day and for watching A Word For Wednesday each week. We really do appreciate it.

A Word For Wednesday Hope That Someone Was Coming

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

The USS Indianapolis sank on July 30, 1945 after being hit with two missiles from a Japanese submarine. Of 1195 men, 316 survived after five days in the open sea. Survivor Cleatus Lebow said, "If we had known they did not know we were sunk, we would have all given up in despair, but we had hope that someone was coming."

He said, the men survived, because they were sure, help was coming. They had hope!

Hope is vitally important today. In a crazy world, what, who can we hope in? What, who can we trust. Our hope is in the Lord. Our hope is a deep settled knowledge that God is who He said He is!

Hope is possible today, because God is coming to rescue us!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you will take a moment to watch A Word For Wednesday.

A Word For Wednesday - Beloved, Believe Not Every Spirit

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

Why in the world are we so gullible? We are supposed to be on the lookout for false prophets in the last days. Instead, the American church swallows everything whole!

I John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We should not believe every spirit. We should put prophecy to the test. We should try the spirits. Are these modern day prophets teaching the truth? Are they confessing Christ? Are their prophecies true? Is their doctrine Biblical?

Beloved, Believe Not Every Spirit

Thank you for joining us today.

A Word For Wednesday How To Spot A False Prophet

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

We must not be deceived by false prophets in these last days.

Jesus said,
Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

How will we know false prophets? Amazingly, God already anticipated that question and answered the question for us too.
Deuteronomy 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
How do we know if the Lord is speaking through this man or not?
The man says the Lord is speaking through him, but how do we know?
Here is the answer
22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

If he preaches and prophesies and what he says does not come to pass he is not a prophet from God.
But
That is not the only guideline. God also gave us guidance for hearing a prophet who prophesies and it does come to pass.
Deuteronomy 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

If his predictions come to pass YET he preaches or teaches doctrine contrary to God and God’s Word, he is a false prophet!

Saints, we must be careful. We can not afford to be deceived by false prophets.

Thank you for reading today.

A Word For Wednesday See That Ye Be Not Troubled

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

Jesus was detailing some of the events and signs leading up to the end of time in Matthew 24. He tells us of false prophets, wars, earthquakes, pestilences and several other things the world will see and experience before and during the end.

Notice what Jesus inserts in one of the key verses.

Matthew 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

In the middle of all the turmoil and uncertainty, see that ye be not troubled. Wow! With wars and rumors of wars and nation against nation and famines and pestilences and earthquakes and so much more, see that ye be not troubled

How in the world can we keep from being exceedingly troubled when everything around us in falling apart. It can not be done in this world. It requires steady assistance from another world. With God's help, we can hold together when the world is falling apart.

Russia is invading Ukraine. I should say Russian leadership has ordered its army to invade Ukraine. It seems there is lacking a groundswell of support from the Russian people. The Ukrainian people are suffering horribly from this unprovoked attack.

Yet, Ukraine is putting up a brave, courageous and amazing defense of their nation and their people. It has been incredible to read the accounts.

There is no telling what the Russian dictator may do. He has threatened to use nuclear weapons and it is nearly certain he intends to expand his reach into other eastern European nations. He is breaking longstanding international rules and upsetting world peace in ways not seen since WWII.

No wonder people are speculating that this may be the build up to the beginning of the end. I have no way of knowing. But I know one thing for absolutely sure. Jesus said when you see all of this, see that ye be not troubled.

The end of days will not slip up on God unaware, friend. God is still in control. Please help us pray for the Ukrainian people, the Russian people and for thousands fleeing the area.

Bro. Rick Bradley and his family are missionaries living in Ukraine. They have narrowly escaped with their lives and are now in another country. They are on their way to an American Embassy to get their paperwork in order to come back to America for now.

Please pray for them. They need God's help and I am sure they need financial assistance too. We have helped them and I will list a couple ways to get money to them below.

Pray, friends and see that ye be not troubled. Thank you for reading.

A Word For Wednesday Direction Is More Important Than Location

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

Direction Is More Important Than Location

You may be far, far away from God. You may have someone dear to you that is far away from God. That is a horrible location. However, if you turn toward God, your direction is more important than your location.

Moving toward God is always better than moving away from God.

Thank you for joining us on Wednesdays. We try to have a short video ready to go every Wednesday and we hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for dropping in. Have a great day.

The Weekend Dispatch 2/21/22

Saturday evening I was able to put up a short video from Soundcheck Church in Citronelle, Alabama.

The Weekend Dispatch
Our weekend started a little differently than normal, but that is OK. Different is good.

Wednesday we noticed that bad weather was predicted for Thursday in Mississippi and Alabama. Some of the folks at White Plains suggested we stay put Thursday and it seemed like the best thing to do.

We spent most of the day in the parsonage just in case. The hail and tornadoes did not materialize in our area but the high winds and heavy rains did. I was amazed at how quickly the incredible winds would build and disappear several times Thursday.

Friday morning it was Much cooler after Thursday's storm front. We bundled up about mid-morning and did all the things necessary to hit the road.

