Oops!

Updated below the original post:

You may find this hard to believe, I find it incredibly hard to believe myself. However I speak the truth.😇

I was busy Monday night until late and hit the ground running this morning and completely forgot about writing  a mile marker. I picked up my phone at 10 minutes after 8 to make sure everything was posted as planned and realized at that moment, I had not planned anything.

I will get back to you later today by God’s grace.

Davy

Can you believe that I forgot to write and post a Mile Marker this morning until after 8:10? How many years have I been doing this? How many nights have I typed after midnight? How many mornings have I crawled out of bed early to write a Mile Marker?

I should definitely be in the habit of writing and posting a Mile Marker each day without a doubt. But I COMPLETELY forgot!

Most of the day Sunday and all day Monday I was preparing to preach a funeral Tuesday afternoon in Waynesville. It was the funeral of a first cousin, Marty Boggs. Marty was 52 years old and his death has shaken us all.

His Mother asked me to preach the funeral and I was honored to do it. I wanted every word to be placed exactly right and I wanted the Lord to help every individual in attendance and watching online.

I worked until late Monday night and I worked more very early Tuesday morning. I suppose that task was taking so much of my brainpower that the responsibility for Mile Markers slipped and away and oozed out of my brain cells.

OR I am losing it quickly.😒😒🤣

Thank you for checking in today.

Another Reminder and Making Progress

Many of you receive a notice each day in your email that we have posted on Mile Markers. The Google service we have used for that is going away soon. I posted a partial solution to that last week

I have good news on a couple of fronts. That partial solution may be a complete solution for some of you. I entered my email address into the new service which you will find on the right column when viewing Mile Markers on desktop view.

I receive a notification each morning, but it is only a link. However, two people sent emails to me with good news. They also put their email into the new service. After confirming with the service, they are receiving the whole blog each morning by email. That should solve the problem. Yay!

If you are having a problem signing up for "Follow it" on our page, there are instructions at this link to the previous post.

AND there are other options as well. Bro. Matt Sponaugle sent an email that is packed full of information about feed readers that inform you when a site has posted. It will not help those of you that need to read the post in your email, but it may be a big help to others.

I appreciate Bro. Matt's help. He gave me permission to pass the information along to you in his words. Thank you, friend.

Here is Bro. Matt Sponaugle in italicized print:
Although not really an exact solution for your readers, I have been following you for years with an RSS feed reader. I am currently using Feedly, but there are many more out there. Simply put, I go to the site every morning on my PC (or use their handy dandy app on my phone) and if any of the bloggers that I follow have posted a blog since the last time I checked, it shows up in a personalized list. I can choose to read or ignore those blogs (I never ignore yours! 😂 ).

To read it, I simply click on the header which displays the name of the blogger and the title of the blog. It opens up the blog and shows me a partially stripped down version of what you posted. If I want to read it on your website, it links directly to it.

By "partially stripped down", you may want to know that it reads and looks very much like your blog post on your website, but without the background on your site, and without any text formatting that you may have included.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it may be the same for the emails that people are currently receiving? Like on your site though, if the pictures are links to larger versions of the pictures, a user can click on the picture and go to the linked larger version to zoom in and inspect the tantalizing minute details of the perfectly cooked steak!

So, it may be one extra step (negligible though it may be) but I find that this is by far the quickest and best way for me to see any blog posts that are posted from the bloggers that I follow. I don't have to go to a person's site daily to see if they may or may not have posted. I don't have to open up separate email alerts from the different bloggers saying there is a new blog posted. Oh, and it's instant. Once you post the blog, the feed is posted to Feedly. I don't have to wait for the two hours that you mentioned for the new email service.

Wow! That is a lot of helpful information. Also, if you have a browser on your phone, you can always save our page on your screen and click on it once a day and read.

Hopefully, between those three options, everyone is covered. After all these years of building up readers, I would hate to lose a bunch due to a technical problem.

Thank you for stopping by today, no matter what path you took to arrive. There is only one way to Heaven, but there are lots of ways to Mile Markers!

