Throwback Thursday 5/14/26

 Hey Friends,

Today, we remember and honor Aunt Faye. She went home to be with the Lord last week.

She will forever be loved and missed! I could not locate pictures in my archives. I know they are hiding somewhere in the masses.

Throwback Thursday

Here is a post Dad wrote in May 2019.  He wrote this post about Granpa Godfrey and Grandma Bessie Isaacs. 2019 marked their 100th wedding anniversary.

The Jackson County Sun later published a piece using Dad’s writing. We knew he had made it once the Sun published him. 😊

I hope you enjoy this Throwback Thursday.

Odie

My mom, Martha, sent me this picture Friday. I introduce to you Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs on their wedding day, May 10, 1919.

Grandma Bessie's sister and her husband took them to Richmond, Kentucky to get married. That is over 20 miles one way in a horse-drawn wagon. Grandma said they wore their winter coats and a big snow fell on their way.

Friday marked 100 years since their wedding on that cold, snowy day in May 1919. They were just kids, really. Grandpa would turn 17 the following July and Grandma would turn 16 the following October.

They would have their first child the next year and that baby would pass away before his first birthday. My youngest brother, Tommy, is named after their first child. Their last child was born in 1947. He was their 17th. 14 of those children would live to be grown and have their own children.

Grandma and Grandpa lived in Ohio for a time, but most of their lives were spent way up a hollow about 2 miles off Red Lick Rd at the Madison County/Jackson County line.

They built this home in about 1937. This is where my Mother was born.

That is also the home that we visited all our growing up years. We spent lots of weekends and a week or two most every summer roaming around the mountains surrounding the log cabin, playing in the creeks, climbing in the barn, going with Grandpa to tend to crops and animals and watching him slop the hogs. We also carried wood and water for Grandma.

The meals in Grandma's kitchen were the best meals I have ever eaten to this day, especially the breakfasts. Every single night I ever spent in that house was punctuated with the smell of homemade biscuits, gravy, sausage, bacon, salt-cured ham, fried potatoes, fried apples, eggs and who knows what else every morning.

Meals were a huge affair at Grandma's and were not to be rushed into lightly. Once the meal was prepared, we did not go to the tables in the kitchen. No, we went into the living room, got down on our knees and prayed. Prayer was serious business in that home.

Then we gathered around the tables and said "Grace" over the meal. Just about everything they ever ate came from the labor of their hands and the grace of God and I suppose they wanted him to know they were thankful.

And then we did eat! Wow! What amazing memories I have of the food. The absolute best biscuits in the world were made in that kitchen on Grandma's wood stove. Cracker Barrel biscuits have a hint of the flavor of Grandma's and even they cannot hold a candle to the biscuits in my memory.

Grandma's jellies and jams were a perfect treat for me growing up, especially her blackberry jam. We would do as Grandpa did for dessert. He would put some home churned butter on his plate, a big spoon full of blackberry jam, mix it all together with a fork and sop it up with his biscuit. The only thing that would give that any competition was to substitute Grandpa's famous homemade sorghum molasses for the jam. Wow and Wow!

Another great memory of Grandma and Grandpa's house was all the kids around. I told you that 14 of their children grew to adulthood and have their own children and Boy Howdy did they ever have children. There were 98 of us grandkids with the last one being born a few months before Odie in 1985.

Uncle Herman's kids and Uncle Charles' kids were almost always around since they lived close most of the time. Sometimes you could throw in Aunt Madeline's kids and Aunt Edna's kids too.  At home, we had trouble finding enough kids for a game of baseball, but at Grandma's, we had enough kids for a whole league.

But finding enough level ground to play baseball would have been difficult, so we ran all over those hills having the time of our lives. By the end of the day, we had enough dirt ground into our clothes and skin to make a mountain of our own.

Bath time always made me regret the dirt I had accumulated. We carried cold water from the well or rain barrel and put it in the tub one bucket at a time and then added a pot of water that Grandma had heated on the wood stove, hoping to knock some of the chill off. It never seemed to work.

