On The Road Again Newsletter

We are having a great revival at Bible Holiness Church in Elkton, Virginia. Odie is taking lots of pictures and we plan to post them tomorrow morning. 

We are having a difficult time with the final plumbing inspection on the house being built for Odie to live in. I am sure it will be taken care of, but it makes me nervous because of the schedule we need to meet next week. 

My Dad is dealing with the plumber and inspector handling most of the leg work. I appreciate that so much. I can not imagine what I would do without his help.

Vintage View Vednesday BoggsMobile Floor July 2009

When we purchased the bus that became the BoggsMobile in late March of 2008, it had dingy grey, well used berber carpet on the floor. I am quite sure the dirty looking carpet is one of the reasons the bus had not sold before. We were able to overlook it knowing that someday we could replace it.

By March of 2009 we had saved some money toward replacing the carpet and Kelly Jo had decide she wanted some type of dark wood. The consensus from bus folks at the time was against real hardwood in the bus and going with an engineered hardwood instead.

Pastor Philip Deane (Dr. Phil) was visiting us in the BoggsMobile during Allentown Fellowship Meeting the second week of March and we told him what we wanted to do. He told us a national store was having a great sale. He suggested picking out the flooring we wanted and having it shipped to the store in Charlottesville, Virginia. 

He also volunteered his brother Eddie to help install it when we were in Virginia in July of that year. That is how we all converged in Elkton, Virginia in July of 2009 for the big BoggsMobile floor project.

We obtained permission to park at the Bible Holiness Church. In fact, we were parked in the exact spot we are parked in right this moment. We arrived, began revival for Pastor Buzzy Deane at Sandy Bottom and we went to work. 

I posted pictures from that revival last Wednesday. Today I have never before posted pictures from the BoggsMobile flooring install. We had a great revival, laughed during the day until we cried, enjoyed wonderful fellowship and got a new floor too!

Dr. Phil and Deacon Eddie did a great job installing the engineered hardwood in the BoggsMobile. We have enjoyed it for almost nine years and it looks like it will be in good shape for many years to come.

Eddie got a little too much glue on the floor beside the bed and it called for extreme measures to get the situation taken care of. Of course, you know we were right on the scene to capture it in pictures. 

I have shown this picture to a few hundred of my closest friends.

Wow! The Skyline Drive In Shenandoah National Park

No visit to this area in Virginia feels complete to us without a visit to Shenandoah National Park and an excursion down the Skyline Drive. Wow! What a beautiful place! We first visited here in the early 90's and we loved it the first time.

The Shenandoah National Park is a long, narrow park that runs along the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. The Skyline Drive zigzags north and south 105 miles through the middle of the park and is the only public road in the park. 

There are only four access points along the 105 miles of Skyline Drive including the entrances at each end. Thankfully, the Swift Run Gap entrance on Hwy 33 is only 6 miles from where I am sitting in the BoggsMobile at Bible Holiness Church in Elkton, Virginia.

With an access point so close, it is easy for us to drive up there even when we only have a few minutes to enjoy it. There is one drawback. Shenandoah National Park does have an entry fee, like many of the National Parks and the fees are raising again soon.

The fee for one car with up to four adults is $25 and is good for seven days. I think that is going up to $30. 

If you are disabled, you can get a lifetime Access Pass that allows entrance into the National Parks for free. There is no charge for that pass.

If you are 62 or older you can purchase a lifetime Senior Pass for a one time fee of $80. That price jumped from $10 in August of 2017.

The weather was cool, windy, rainy and foggy this past week when we meandered along the Skyline Drive. It was not a great time for long spectacular views of the valley or sensational pictures, but we loved every minute of the day.

It was relaxing to drive along, stopping at the overlooks and walking along some of the trails. We love rain and fog anyway and these mountains bring out the best of that type of weather.

Tell me, what is not to love about this?

Well, not much to see at this overlook below, but it sure was fun getting there!

We saw two Black Bear along the drive. One of them was very thoughtful to pose for my picture as he hopped up on the wall next to the road, although he did look away at the last moment.

There were two bear when I raised my phone for the picture above. The first bear over the wall stuck his face up over the wall and looked right at us. Only his face and ears were above the wall about six feet to the left the bear you see. It was so cute.

Unfortunately I was a little slow on the draw with my phone.

We saw small groups of deer along the road and crossing the road for several miles one stretch. We only captured pictures of a few of them. With the heavy fog it was unsafe to stop next to the road very much.

There was  a tree across one trail and the vine system growing throughout the tree was amazing.

101 miles of the Appalachian Trail are also in the Shenandoah National Park. You KNOW that Kelly Jo and I are big hikers and we had to hike some of the Appalachian Trail, right?

The Appalachian Trail is another wonder in itself. We may have to walk the whole 2190 miles some year.

We are enjoying our time in this part of Virginia. We have all of this beauty and blessed to be part of revival too. It does not get much better than this!

Weekend Woundup and Weview May 21, 2018

I hope you had a good weekend. Ours was tremendous even with less than perfect weather by some standards. It was a mostly rainy weekend, but capped off with an absolutely beautiful feast of sunshine for Homecoming Sunday. It was a gorgeous day blessed with wonderful services, great fellowship and a tremendous meal. Awesome!

Saturday evening we caught a glimpse of sunlight.

Sunday morning started brighter and built all day.

This is our second Homecoming revival for Pastor Brent Gabbard at Bible Holiness Church. We love being here with him and all of his fine people. They love to have church and they do Homecoming up right. 

The church and visitors responded so well Sunday morning and God helped us all in the altar. It was a great Homecoming in more ways than one.

My girls captured some great pictures from the day and we have a bunch of them below.

Bro. and Sis. Gabbard have become grandparents twice since we were here last.

The fellowship hall was decorated very nicely and the food was wonderful.

There was no afternoon "Homecoming" service so we all had a chance to rest a bit before service Sunday evening. That service was good as well. It is a wonder that the service even went passed the choir singing.

We were surprised by friends, Frankie and Pat Shiflett. We met them three years ago on the other side of the mountain and Frankie was able to attend one night last week at the Rock Church. It was so good to see them Sunday night. Thanks for coming, friends.

We did some driving and "hiking" in the national park nearby earlier, but I may have more on that later in the week. That pretty much wraps up our weekend. Thank you for visiting us today.