A Partial Solution

Back in April, I let you know that we had received a Notification of Discontinuation from Blogger concerning the "Follow by Email" service we have been using on Mile Markers for years. The "Follow by Email" feature allowed you to have an email sent to you each time we posted.

That feature proved to be popular among many readers. In fact, some that receive the email, read the entire post in the email and need to read each post in their email for various reasons.

Google says "Follow by Email" will be going away in July. They have been known to extend deadlines such as this, but eventually, the service will end.

I have looked for similar services and have found one that other users in Blogger are using with some success. I have added it to the layout on our page and added our own email address. It has been sending notifications each morning. If I post between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM, as I usually do, you should receive an email around 8:00 AM Eastern.

There are two inconveniences of this new service.

Number one, you will have to enter your email address, hit subscribe and then confirm you want to receive the notices. Many of you signed up years ago, but if you want to be notified, you will have to sign up again.

If you are viewing on a phone or tablet, you will probably have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "View On Desktop". The new service is circled in green below and the old Blogger service has a red X.

You should receive a confirmation email and once you respond to it, you should get an email similar to the one below.

Click on the link and it will take you to Mile Markers.

The second inconvenience that I mentioned is that the email only supplies a link. I have not been able to find a way for the whole post to be within the notification email, but I am still exploring. It may be in the settings of the new service and I have not found it yet.

I am open to help with this.

Let me recap. The "Follow by Email" service is going away.
I have added a new service. You can find it in the Desktop View on the top right side.
If you would like to continue receiving email notifications, enter your email address and hit subscribe.
You should receive an email and you will have to confirm.
It only sends a link for now, not the whole post. Ugh!

Is that about as clear as mud? I will post this again in the next couple of weeks in order to prevent some of our faithful readers from losing the email notifications.

If you have never received email notifications, now is a good time to ask for those and never miss an exciting OR dull post.😁

Thank you for reading today.

Mile Marker Number 4000!

Today is a momentous occasion for Mile Markers. For the very first time in the history of our Mile Markers, there are 4000 posts published here.

This is how I described what I hoped to do here many years ago and I think it is still a pretty accurate description of our motive and result.

Mile Markers are a good way to describe our updates from the road. They keep track of our progress as we move across the country. We post about the grace of God, great churches, Pastors, people, revivals, music, family, food, fellowship, fun, our travels and who knows what else. Thanks for stopping in to read our Mile Markers. When you must leave we hope you leave informed, entertained, refreshed and thinking with a smile on your face.

One thing that we did not anticipate was how many friends we would meet in this space. We have sang and preached in places we did not even know existed and it began by someone stumbling across our corner of the internet. That is an unexpected surprise!

I have been writing here since November 2009. That means we have averaged almost 29 posts every month for well over eleven years. Wow! That is hard to believe.

I have seen many hundreds of websites come and go during that time, but we have tried to stay consistent. I have wondered at times if I am making good use of my time, but then I will get a message from someone saying they read a post that lifted them up or encouraged them and I keep on writing.

We have posted thousands of pictures and written many hundreds of thousands of words in this space. It has been an incredible investment of time and brainpower. It has certainly taken more time than I imagined it would.

I appreciate the writing that Odie has done the last few years and I also appreciate the patience that Kelly Jo has had with our little hobby. She has been a saint through all the years.

Someone informed me recently that some pictures are missing from older posts. After much investigation, I had discovered it is a widespread problem across Blogger. I hate that, because the Mile Markers serve as reminders of things I may need to know in the future and the pictures are a big part of that.

We plan to keep right on posting for the foreseeable future. About the time that I think I have exhausted every possible subject, ten more things raise their hands and demand to be turned into a Mile Maker. Until permanent writer's block sets in, I will try to keep plugging along.

We hope you continue to read and enjoy the pictures and all of the rest each and every day. If you have suggestions for topics, please leave them in the comment section. We always love to hear from you.

Thank you for staying with us for 4000 Mile Markers. Tomorrow we will take a step toward 5000 by His grace.

Thank you for stopping by.

Notice of Notification Discontinuation

Some of you who read Mile Markers on a regular basis, have signed up to be notified by email each night that we publish a post. I have heard from many of you that look for this email each night or the next morning. We sure appreciate that.