Every night, everyone that was staying in the house and even others that lived nearby would gather in the living room. Grandpa would read a chapter or two from the Bible with a flickering coal oil lamp to read by. He would expound a little from the scriptures he had read and sometimes there would be some discussion. Then they would sing a song or two and they would pray.

I did not realize as a boy that all of that was sinking into my heart and mind, but it was. I remember many of the things Grandpa talked about and Oh how I remember the prayers of those gathered in that living room.

Like all of us, some of Grandpa's beliefs were shaped more from life experience than by the Bible, but he was very sincere in studying the Word. That soaked in.

Grandpa passed away in August 1985 when I was 18 years old. I was in his bedroom laying across the end of the bed when he stirred. He had been mostly comatose for a day or two when he opened his eyes, reached up for something coming down from the ceiling that we could not see, embraced the unseen and slipped into glory.

This is Grandpa and Grandma Isaacs in the early to mid-1980s. They had been married over 66 years when Grandpa died.

Odie was born in October 1985 and this is Grandma holding Odie as a small baby in my parents home.

She passed away in October 1987 after a short illness one day before her 84th birthday.

The spiritual legacy that Grandma Isaacs left us is huge. She was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost as a very young girl during the early days of the second outpouring in the early 1900s. Her experience with the Lord influenced and shaped every single aspect of her life.

She was above all else, Christian. She lived the hardscrabble life of a farmers wife in a house with no access to running water or electricity. She birthed 17 children into that existence and took care of her children and her husband and everyone else that came through. She did all of it with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.

The three weeks that she lay dying in my Aunt's house, just a few miles from where she lived, her family gathered around her. I heard several of her children say that they had never heard their mother raise her voice in anger.

Wow! Odie could say the same thing about me, but she would be lying.

Grandma Bessie Isaacs was a sanctified woman and her example and influence still stir my soul today.

100 years ago, Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs were married. Although they only have five daughters and one son still living, the direct descendant's number in the multiplied hundreds now. Many of the descendants are dedicated Christians. Some are Pastoring churches, singing and preaching the Gospel all over the world.

Who could have ever guessed those results when a 16 year old boy and a 15 year old girl hitched a ride in a wagon to get married on a cold snowy day in May?

May God bless the family of Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs this week 100 years after they joined forces and began their family journey.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Throwback Thursday 11/13/25

 Hey Friends,

First off, today let's celebrate! My precious Aunt Theresa Boggs Osborn had a birthday today! Happy Happy birthday, Theresa!

We love you to the moon and back! I am so proud of you. You are a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, friend, and pastor's wife!

Thank you for being awesome! You are a blessing too many people! May God give you a wonderful day and great blessings today.

No doubt about it, you will always be Dad's favorite sister!

I have a couple of Throwback Thursday moments for today

This is Dad’s final A Word For Wednesday  He published this on the last Wednesday of October in 2024. It took all of his strength to get this episode recorded, edited and published. In fact, he begged Mom or I to record this episode for him

HERE is the link to the complete playlist for Dad's weekly Wednesday devotional. I am grateful that we have these videos archived! These messages are still thought-provoking and encouraging!

There is one more thing that happened a year ago today, I do not know if we mentioned it here on the blog. It is a memory that Mom and I will cherish forever! We believe that it is a God moment.

One year ago today, we arrived home to Ohio. Mom, Papaw Danny, and my self were in our car making the drive. My Uncle Danny and Aunt Jeanna were following us.

As we came in to Cincinnati, Ohio. A Southwest Airlines plane flew right in front of us. The plane was very noticeable! Dad’s body made it’s final trip home from Wichita, Kansas on a Southwest Airlines flight.

We came in to Cincinnati at the same time as his flight would have been making it final descent. We could not have planned it on our own to see that plane come in to Cincinnati.

