A Visit to the Original KFC in Corbin, Kentucky

I am going to have this ready to post on Thursday just in case we are not able to post from Nigeria the first day. Remember, there may be more than one post a day while were are gone so scroll down to see.

Sunday we ate with the Carpenter's at the Original KFC in Corbin, Kentucky. The colonel's story is very interesting and the chicken was very, very good. We had great food, fellowship and fun in the house that fried chicken built!

Of couse, Kelly Jo had to have some pictures with Colonel Sanders. She loves those celebrity pictures you know. In this first one the Colonel is trying to balance a bucket of chicken on her head.

Evidently Colonel Sanders had never seen an iPhone. I would guess he is just too busy preparing chicken and visiting with all of the folks that come through. You can see that he is very interested in the KJ's iPhone. He really loved all of her pictures, especially the pictures with other celebrity's.

He was really fascinated that she had met and had her picture taken with Big Boy, The Geico Gecko and Ben Isaacs. The Colonel has known and respected Big Boy for many years but he really wanted to meet the Gecko and Ben Isaacs someday.

I am so glad we finally made to the home of Colonel Sanders and Kentucky Fried Chicken. I have been a fan for years!

God bless,

Davy

Garfield And Odie

Odie ran into Garfield while in town recently. He looks very happy to see Odie!

Of course Kelly Jo had to have her picture taken with Garfield too. It has been a while since she has had her picture taken with any celebrities...

Calotype Pictures From Our Havin' Church CD

Julie Stephens took the pictures for our cover and did a great job as usual. She and her husband John are so talented. You can see several of the pictures below.  Julie also designed the front cover.  She was actually just giving us some ideas and we liked her ideas so much that we told the manufacturer that her design was exactly what we wanted.  She is so good, as you can see.

John and Julie's studio is located in Anderson, Missouri and is called Calotype Photography.  I will put the phone number below. Click on Calotype to go to their website. If you ever have the chance to schedule some time in their studio, I am sure you will be well pleased with the end result. Tell them we sent you and give them a big hug for us!

While in the studio, Kelly Jo had another celebrity sighting. We were told this guy looks like a singer who is a real Rascal. Guess who in the comments. The picture is at the bottom of the page.

Kelly Jo with Yet Another Celebrity!

Here is a picture of Kelly Jo with one of our dear friends in Wichita, Kansas last week. This is Sis. Evelyn Mitchell or as we affectionately call her, Grandma Mitchell.

Grandma Mitchell spent most of her life playing the piano. She was born in Austria and gave her first piano recital at age 6 and continued performing and teaching in Europe and in the United States, until she retired from the University of Missouri at age 70.

Sis. Mitchell told us that she has now come to consider all of that as the most unfulfilled part of her life. She was introduced to Christ in her fifties and surrendered her life to Him. In her eighties she attended and graduated from Great Plains Bible School at Bethany Revival Center in Wichita under Pastor John and Judy DiZazzo. Now 2 years away from 90, she is experiencing the richest, most peaceful and wonderful time of her life as she ministers to the inmates at the Sedgwick County Jail.

There is no way of knowing how many people Sis. Mitchell influenced in all her years of playing and teaching the piano. She has brought joy into countless lives. Yet as a Christian dedicated to winning others to Christ her influence can be much greater! She would rather win a soul to Christ than to hear the applause of the crowd. In our book, that makes Grandma Mitchel a real celebrity!

Kelly Jo With An Even Bigger Celebrity!

Here is another picture in the on going series of Kelly Jo with
celebrities. First she posed with The Geico Gecko, then the Frisch's
Big Boy and now the gentle, lovable and super talented Ben Isaacs.

Speaking of super talented, The Issacs were singing less than 10
miles from us on Sunday night so we drove over in the afternoon and
visited for a little while. It was good to see Aunt Lily, Ben, Sonia,
Becky, Levi, Jakobi and all the rest. Wish we could have spent more
time with them all. We think the world of the whole family but the
picture of Kelly Jo and Ben just happens to be the only picture I
snapped with my phone.

Though I'm half joking when I call Ben a celebrity, he is a very
important part of our lives. He is not only family, my trouble
shooting consultant for the BoggsMobile, our record producer, the go-
to-guy for sound issues but he is also one of our dearest friends!

I wonder who Kelly Jo will show up with next? Any suggestions?
Leave a comment with your ideas.

Kelly Jo With Another Celebrity

This is a picture of Kelly Jo with another celebrity. But
this one is an old friend. His name is Big Boy and we have known him
for as long as we can remember.

We closed revival last night in Central City and headed to Brooks,
KY this afternoon. Brooks is in the Louisville area and as we arrived
we realized we would be in Frisch's territory. We haven't been to
Frisch's since December so away we went.

Now, it's not a fancy place but for folks that grew up in or near
southern Ohio like us, Frisch's is a little slice of home. It is
always one of the first places we go as we near home. There's
nothing quite like a Big Boy hamburger with extra tartar sauce. This
afternoon I added the salad bar and it was good and fresh. It was
nice to see you again Mr. Big Boy!

Tomorrow morning we start revival here at Calvary Holiness
Church. We are anxious to see what the Lord has in store for Pastor
Doug Webb and the great folks here. There's no telling what God will
do for His people. Pray for us.

God bless you all.

Kelly Jo Meets the Gecko from Geico!

In our travels we sometimes have a chance to meet folks that some count as famous. It is not a super big deal but to meet or see someone famous is kind of cool now and then. Recently we ran across what could be the most famous character we have met to date. We met the one responsible for saving Americans millions of dollars on their car insurance, the one and only Gecko! He was quite busy so we didn't get to discuss the possibility of Geico sponsoring the BoggsMobile and plastering his cute little face on the side of it but Kelly Jo did get close enough for a picture and a quick hug! Wow! You never know what excitement you will find out here on the open road!