Here we are ready to go.

When we are going east out of the church at White Plains, we need a spotter at the west entrance to keep from getting killed. People treat that highway like a racetrack and I can not see over the hill when exiting east. There is no way someone could avoid hitting the bus if they came flying over the hill.

KJo watched traffic for me in the Jeep and then we hooked the Jeep to the bus ten miles later at a truck stop in Union.

The trip from White Plains to Cedar Creek Church near Citronelle Alabama was completely uneventful and we arrived after 3 hours and fifteen minutes and 160 miles. Other than hooking up the car in Union, we never stopped. That is exactly like we prefer a travel day, short, sweet and no problems.

The parking spot at Cedar Creek is easy-peazy. We turn off the road, pull straight in, level up and unhook the Jeep.

It was wonderful to see Bro. Darius and Sis. Kim Templeton Friday evening. We love these dear friends from many years back at home in Dayton. Everyone misses them at Dryden Rd. but  I am glad they are working here at Cedar Creek.

Saturday we carried in and set up sound.

Sunday we began revival in the morning service. It was so good to be in church will all of our friends. We look forward to being in revival at Cedar Creek Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

In 2020, we found our way to the church at the end of the road, St. Thomas Assembly, on a Sunday evening. This church is Pastored by our friend, Bro. Eddie Stringfellow. We were free on Sunday night so we made plans to be there again.

We loved being there with friends and we had a wonderful service. We hope to see many of them in revival at Cedar Creek this week.

Wow! What a great Sunday to top off a great weekend. Thank you for spending a few minutes with us today.

A Word For Wednesday What Do You Have To Offer The Lord and The People Around You?

What Do You Have To Offer The Lord and The People Around You?

D.L. Moody said, "Every Christian is a missionary or an imposter."
But most of us feel like we are not qualified to win souls. We need more talent, knowledge, personality and a thousand other things in order for God to use us.

George B. Duncan said, "God does not need much of a man to use him, but He needs all of that man."

You may feel inadequate for God's work, but IF you will surrender all of you, God can use you to win souls and do great things for His kingdom.

I hope you enjoy A Word For Wednesday. Thank you for stopping by.

A Word For Wednesay - The Power of Your Epistle

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

The Power of Your Epistle or I could say The Power of Your Personal Testimony.

Bro. David Noe sent me his daily test a week or so back and it said this: The job of every Christian is to continue the work of Christ through Personal Experience and Public Example.

That text moved me deeply and I have enjoyed letting it percolate in my soul over the last several days. We must have a personal experience with Christ. We must be born again ourselves and not put our hope in the experience of someone else.

Apostle Paul was teaching in the same vein in II Corinthians 3.

1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

Our Personal Experience Passionate Enthusiasm Persistent Earnestness Will produce a wonderful Public Example

I hope you enjoy today's A Word For Wednesday and pass it on to someone else. Thank you.

A Word For Wednesday-Valuing The Word of God

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

How much do we value the Word of God? Are we captivated by the words of men? Does a man making a speech inspire us to great things? That is OK, but what kind of man is making that speech? Is he Godly? Is he even moral? Does he have a firm foundation of inward goodness to stand on?

I am afraid there is a possibility that we get carried away with the oratory skills of a sinful man and we are bored with the eternal Word of God. God help us to value His Word!

Matthew 22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

These men marveled at the words of Christ. They had never heard a man speak like this man. But they left Him and went their own way. I want to be marveled by the Word of God. I want to be moved by the Word of God AND I want to be modified by the Word of God We must allow the Word of God to change us.

Life comes with a manual for safe Christian living. It is called the Bible. However, events of life can still slip up on us by surprise. Black Ice is what Pastor David Webb calls these events in his book, Leading Like a Lion. Accidents, sudden illnesses, the death of loved ones and a million other patches of ice can cause us to go into the ditch.

But, Bro. Webb tells a story of how God can divinely intervene and bring us to a safe landing on solid ground. Oh, God, we need you to bring us to a safe landing in thee turbulent times!

I hope you enjoy A Word For Wednesday.

A Word For Wednesday, It Is More Blessed To Give Part Three, Delight In Finance

It is time for A Word For Wednesday. A Few minutes ago, I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

Today's episode of A Word For Wednesday was recorded early in 2021 and held for this time. This lesson and the two that proceed it are about Christian giving. At the time they were recorded, we were home, sick and not working.

We did not want anyone to think we were working an angle to get people to give to us. So we saved these lessons for now.

We NEVER want anyone to feel we are asking for something or that we think we deserve something from you. We are thankful to be part of God's family and to work in His vineyard. God has been so good to us and we love sharing His message.

The truth of Christian giving and the joy of giving is an amazing truth that everyone needs to know. Jesus is quoted as saying It is more blessed to give than to receive and has been proven to be true over and over!

We hope you enjoy this three-part series and decide to share it with others.

Today I am spending a few moments on the third part of a sermon called, "It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive-Living By Giving." Part Two is Delight In Finance.
