A Little More Forward Motion

My personal work load was not difficult yesterday but I am wore out from watching Bro. Jimmie set tile in the shower and John work his magic with drywall mud. Both these guys put a bunch of muscle, brains and determination into their tasks Wednesday and it shows!

This picture of these two beautiful ladies shows some of the drywall progress behind them.

If the mud has dried well overnight, John plans to put on another coat today and sand it Friday. That is exciting!

The shower looks absolutely fantastic and Bro. Jimmie will probably get it grouted today and then finish the floor as well. I am looking forward to showing you pictures from that whole process. The finished product is going to look great!

Kelly Jo and Odie did a super job picking out materials and envisioning the end result. Bro. Jimmie is doing a super job making their vision a reality.

We all made a trip to Lowe's for grout and this is the scene that greeted us when we walked outside.

That is a pretty good ending to a pretty good day.

Thanks for dropping in.

Walls That Now LOOK Like Walls

There have been walls standing on the house since May 23rd. That was an extremely exciting day! We have big smiles on our faces today because we have walls that actually LOOK like walls now!

I mentioned HERE a couple weeks ago that we were in Danville, Kentucky preaching a youth service for Pastor David Noe and Olde Path Holiness Church. It was a wonderful night. They had food and fellowship after the service and we stayed and visited a little while before driving home.

Bro. Corwin Cain and his family were also visiting the service and he asked me before we left where we were in the house construction process. I told him that drywall was being delivered the next week. One thing led to another and Bro. Corwin text me on the way home and told me he was bringing a group of men to hang and begin finishing the drywall one week later! Awesome!

The drywall was delivered near the end of last week.

I have already posted about most of the preparation toward the end of the week for the drywall. The safe room was block was laid and the pocket door frames were installed.

We insulated a few walls for sound, such as these two walls between the bathrooms and the living room and kitchen area.

We also insulated the wall between the two bedrooms.

On Friday the plumber installed the tub/shower kit in the second bathroom just in time for drywall.

Saturday morning Bro. Corwin and his gang showed up ready to work and work they did.

We provided pizza and some finger foods for lunch.

We appreciate all of these guys working so hard. We had a lot of fun but they drove a long way and exerted a lot of energy to produce all that fun!

This is Jeremiah Vaughn, Doc Fox, Jim Bryant, Corwin Cain, Jacob Cain and of course, Odie.

Jim Bryant's brother brought his sons from Rushville, Indiana and worked all day too.

Bro. Chuck Bryant in blue and his sons Elijah and Blake.

May God bless these men for their kindness and willingness to help us. They gave us a huge boost!

Kelly Jo, Lisa Isaacs, Karen Boggs, my Mom and probably a few others served lunch for the guys working, then cleaned up afterward.  Most of that same crew plus at least Steve and Deidre tidied up the house and picked up the drywall scraps at the end of the day. It was a successful day because everyone jumped in and assisted wherever they could! Thank you all!

Yesterday morning Bro. Corwin and Bro. Jim sent John from Williamsburg, Kentucky to finish all the drywall. He is off to a real good start and is planning to be back this morning.

This looks like a wall in a house folks!

It sure looks like we are going to be ready for paint soon! I will post more pictures as the work progresses.

Thanks for reading today.

Around The Block!

We were coming down to the wire on the block in the closet but Terry Amburgy Masonry came through right on time. Terry and his crew also laid the block for the foundation back in May. They did a great job on the foundation and a great job on the closet as well.

The closet was framed oversize on purpose with the intent of it doubling as a safe room for Odie during storms. Safe rooms are not common in Ohio but Odie has no way to flee very far to safety during a tornado warning, so including a safe room in her house makes perfect sense to us.

Here is a picture with the first row of block laying around the perimeter.

We left a 73" opening during the framing stage as you can see in the pictures above. The framed wall will have a 36" pocket door and the block wall will have a 36" steel door that will swing inward. The steel door will remain open until Odie needs to take shelter and then she can shut it.

Everything was in place early Friday morning.

They took quite a bit of time to get their corners correct and to build an ingenious system to keep it straight all the way up.

They filled every block cavity and put lots of #5 (5/8") rebar at the appropriate intervals.

They finished about 9:30 or 10:00 Friday night. and then cleaned everything up. There was an amazing about of mortar on the floor but it was gone by the time they left. Terry and his guys really went the extra mile to finish Friday night so that we could install the pocket door frame, clean up and be ready for drywall Saturday morning.

I mentioned yesterday the several people helped us late Saturday night and we sure appreciate it very much.

By the time we turned out the lights Friday night there was a 36" opening in the framed wall for the pocket door and a 40" opening in the block wall for the 36" steel door.

Terry and his guys showed up early Saturday morning and cleaned up the outside area. These guys were amazing and I highly recommend them. Of course, you better get in line. I know they turn down a bunch of work because they do not have time to do it all.

Later this week we are going to hang the metal door and David Butler is going to pour a concrete ceiling. That will put us well on our way to completing this phase of the project.

That takes you around the block. I appreciate you dropping in today to read a little bit and look at pictures.