I received notice from Google that the notification by email will be discontinued in a few months. The email notification is slated to end in July. For whatever reason, they are doing completely away with the email service. Ugh!

I will begin researching other options and hopefully, we can put something else in place and make a seamless transition sometime in the next 60-90 days. We appreciate all of you that read Mile Markers and we want to make it as easy as possible to access the website.

However, IF you have not done so before, please bookmark Mile Markers or save it to the home screen of your phone or tablet. It may be that I will not be able to find a suitable replacement and the daily notifications may cease.

When I know more, I will let you know more. Thank you for reading each day.

A Look Back AND A Look Forward

We are On The Road Again.

It Begins
Our very first scheduled service of 2021, yesterday January 3, was canceled due to COVID cases in the church. It is unavoidable and completely understandable and not even frustrating anymore. It is part of our current manner of life and we are thankful for God's grace and help.

I did think it was worth mentioning here since I know that many of you are following along closely and praying for us and the churches.

Thank you for reading Mile Markers each day. I appreciate the great response to our first post of the year last Friday. I want to expand on that a bit.

I know that some of you read Mile Markers every night when you receive notice by email and some of you read every morning. Others read occasionally and we want you to know that we appreciate all of you.

We are not breaking any records in our little corner of the internet, but we are amazed at how many folks read Mile Markers each day. Blogger tells me that we had 272,000 page views in 2020. Thank you for being part of that number.

Our most read post of the year according to the numbers from Blogger was March 21, 2020. That was the day we arrived home for quarantine and two days before we began 61 nights of online revival. It was called We Need Revival In Uncertain Times.

I have reread that post today and our need for revival is as great on January 4, 2021, as it was in March 2020. There is nothing, No Thing, that will pull us through this mess besides God. We need God to move among us and saturate us with His love, His presence, His power and His peace!

We spent the next 61 nights after that post, trying to be an instrument of revival. We are still praising God for the way He helped us every step of the way and is still helping us today. Many of you joined us those nights of revival and we appreciate the encouragement you have given us in response.

To begin the online revival, we needed a presence on YouTube. I knew nothing about videoing for YouTube and less than nothing about getting it from my phone to YouTube itself. There is nothing to motivate learning like "It must be done in two days!"

Our YouTube channel is insignificant in the grand scheme of YouTube, but we are very happy with the modest growth. We have 1056 subscribers and our revival videos and other videos have been watched 68,500 times for a total of over 12,000 hours. We have posted about 150 videos with most of them being live.

We are very thankful that many of you readers have also walked along with us on YouTube. It has been quite an incredible journey for us and we hope to keep rolling by God's grace.

What is the plan going forward? Well, we plan to keep right on posting here nearly every day and we hope to continue posting as much as possible on YouTube this year too. In fact, our first YouTube post of the year will be this Wednesday as we announced the last Wednesday of 2020.

There is a way you can help us grow Mile Markers and our YouTube Channel and that is by following by email here and by subscribing on YouTube and sharing posts you like whenever you can, wherever you can. We appreciate it very much.

Brother and Sister let us look forward and let us go forward by faith into 2021. Seek God’s face, hold God’s hand and trust God’s heart. He will lead us safely home.

We appreciate you stopping by Mile Markers today too. Thank you and may God bless you.

Church, House and Comments

Life continues on in the same pattern the last two days. I have been working on the house during the day and going to church at night. I have been piddling with odds and ends on the house plus preparing for the electrical with Dad. We also laid out the cabinet pattern with a chalk line. The layout will work fine! It was neat to watch Odie navigate through the big openings in her power chair.

Bro. Gary Lee found a roofer to felt the roof last night. It was finished when we arrived home after church and I am anxious for the sun to rise so I can get a picture. That clears the way for us to begin on the inside in earnest!

Dryden Rd. had a great service Tuesday night so Bro. Bennie schedule service Wednesday night to go along with the regularly scheduled Thursday night service. We attended both nights and it was outstanding. Bro. JR Alexander was supposed to preach both nights and he did great as usual even though he did not even get the microphone Wednesday night. It was all really good.

For some reason I only have one picture on my phone from Dryden and it is from last week. It will have to do until Odie sends some in.

