Weekend Woundup and Weview #50

The weekend did not go exactly as we had it planned but we rolled with the punches and it worked out fine. In fact, it was a pretty good weekend to be alive and with God's people and in God's service.

I hooked up the Green Machine while still in our parking place at Riverdale about mid-morning Friday and we pulled out about noon. We should have been on the road earlier but there was really no reason to hurry.

We went down 99 and then turned on 58 at Bakersfield and began one of our favorite drives in the BoggsMobile. We love going through the Tehachapi Mountains. It is a beauty that we never grow tired of no matter what the season.

It was a little overcast at times and the view was not always clear, but we loved it anyway. Here are a few pictures, bug guts and all.

We pulled into the Los Angeles area about dark and settled into a parking lot for the night. We had plans to go to downtown LA Saturday to visit the Fashion District and we had plans to visit two churches Sunday morning.

We made it to downtown LA Saturday morning and parked the car in a $10 lot.

There are a bunch of parking lots downtown and many of them have big signs advertising $3 and $5 parking. But that is for the first 15-30 minutes and the maximum rate is $12 or much higher. We did see one or two $8 lots that seemed legit later while walking.

The girls love to walk through the blocks and blocks and blocks of stuff and I love to walk pass the food trucks very, very slowly! We make a great team.

We had a wonderful day and Kelly Jo and Odie found some super great bargains on clothes. The weather was perfect for walking around and we visited with a bunch of nice people too.

We went back to the bus with full intentions of getting up Sunday morning and visiting two churches. We wanted to go back to a church we visited last year when we were here in the spring and we wanted to go to another church that we had learned about.

We did not make it to either one. Kelly Jo was not feeling well and could not nap Saturday evening and she could not sleep a wink Saturday night. Plus she had only slept an hour Friday night.

She could hardly stand upright when we began to get ready for church at 6:00 AM Sunday morning. I sent her back to bed and she was able to rest a few hours.

Since we did not drive over an hour to church Sunday morning as we had planned and we did not go to the second service in the afternoon, we were able to pull into the church in Bloomington before 2:00 PM Sunday. I think we were parked and shutting down the bus right at 2:00.

It is great to be back in Bloomington, California with Pastor Deatherage and all of his fine folks. We were last here for revival in March 2016 and it was like we had not missed a beat. We picked right up where we left off last year. God blessed us with a wonderful altar service.

We had great fellowship after church too. We appreciate them treating us so well. We hope to have a bunch more pictures later in the week.

That wraps up our weekend. Thank you for joining us.

View Out The Front Window December 3, 2017

Here are the links to our posts from the last week. Please take a moment to check them out.

This was our view out the front window this morning.

This morning we are visiting a church that we visited in the spring of 2016 in Los Angeles. Tonight we plan to begin revival in Bloomington for Pastor John Deatherage. I hope you have a great Sunday.

A Praise On My Lips

Hey Friends,

This is Odie checking in from California. Our visit to this beautiful state has been wonderful but is coming to an end too quickly. We should be leaving the state one week from today. I am already looking forward to our next visit to California. I love getting to be with all our friends out here.

I have a true story that has been bubbling in my heart  lately. I hope it makes sense when I write it. This happened several years ago and I thought I would share it with you.

We were at a church and the pastor's daughter was very inquisitive about my handicap. She was full of questions. I tried my best to answer them on a three year old level of understanding, but her questions have given me many laughs and smiles.

One night at church, this little girl crawled into my lap and asked me, “Are your teeth crippled too? How are you talking to me?” She was dead serious and cracked me up! I have laughed at her question for years.

In church the other night, when that story came to my mind, I began to thank God that I could talk. I have a mouth that I can use to worship God. I have pondered this a lot in the last couple of weeks. Even though my brain does not allow my legs to work properly, I am able to speak and think.

That is a major blessing in my life.

As I write this today, I am writing with a grateful heart.

My mind and reasoning process could have easily been affected by the cerebral palsy.

Or I could have a perfect mind, yet have a body that could not respond at all to the commands of my mind. I could be trapped inside with no way to communicate with my voice.

I praise God for my voice.

Now, what will I do with the voice that I have been blessed with? Will I use it to grumble about the handicaps I do have? Will I use my lips to complain, gossip, slander and criticize?

God forbid! I must use my voice, my mouth, to praise my God!

Psalms 34:1 “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Join me today in using your lips to praise God for his goodness. He is worthy to be praised and we have been given the ability to praise Him.

Thank you for visiting us. I hope you have a fabulous weekend.

A Night At Avenal Assembly

We had a wonderful Thursday night with Pastor Doug Spencer and his church and family at Avenal Assembly. Avenal, California is about 45 minutes south and west of Riverdale. The BoggsMobile remained parked at Riverdale and we took the Green Machine to church.

We love the beautiful drive down to the church from Riverdale. The sun goes down very early here during this time of year so we were not able to enjoy the view completely. It was still a pleasant drive.

We have been going to Avenal for several years and we always enjoy being with them. It is a fun place to sing. The music is great and the people are easy to sing to. They also seem to love to hear the preaching. Since preaching the Word is our ultimate goal, folks liking preaching is a pretty cool bonus.😀

They sang a couple of songs to begin the service and then Pastor Spencer turned the service to us. We sang quite a bit and then moved right into preaching. It was a good night with a good response in the altar.

I hate that we are so limited on time during this visit to California. We would love to stay in Avenal longer. By God's grace, we will return to be with our friends again.

Here are a few pictures from our night in Avenal. I hope you enjoy them. Thanks for reading today.
