Nigeria Update #8 - Thursday 12/6/12

Update #8
We were not able to post from Nigeria as we had planned. This is an update that I wrote while there. Please scroll down for additional updates or see a list of Recent Posts to the left.

10:25 AM
We are waiting to be picked up for the first day of the Ministers Conference. I am excited and nervous. I always wonder if people will show up!

Poor Kelly Jo did not go to sleep until after 5:30 this morning. I slept the first 2 hours of the night and she took the last 2. She is wiped out. I know you are praying and I know God is our strength.

5:30 PM
We are just back from the conference and dinner. The first day of the ministers conference was great. The attendance was very good and the response to the preaching was awesome.

We are expecting visitors shortly. We met some Baptist missionaries from Iowa earlier in the week and we invited them over.

They are 60 years old and just this year came to Abeokuta as missionaries. They had pastored for 26 years in the states. That is a pretty adventurous step.

8:20 PM. We had a great visit with the Hull's this evening. They brought German hotdogs that hit the spot and we shared all of our american snacks with them including Kelly Jo's miniature Hershey bars.

It is really neat to hear how a life long pastor came to be a missionary in Nigeria. It is pretty amazing. You have to hand it to them for their willingness to step out in faith. I am glad we were able to visit with them.

The services today were so good. I appreciate all those that were praying for services #7 and #8. God honored your prayers.

It amazing to me how these ministers and church workers respond so well to my simple preaching. I know it must be God working in their hearts and lives.

I mentioned this morning that my greatest fear in preaching these meetings is that nobody will come. But they did come and they did respond and I believe it will be better each day.

It was great to see some friends from different areas of Nigeria. They were very kind to travel to Abeokuta to be with us. Some could only be here today but they came anyway. I Praise God again for the privilege to preach to these wonderful people.

I was demonstrating removing the mote out of Bro. Gary's eye with a beam in my own eye.

Washing feet as a servant.

We tried the fried chicken at Chicken Republic today and it is very good. A little spicy and delicious.

Now, we start another night in Nigeria. God bless you all.

Davy