This is beautiful little Hadassah (I will have to check on the spelling) Thompson. This is the first time I have held her.

I have had several questions about comments on the blog lately. We love comments and we welcome all the interaction you will give us. We like to here that you are reading and enjoying.

About 100 folks follow the blog by email. You can do that from the "desktop" view of the blog. It is up in the right hand corner. It says "Follow by Email". There are a few steps to go through and then you will receive an email each night if we post that day.

The email will have the text and pictures from that day's blog and it will also have a link to the blog. I captured a screen shot from an email recently. You email will look something like this.

You can read the whole blog each night without ever visiting the blog. That is fine and that is what a lot of people do. Some of you have tried to comment from that email by replying to the email and those comments do not come through. I do not receive those replies at all and do not know where they go. They are probably contributing to the the massive amount of trash in the oceans and some of them are just now washing up on the shore of some previously pristine tropical paradise in the south Pacific.

If you want to leave a comment, you must click on the link in the email and visit the actual blog. The link is blue and highlighted in the email I receive. You will see a place to comment at the bottom of each blog. You write your comment, choose how you want to be identified and then do whatever it asks you to do to prove you are not a spammer.

Then we receive an email and approve your comment. That is it! Now comment away! We really do appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for stopping in today!

Mobile Viewing of boggsblogs.com

A little housekeeping on the blog today.

Many of you read the blog on a mobile device such as your phone or your tablet. If you do then you may have noticed a different look on our blog the last week or so. Normally when you view the blog on a mobile device you seen the same thing as you see when viewing on laptop or desktop. It should look something like this.

Then you can tap it to zoom it up closer to read the body of the blog.

You can also see the contents of the sidebars on both sides.

I would rather view most websites in their full form rather than their mobile format. I like to be able to see the content in the sidebars. I like to be able navigate to the archives, labels and various widgets in the desktop format.

Since that is the way I prefer to view it I left the mobile version in the off position. I have been reading lately that most internet users are viewing the internet primarily on mobile devices and those numbers are going up exponentially every year.

Then the company that designed our website at davykellyandodie.com sent me this:

"Approximately 66% of internet users are using mobile devices as well as their laptop/pc to view website content. With this in mind, it is important to offer them a mobile version of your website giving them faster load pages and easier navigation, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, to not lose your website page ranking.
Google the largest search engine says:
Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices."

Our davykellyandodie.com website  is pretty much just a static information page now with no new content added so it being found by search engines is not as important as boggsblogs being found easily by those searching the web. I probably will not mess with creating a mobile version of davykellyandodie.com but it is very easy to do on blogger.

One thing that has been great about the blog is that it is so easy to find on Google. We get regular visits from all over the world when people search for names of people, churches, towns and restaurants that been in the blog and terms like pentecost, church, preachers, holiness, bible, buses, campgrounds and many more words.

If the blog shows up in an seemingly unrelated search and the searcher follows the link to our blog and stays to read a while, then that is a good thing. I want that to continue as much as possible.

So I toggled the mobile switch on last week and now you see a mobile version on your phone and tablet. It should look something like this.

My question is do you like it this way? Is it better? It may be here to stay but I would like to know what you think. Let me know what your opinion.

If you would rather view the blog in the desktop version on your mobile device, you can go to the bottom of the page and click on "View Web Version" right under the "Home" button.

Have a great day.

Travel Day on Tuesday

We did make the drive yesterday in the BoggsMobile to the big city of Buckatunna, Mississippi and then turned out in the country to Red Creek Church of God. We arrived safely before 11:15. The short road out to the church is pretty narrow for the bus meeting other cars but we made it just fine. Both cars we met wisely pulled way over on their side and allowed us to pass through. We pulled into the parking lot and we were set up in just a few minutes.

Because the driving distance was less than 55 miles my travel day was pretty easy. I have the same amount of work on both ends of the trip but the real load falls on Kelly Jo. She has quite a bit to do before we ride and then she has to reverse it all when we get parked. I think she actually prefers the longer travel days since the work is all the same and she has more time to enjoy looking at the scenery as we go by.