In my mind, it was a Godwink that our hearts needed that very moment. I wish I would have snapped a picture, but I was too shocked in the moment. It is a memory that I will carry in my heart forever!

That is just one of the many way we have seen God work over the last year! I am so thankful that we can depend on God to always be with us. He is always working on our behalf even when I can't see it or fill it God is working! I believe it with all of my heart!

Thanks for reading! See you next time.

Davy Day November 10th 2025

 Hey Friends,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your extra prayers yesterday! We sincerely appreciate every call, text, comment and card that let us know you were praying for us! We all felt your prayers, hugs and thoughts!

As I wrote yesterday, HERE, it has been one year since Dad has been in Heaven. It was a day full of emotions. We laughed, cried, laughed a lot more and shed a few more tears. Praise the Lord, I can say it was a great day!

Mom and I decided, leading up to this day, that we were going to have a good day. I knew I wanted to spend yesterday close to family.

The first snowfall of the season arrived Sunday night and persisted most of Monday. We all had to laugh. Dad despised snow! He was probably having a good laugh at us yesterday!

In Davy fashion, we went to Acapulco for lunch. We were there when the doors opened at 11 AM, just like Dad  would have been. We drank some salsa for him. It was great to spend time with several of our family members that could join us! I think it was good for all of us!

Mom and I decided to wear Dad's shirts, hats and "ear muffins". It was our little way of having him with us. Mom even ended up getting salsa on her Davy shirt. I know it was not the first time the shirt had Alcapulco’s salsa on it. 🤣

I failed to get pictures for memories sake. Mom's parents were not able to join us for lunch but they came to spend some time with us in the afternoon. We enjoyed Gran and Papaw’s visit!

Later in the evening we went to visit with Mamaw, Papaw and Uncle Steve. It was great to have family with us yesterday. The others were close by via call or text! Our family has helped carry us through this year!  We can never thank them enough for their love.

Then we were hungry for supper. We all loaded up in the van, and our day concluded with a trip to a Frisch's Big Boy in West Chester, Ohio. It was wonderful to taste this Ohio comfort food again!

Another first is behind us. Lord, I thank you for helping us get through the day! Please be with us as we begin year number two.

Thank you again for being our friends and reading about our adventure of life! I appreciate you for being here for the good, bad and  ugly! See you next time.

Throwback Thursday 10/22/25

Hey Friends,

Thanks for stopping by today. I appreciate your prayers for baby Beckham. Please keep praying. He was a bit better at my last update. We are thanking God!

Yesterday was the 43rd wedding anniversary of our dear friends, Bruce and Priscilla Mayhan. They chose to spend the day with us, and we are incredibly honored!

I hope this was a great anniversary for them! Mom and I have loved having our dear friends with us this week.

I will let Dad finish out this post. We were able to attend the Mayhan's 40th anniversary celebration in 2022. I hope you enjoy this Throwback Thursday.

Special Day with Special Friends

"We have written about our dear friends, Bro. Bruce and Sis. Priscilla Mayhan, many times on these Mile Markers.

IF you have been paying attention, you have seen oodles of pictures of them on a pretty regular basis. The reason is, they have made a great effort to show themselves friendly and visit us through the years.

They have made trips to see us in Kentucky, North Carolina, Vermont, Arizona, Texas, Mississippi, Kansas, all over Oklahoma and several other places that are at the edge of my recollection at the moment. They have completely surprised us in some of those locations.

They have been with us in revivals and other services in all the locations I mentioned above and we have enjoyed their fellowship and their friendship more than we can describe. We have traveled together to Alaska and even to Australia and New Zealand.

We have enjoyed dozens and dozens of meals with them. From tacos and burritos to tremendous steak and buffets. We have laughed and talked and visited our way through restaurants and fellowship halls all over. AND enjoyed every moment and every bite.

They are witty and fun. They are loyal and Godly. Bro. Bruce has talked with me at length about the Bible and spiritual things and has given me the insight that I needed at critical junctures in my life. They are real friends that date back to the 1980s. Yep, into the last century!

