Using Your iPad As A Song Book

Revival Update

Revival at Foster Grove Holiness Church is going great. We are having good crowds and great fellowship from local churches. It has really been a blessing to us. God is moving and we are thankful. We are taking some pictures even though our official photographer is some where in the Caribbean. We will try to post them on Saturday.

Using Your iPad As A Song Book

Kelly Jo has been using her iPad as her song book almost since the first day she got it. It is so much easier than lugging around a big song book as she used to do or keeping up with a dozen books and never having the right one when you need it. The iPad has been perfect as a song book.

When people see her using it during altar they are often curious about it. Lots of folks have purchased an iPad for the purpose of using it as a song book but have not been able to figure out how to do it.

Kelly Jo wanted a way to somehow transfer all the songs from her big song book that she had compiled for many years. Many of those songs had been typed out and we had the files on our laptop. Many of the others were copies she made from other sources or were handwritten.

How could she get all of them onto her iPad and organized into one place?

Then some one told her about an app called My Music Stand. There is another app called Music Stand but that is different. The correct one she uses is My Music Stand.

Here it is in the app store.

And on the iPad

With My Music Stand you can transfer files from almost any of the word processing apps. Kelly Jo uses Pages for typing songs. Also if you have files on a laptop those can we transferred to Pages and then brought over to My Music Stand.

You can also take pictures of each page of your existing song book, or any song book for that matter and bring them into My Music Stand. The pictures can be of type written pages or hand written pages. Kelly Jo took literally hundreds of pictures of pages from her tediously compiled song book and in just a little while every one of those songs were on her iPad.

You can also take screen shots of lyrics and bring those pictures into My Music Stand. She does that when she looks up lyrics on the internet. She Googles the song, finds the correct lyrics, centers them on the page, takes a screenshot picture and then transfers the picture into My Music Stand.

My Music Stand alphabetizes the titles that you type in and places them in a handy sidebar scroll. It is very convenient. As with any app there is a slight learning curve but the more you mess with it the easier it is. She has found a few minor glitches in the app after a few years of use but she works around them.

You can view the files on a whole page.

Or you can view them on part of the page and leave the sidebar visible.

She often does that while singing one song at altar service and looking for another appropriate song.

Kelly Jo has also sorted several songs into categories and created set lists with the app. So if she wants songs about faith and healing she can see them at a glance.

The is a small cost in the app store for My Music Stand and for most of the good word processing apps like Pages and Docs To Go but the cost is insignificant compared to the ease and convenience of having your song book on your iPad.

It also works for sermons. Most of my sermons the last 20 years have been typed and stored on my computer so I have access to those files. But I have made handwritten notations all over the pages, scratching things out and adding things in. My Music Stand allows me to screenshot those sermons and bring them onto my iPad just like they are. I also took pictures of the dozens and dozens of handwritten sermons notes that I had in my notebooks.

Once I have them in My Music Stand I move them to PDF Expert. I like the flexibility that PDF Expert gives me to add in notes to the files, add and delete pages and to merge files. I also like the fact that I can "turn" pages in PDF Expert rather than scroll.

There may be better ways to get all of this accomplished but this is the way that we do it. Kelly Jo has so many people ask her about it that it seemed prudent to post this information here. One more thing, as of now this is an iPad only app. You will not find it for the iPhone or other devices at this time.

Have a great day.

Schedule Change

We have added a date to the calendar. Yesterday morning I received a text asking us to sing Sunday morning at another church nearby here. We have plans to spend the afternoon with my immediate family Sunday afternoon but everyone was OK with us making plans for Sunday morning.

So we will be singing at Gregoryville Christian Church near Grayson, Kentucky. Google maps says it is about 11 miles from here. It is located right on US 60 between Carter Caves State Park turn off and Grayson. It is also visible from I-64.

Service begins at 11:00. Come on out and be in service with us Sunday morning if you are nearby.

We had another great day relaxing and spending time with family. Kelly Jo and I took another walk to a second natural bridge yesterday evening. This time my Bro. Steve, his wife Karen and Cousin Reva's grandson Solomon walked with us.

We may make it to the third natural bridge before the week is out. It sure is beautiful here. I will have some pictures to prove it. Here is one to wet your appetite.

We had a great day visiting with extended family and sitting around the fire in the evening. There should be more good times to come.

Now Order Our New CD Online - He Came - The Gospel of Christmas

He Came - The Gospel of Christmas

Thanks to Dr. J, Bro. David Johnston of DRJ Website Designs, you can now order our new CD from our website. I sincerely hope you will order several hundred copies for you and your closest friends. You better hurry because these things are flying off the shelves faster than Christmas snow cones in Alaska.

We are getting good reports on the CD and we hope it will be a blessing to all that hear it. I was very hesitant to put the sermon track on the project but so far I have had nothing but positive feedback. The reason for that may be politeness but real feelings have a way of rising to the surface. I will know more about the quality of that decision as time rocks on.

I really want the message of the Gospel to be heard. We have already given a bunch of these CDs away as a witnessing tool and I have plans to strategically give many more away. Of course the more we sell the more we can give away. Funny how it works that way.

Check out sample tracks HERE.

Benefit Singing 1/28/12

Here are a few pictures that we promised from the singing Saturday night.

John Mills ran the Gospel station 900 KSGL in Wichita, Kansas for many years. He was so kind to us when we lived there. He took Odie under his wing at the station. They even had a weekly "John and Odie" show until we moved from Wichita. John and his family have relocated to the Tulsa area and it was so good to see them at the singing.

Oops! Schedule Change...

What do we always say when we publish our schedule in the Newsletter?

All These Dates Are Subject to Change (Like Maybe Tomorrow)For Our Full Schedule Please Check Our Website www.davykellyandodie.com

Well, as often happens, we send out the Newsletter and the schedule does just that... it changes!

We knew this change was a possibility but we couldn't wait any longer to get the newsletter out. Since this change falls within the next month I felt like I should make folks aware of it just in case somebody wanted to visit revival.

We will also be doing a singing on January 28th in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area for Bro. Rich along with the Crafton Trio from Joplin, Missouri. The location has not been determined yet so call closer to the date for more info. I will try to update the information on the blog when it becomes available.

God bless you all...
Davy

"Havin' Church" on Enlighten SiriusXM Radio

Saturday evening Mr. Marlin Taylor played half of our "Havin' Church Live in California" CD on SiriusXm satellite radio. It was part of their Weekend Jubilee program that follows immediately after the Gospel Greats on Saturday and Sundays. It will repeat tonight.

I was talking on the phone to Bro. Jimmy Millikin as he was driving and he said, "They are playing your new CD on XM!" Then I started getting text messages from all over the country.

First he played a project from the Crist family and then ours. Next weekend he will play the second half of our CD. You can find more information HERE.

We appreciate Mr. Taylor for playing our music. If you enjoy it send him an email and let him know it. I know we will certainly let him know.

Thought you might be interested.

Singing at Flat Branch Assembly, Pastor Jim Koen

Saturday night we had a great singing at Flat Branch Assembly near Millry, Alabama.  We had a good crowd from the surrounding churches and a wonderful service. Pastor Jim Koen and his church received us with open arms and we enjoyed their warm hospitality. It was our first time at their church and we look forward to returning.

Kelly Jo snapped just a few pictures as the folks were coming in. You can see them below.

We started at Ellisville, Mississippi yesterday and God covered that place up in the altar services. We are praising God for His help. We will have more to report with pictures as well in the coming days.

God bless,
Davy