We did have another good service last night at Red Creek. We had a good crowd again and great fellowship from local churches. God helped during the preaching and the altar service and we really enjoyed Him moving among us. Praise God for His help.

Bro. Darius Templeton was one of the Pastors that came tonight. I really appreciate him coming so far to be with us after having just heard us for nine services at his church last week. He heard us sing everything we know and has heard me preach everything I know. Yet he came and was a great encouragement and blessing to our family.

By the way, if you have not started the habit of reading Bro. Darius' daily devotion you should tune in and see what you are missing. I look forward to it every day.

I am typing this but not sure that I will be able to post it. We have glimpses of internet service on our Verizon hotspot but is is very undependable at best. I was able to email a few pictures to the blog at one point so if this goes through then I hope it has pictures below. If it does not post now, then I will add it to a post later in the week.

Thanks for reading.

Go and Do Likewise - The Forney Flyer

I have linked to Dave Forney and his family on the blog before. He flies for Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and is now stationed in Uganda. I started reading their blog when they were on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. MAF serves people in several places around the world.

Mr. Forney takes great pictures and inspires me with the things he writes. He posted last week about a specific flight mission that demonstrates why they do what they do. It is very moving and I want to pass it on to you. He does offer a disclaimer at the beginning of the post about disturbing content that may be inappropriate for young folks. If you are younger please grab a parent and let them read the post first.

Let me know what you thing about the post titled "Go and Do Likewise."

Merry Christmas

I will "probably" not post Christmas Day so I want to take a moment to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

May God bless each of you with a super great Christmas. Thank you for your friendship throughout this year and all the years that have passed. God has blessed us with an abundance of Godly friends and we are very, very thankful.

Thanks most of all that Christ Jesus came!

I know that some of you will be interested in this. Southern Gospel Yankee has posted a review of our new CD, He Came - The Gospel of Christmas. She was honest yet very kind. It would be nice if some of our millions of readers would drop by her blog and show here some love. We really appreciate the positive review. If you leave her a comment make sure it's positive. She deserves it.

Have a great day.

A Little Housekeeping, A Praise Report and A Prayer Request

We have internet where we are staying this week so I have been doing a little housekeeping on the blog the last night or two. It needs a total redesign but that will take more time than I have available right now. So for a slight change here or there will have to do.

I have updated the Mission-Nigeria page. It is one of the tabs at the top of the blog. I have added some information from our two trips over the last year and fixed some dead links and removed others. There is a lot of information on that page and we get a lot of visits just to that page. It was time to bring it up to date. You can also got to Labels on the side bar and choose Nigeria. That should bring up every post that I have ever written concerning Nigeria.

I also updated our Music page as well. It is also one of the tabs at the top of the page. I added our He Came - The Gospel of Christmas CD and made sure the links were working there too. Those links will take you to our Product page on the website where you can here sample tracks and purchase the CDs.

I have also made a few behind the scene changes that you will not see but seem to make things run more smoothly or at least make me feel better about it. Like I said it needs more work and I will do that as soon as possible.

Now for the praise report. Sis. Millikin came through surgery very, very well today. The surgeon thinks he was able to remove all of the cancer. He also said the limp nodes he removed looked non cancerous but of course that will need to be confirmed in the lab. She was doing well after surgery and the family is rejoicing in the good report. Thank you for praying and praise God for his help.

Bro. Marty had a decent night and pretty good day although he is very weak and is eating very, very little. He must have a miracle in order to live. Bro. Marty is in the hand of God and we trust Him to do what is best but we desire a miracle. Thank you for helping us pray.

May God bless you all with a great Thanksgiving day. Have a great meal. Have great fellowship. And take time to thank God for He is worthy.

Monday November 25, 2013

We had a good day in Oklahoma today. We spent some time with the Millikins this afternoon and evening and enjoyed the fellowship very much. They celebrated Sis. Millikin's birthday which is later this week and had a good time of singing, worship and prayer with Bro. Marty and several folks that had gathered in. It was wonderful to feel the Lord so close. Please continue to hold up Bro. Marty and the whole family before God.