We have known them since their boys were very small and now their boys have given them grandchildren that seem nearly grown. They have known us since Odie was a young girl.

Their sons were throwing a 40th Anniversary Celebration for them in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma last week. It just happened to be on the only night we had free in the area on a day when we were traveling right through Pauls Valley.

How easy was that? We try to tell people to schedule weddings, funerals and special get-togethers at least two years in advance so we can be there, but they are hardly ever are able to do that.😍

So, unfortunately, we miss occasions like this nearly 100% of the time. It seems we are always at least 500 miles away, but not this time. It was planned perfectly and we were super glad to be there and help celebrate our dear friends!

Tyler and Zach Mayhan

As a bonus, we were blessed to see some great friends that we had not seen in a long time, including Bro. Kenneth and Sis. Andra Rowe. Bro. Rowe was the first pastor in Texas to have us for revival and we enjoyed many, many nights of revival and fellowship with them in Keller, Texas spread over lots of years.

They retired a few years ago and moved to Oklahoma near Ft. Smith, Arkansas to be near their son and grandchildren. It was wonderful to see them and spend a few minutes with them. We have great memories of these special friends and hope to see them again soon!

Yes, it was a wonderful night. There was no way to visit with everyone there, but we enjoyed trying. May God bless the Mayhan's with another 40 years of happy marriage. I hope to be in Heaven by then, but I will be waiting for them to arrive.😍 We will celebrate then!

Thank you for joining us today. May God bless you too!

Davy"

Happy Birthday America

 Hey Friends,

Thanks for stopping by for a visit today! Have you read the two special posts that we have shared this week?

Sunday was a very special post commemorating my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. Yesterday, Thursday, was my mom's birthday.

Thank you to everyone who sent her birthday text, emails, phone calls and videos. Mom really appreciated all of them! She had a great birthday!

The birthdays continue! Today is America's birthday! Happy birthday America! Happy Fourth of July to the rest of you!

Our country was founded 249 years ago today. Our independence from Great Britain was declared on July 4th 1776!

Thank God for our  forefathers who had a vision to create a country. Thank you to each and everyone of them who fought and or died so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we know is the norm today. We are blessed abundantly as Americans!

I am so thankful to be an American. I pray that God continues to bless our great nation, and have mercy upon us! We are in need of God more now than! God, please give our nation revival!

It has been a while since I shared this! Let's listen to the Isaacs sing Star-Spangled Banner.

I will never forget the first time we heard him do it live. It was in a small theater in Louisiana! We were blown away then by their incredible rendition of our national anthem. their version never gets old! This particular video is a trip down memory lane.

Thanks for reading! I will be back tomorrow.

Please keep scrolling there's even more to come! I know you are going to  enjoy hearing from Mom!

40 years ago, I had no clue of the adventure my life was going to become. I was a kid with only an imagination of what life with Davy Boggs would be like.

On June 29, 1985, we stepped out into the great unknown and began our life together.

As a child I loved traveling for vacation with my parents. I guess they didn’t know they were equipping me for my future.

Davy has taken me around the world in ministry and in travel for relaxation and recuperation. I cannot remember all the years he had traveled and preached over 300 nights a year.

He loved to take me to explore new places whether it be churches or National Parks or foreign countries. We shared a great love of travel.

I lost Davy on this road of companionship a few months short of 40 years. Now my journey has changed a bit.

I am having to explore and travel in a different way without him beside me leading the way or cheering me on.

As I plan something for the future. I will never stop traveling with him in my heart and mind.

I hear his caution, advice and feel his affirmation as I try to go on. I am grateful for the 40 years he took care of me and I will always carry him with me.

I will celebrate this anniversary being grateful for Davy, a wonderful husband, friend and road warrior.
I want everyone to know how good he was to me.

I give glory to God for giving me Davy for the time I had him.
God is So Good.
