Song of Thanksgiving Saturday 2018 Volume 1

Hey Friends,

Welcome to another Saturday post from Odie. This week we spent with all of our dear friends at Iron Post Free Holiness Church. We had a great time with them in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Pastor Kevin Webster and the congregation welcomed us with open arms. It was a wonderful way to conclude our fall tour.

Today we are traveling down the road. I am excited to head toward Ohio and enjoy my home. I am looking forward to spending the Holidays with my family. I love this time of year. I have already conquered a chunk of my Christmas shopping online. I really enjoy the challenge of finding a great gift for my loved ones.

Before I totally immerse myself in all things Christmas, I want to stop and be grateful during Thanksgiving season. In our blessed country we set aside a day of Thanksgiving every November. I want to daily be grateful for the countless blessings that God has bestowed upon me, but the Thanksgiving season causes me to ponder those blessings a little closer.

I lack the words to describe my complete thankfulness to God! Songs help me to reflect on the gifts of God. That brings me to Songs of Thanksgiving 2018. I decided that over the next few weeks that I would use a few songs of thanks to express my heart of gratitude.

The song I am featuring today is 26 years old, but the message still rings true. The lyrics of Thank You have rolled continuously through my mind the for several days. It was recorded by my favorite artist the Isaacs on their Live In Atlanta album. It has been re-released on a few different projects through the years.

As I prepared for this post, I listened to the the song several times. I allowed the words to soak into my heart. I was moved to tears when I remembered my many undeserved and unacknowledged blessings. I do not want to be ungrateful.

Dear God, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have given me!

You can find the song here on Apple Music and here on YouTube. Please take a moment to listen to this wonderful song. Take some time to think about what God has done for you. If you are like me, it will make your day a better to Thank God one more time!

I will close with the lyrics to Thank You. To all my fellow Isaacs fans, I hope you enjoyed this blast from the Isaacs past.

Do you have a favorite Song of Thanksgiving? I would love to hear about it in the comments below. I appreciate you spending part of your day with me today. Have a fantastic weekend.

Odie

Thank You
Written by Sonya Isaacs and Shelton Feazell

Chorus

Thank you for the things that I never thanked you for
You’ve given everything I need
And still I asked for more
It’s not that I’m ungrateful
I’m just forgetful Lord
So I thank you for the things
That I’ve never thanked You for

Verse 1

There are so many blessings
That you have given me
Things I take for granted every day
The beauty of creation
And the promise of my salvation
Lord help me to remember when I pray

Chorus

Thank you for the things
That I never thanked you for
You’ve given everything I need
And still I asked for more
It’s not that I’m ungrateful
I’m just forgetful Lord
So I thank you for the things
That I’ve never thanked You for

Verse 2

Now when my way grows weary
And rest is hard to find
Sometimes I can’t see my way through
When it seems that I am blinded
That’s when I need to be reminded
That the strength I thought was mine
It came from you

Chorus

Thank you for the things
That I never thanked you for
You’ve given everything I need
And still I asked for more
It’s not that I’m ungrateful
I’m just forgetful Lord
So I thank you for the things
That I’ve never thanked You for

So I thank you for the things
That I’ve never thanked You for
Thank you Lord

Revival In Pictures - Locust Grove, Oklahoma

It has been an incredible week at Iron Post Holiness Church near Locust Grove, Oklahoma. We have enjoyed being with longtime friends, having great services and all the other wonderful things that come with revival. We love coming here and we look forward to coming back in the future.

Pastor Kevin Webster has been a part of this church for well over 30 years. In June, Pastor Travis Martin resigned after 39 years and Bro. Webster became the Pastor. It has been a smooth transition and it is a joy to watch these two great men work together for the glory of God.

Bro. Kevin and Sis. Webster have had a great impact on our lives. They preached revivals at our home church back in the 90's and we loved having them in our home as much as possible. That is when we were all young and could stay up half the night and still go to work.

In the early 2000's they preached at least two revivals for us in Wichita, Kansas. They were a tremendous encouragement to us and we value their friendship. We love Bro. Kevin, Sis. Teresa and their family.

We have one more service tonight and then we will turn our attention toward Ohio. We have much to do in order to be prepared for Nigeria and Odie is very excited about spending time in her little Beach Cottage soon. We will be homeward bound.

I hope you enjoy this Revival In Pictures. Thank you for stopping in.

We were excited and blessed to meet the Millikin's for lunch on Tuesday.

Take Care Our Spirits Are Not Sharpened

Frankly, friends, we are slammed this week with ministry paperwork, sermon preparations, last minute travel readiness and meeting the level of commitment that this church deserves from us during the revival. We have no complaints. This is what we signed up for. We love this, even the busyness of it all.

If you throw in a little bus work Wednesday and preparing the BoggsMobile for the well below freezing temperatures the weather guessers are predicting tonight and tomorrow night, I have not had time to contemplate, much less write any profundity down.

I did run across something of interest Tuesday morning after I had already published Tuesday's post about elections. I sent it by text to a few of my friends that morning.

I was looking for a certain quote from John Wesley for a sermon I am writing for the Minister's Conference in Nigeria. I found the quote I was looking for, but it was not as I had remembered it. It did not fit my point at all. That happens to me at times. However, there was a quote from John Wesley a little further down the page and it completely wiped me out.

It was from John Wesley's Journal and it was dated October 6, 1774. Here it is.

I met those of our society who had votes in the ensuing election, and advised them
1. To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy
2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against, and
3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.

Wow! That is powerful, insightful and knocks our heads together in 2018 as much as it probably did in 1774. Wow again!

People love to talk about politics, elections, issues and candidates. That is OK. I enjoy the exchange of ideas. I have firm opinions about economic systems, taxes, social issues and a bunch of other things. There are oodles of people who absolutely disagree with almost everything I believe.

That is fine. Let us talk about it. Unfortunately, most people can not discuss these things without degenerating into calling each other nasty names and assigning each other corrupt motives and questioning their sanity.

A man talking with me recently went on and on about people voting opposite of him, finally making the serious statement that he did not think anyone that voted that way was saved or could go to Heaven.

It was not the first time I have heard that from people, but it might be the first time some one had expressed those thoughts and then ask my opinion. I knew he wanted me to applaud his wisdom, but I could not.

I said with a smile, "Fortunately, people are not going to hell just because you said they are, brother." I left him spitting and sputtering. (Speechless is not always a bad thing) The conversation was over.

The incredible thing is, I probably agree with 90% of this man's opinions, but I could not, would not join him in sending people to hell for disagreeing. Now, I may be going with them, in his opinion.

I believe John Wesley was on to something when he said to speak no evil of the person they voted against and to take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.

Would people listen to John Wesley today? Would they like it? Probably not, but I imagine they did not like it much in 1774 either.

He was right and is still right.

Thank you for stopping in today.