I made a small change to the blog tonight. The spammers have really stepped up their comments on our blog the last few months. We have always received some spam comments but it has really increased lately. Some days I receive 50 or more crazy comments. I was getting spam comments on last night's post within 30 minutes. It is slightly aggravating. Blogger catches that they are spam but they are still sent to my email and every time I look at the mail on my phone I have 6-10 comments to delete.

The only thing that can be done short of disabling comments is to require word verification. I am afraid it will discourage people from commenting but I have decided to enable the extra step for a while. Maybe the spam bots will "learn" to leave us alone and then I can remove the word verification. We will see.

We love to read your comments so try not to let the word verification slow you down.

Thank you so much for reading. I know that many of you are faithful to read every day and many more check in a few times a week and we appreciate it very much. We have folks tell us every week that they read the blog and pray for us and that is a great blessing to us. May God bless you for it.

Happy Birthday, Boggsblogs!

Odie reminded me that Boggsblogs.com has a birthday in November. On the 7th it turned 4 years old. We originally started the blog to be able to post pictures directly from Nigeria during our trip in 2009.

We had not been able to post to our website while we were in Nigeria in 2007 so we decided to try the blog. It worked so well that we eventually moved our Mile Marker posts from our website to here and the rest is history! Since then we have posted almost 1300 times.

I have re-posted our very first test post below. It was a only test post but it was a tasty one!

Trying this out for the first time.  I couldn't think of a better way to get started than to post a picture of a GREAT hamburger.  You'll find this at a regional chain in the Tulsa, OK area called Ron's.  They have great food and I am a complete fan.  I've tried several but my favorite is the Double Big Daddy!  It has Two 1/2 pound patties, Three Pieces of cheese, Onions, Grilled Onions, Ketchup and Mustard.  It is Awesome!  The patties on this monster are thin like "Steak and Shake" but Ron's leaves the grease in and you can't make it to greasy for me.  That's my Motto: Greasy and Cheesy!  Hope you enjoy the Picture!  I sure enjoyed eating The Double Big Daddy!

No-Miss November

I try to post regular to the blog. I usually think I'm doing pretty good if I can put up 18-20 posts per month. The only time I hear from some folks is when I'm not posting often enough. Lol. That's OK. It is nice to be wanted. At least I know you are out there. I intend to post often but I want to have good content as well. I admire people that can post something interesting or thought provoking every day.

I am obviously not there yet but I did manage another No-Miss Nobember. That is, for the second year in a row I posted everyday in November. I worked on posts for this month from Montana, Utah, California, Georgia and Ohio. I typed posts on airplanes, in airports, sitting in McDonald's, standing outside in one place so I could get signal and in the warmth of the BoggsMobile. I have wrote about revival, friends, family, weather, churches, Pastors, music, food or whatever else came to mind. I have posted pictures of special people, places and some of my favorite foods! 30 days and 30 blog posts.

Posting everyday is certainly not a great accomplishment in the grand scheme of things but it's done. Now I hope I can think of something to write about tomorrow.

Until then... Back to the weather...
It snowed here at home last night. We were on our way to church in the rain when, lo and behold, it turned into snow! It is not the first day of snow here this year or the first we have seen this year but it did surprise us. After our experience in February with the Tulsa blizzard even a little snow makes me want to go WAY south!

Thanks for reading the blog. I hope it is warm where you are.

Into the Jungle

First of all, I want to wish my brother Tommy a Happy Birthday today! Have a great Birthday, Tommy!

There is a blog I have been reading for a year or so that I think some of you may find interesting. He only posts about 3-5 times a month but I always look forward to his pictures and the what he has to say. His name is Dave and he is a missionary pilot and mechanic with MAF International (Mission Aviation Fellowship,) serving in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. He serves there with his wife and five children.

Although he is a pilot and normally flies OVER the jungle, Dave and his coworker take an annual hike for a week or two THROUGH the jungle with local guides. This year's trip was their most ambitious. They hiked through areas where it is likely men have not been for many years if ever. Of their three guides only one of them had ever been in any of the remote area they were hiking through. He tells about it in three posts. It is really amazing. Kelly Jo and I loved the posts and the awesome pictures. I believe you may like them as well. Below are links to the three posts. Let us know what you think...
