Block and Drywall

The next two days are big days at the house. Today the block layers are coming to lay some block. The walk-in closet will double as a safe room so that Odie can take refuge in the event of bad storms. This is something we really wanted to include since Odie can not flee the house easily at all.

We were hoping the block would be laid in June but we are glad to get it now. They should be able to finish in one day. Once they are finished I have one more set of pocket door hardware to hang. We left it out so the block layers did not have to work around it but it needs to be in place by Saturday morning.

The second big thing this weekend is drywall. Bro. Corwin Cain is bringing a crew to hang the sheetrock and begin to finish it on Saturday. That is really exciting for us. Once it is finished we can help Kelly Jo's Dad start slinging paint. Once the paint is started we can hang cabinets and make this place start looking like a house. 

While the block is being laid, the sheetrock is supposed to be delivered early this morning so we will have a lot of activity. We have cleared room for the sheetrock to lay in the floor and we have tried to make room near all the walls to hang it. We have a little more to do on that and I need to insulate a few interior walls for sound today. The plumber has a little more to do as well.

With all that needs to be completed, I better get to work.

Jimmie Radcliffe - A Family Member Coming Home

Bro. Jimmie Radcliffe will be here again soon and we are super excited to see him. We have missed him terribly. I think someone may need to shorten the distance between Ohio and Oklahoma. I was going to make a joke about removing Illinois but I have too many friends there.😁 Plus Jimmie is originally from Illinois and he may want to stop and see his family.

Jimmie and his parents and one of his brother's family have prepped the big tent trailer and loaded it up with cabinets for the house.

Then Bro. Jimmie picked up the metal door for Odie's safe room and all of the interior doors in Oklahoma City.

Each one of these items has a great  story to tell and the stories will be told in good time. Right now, we can hardly wait to see the big truck and trailer pull into the Lazy OD Ranch again. 

It was a sad day for me personally and for my girls when Bro. Jimmie pulled out last November.

The smile turned upside down and my eyes started leaking when his truck and trailer rounded the curve and started heading for Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

All will be well soon! AND we are so happy about it!

A Super Tuesday

We really had a great day yesterday. It was so good, that I will label it a super Tuesday without a doubt.

Drywall will be hung soon in the house so there are several things that need to be completed before then. One of those things is the pocket door hardware. The house we are building for Odie has seven pocket doors. Three of them are 36" and four of them are 42". Learning how to install the hardware was the main task Tuesday.

I have never installed pocket door hardware before so it is a learning process. Plus the 36" and the 42" are different brands and even different designs. That means we are learning it all twice. Between me and Dad, I think we just about have it.

This is the 36" door between the kitchen and the utility room. Originally this door was drawn to be a 42" door but as the plans developed it was evident there was not enough room.

Bro. Bennie Sutherland, our Pastor, came by the house today with Renae and Jacqueline Coffman. It was great to see them and to drink a little salsa while they were in town.

It was Renae and Jacqueline's first trip to Acapulco. That is hard to believe!

Bro. JR Alexander preached great at Dryden Rd. Tuesday night. The sermon was definitely a Word from the Lord for us and our home church.

God worked in miraculous ways in the altar service for over two hours. It was awesome and was a tremendous way to top of a super Tuesday! We are looking for more great things today.

The Water Line

Monday was a big day in the house project. The inspector from the county came out and put his stamp of approval on the insulation. Now we are free to sprint (or jog) to the finish line. The inspector is finished until we are ready to hook up the electricity or pour the concrete on the porches. That seems like a big milestone to me.

While we were busy last week with the insulation and all that was involved in that process, we had other things going on as well. We have been waiting on the plumber to hook up the water line to the house for several weeks. He was going to have to rent a backhoe to do it and had not been able to shake free to get it done.

Kelly Jo noticed a backhoe next door at the Dodds Church so I walked over Wednesday morning and talked to the guy about maybe digging 15' of ditch. His name is Jamie Struewing and he came over about 5:00 after a long day of working at the church. He looked at the situation and then brought his backhoe to the house.

40 minutes after placing his machine in position, he had the ditch dug. It was a tricky place to dig because of the porch roof but he handled it expertly. After I saw how close the backhoe had to be to the roof, I amd very glad we had a professional on the job. He also dug the ditch at a very reasonable cost. Thank you, Mr. Struewing.

Thursday morning I told the plumber the ditch was dug so he sent his guys over to hook up the water line.

The water company had strongly recommended using brass compression fittings when we initially put the water line in last November. I did not want to go to all of that trouble and expense and then let this last connection be the weak link, especially since this connection will be under the driveway. I sent Kelly Jo to Dayton to buy this coupling over a month ago so we had it ready to go.

I was going to fill the ditch with gravel that evening but once we realized that storms were on the way, I jumped in and filled it shortly after noon. We finished just before the deluge.

I did not get a picture of the finished ditch but I will try to take one this morning and add it to the post.

We are very glad to get the water hooked up. We are at the point in the building process now where every step pushes it a little bit closer to completion. The water is a big step.

Weekend Woundup and Weview #30

I thought this was going to be the first weekend in several weeks that we did not leave Ohio. It almost worked out that way but we did make a quick jaunt down to Kentucky Friday. More about that later...

I posted Friday morning about the insulation that Matt and Lysa Howell installed Wednesday and Thursday. I told you then that I would add a few pictures from the attic. These were taken from the current attic entrance. 

The vaulted ceiling looks really cool with the spray foam insulation on top but I did not have enough light to get the pictures right.

My Dad said that Odie should be able to cool this house with an ice cube and heat it with a Bic lighter. I hope so! With all LED lighting, that should keep her electric bill down around $25!😉 She may have to purchase a few Bic lighters each month during the winter but I found a 100 count package for $17 on Amazon!😁

Friday afternoon we drove to Danville, Kentucky to preach a youth service for Pastor David Noe and Olde Path Holiness Church. We had great fellowship from other churches and God ordained a wonderful service. It was a fabulous blessing to be with our friends Friday night.

Pastor David Noe surprised us by receiving a special offering for the house we are building for Odie. We were blown away by their kindness and generosity. There were other good things that came from that service. I will let you know more about that as it becomes a reality.

Here are a few pictures from Friday night.

Pastor Lucas Hedgespeth and Pastor David Webb surprised us by coming over to Danville to be in service. They were a wonderful blessing to the service and to us personally.

Pastor David and Sis. Karen Noe have been our dear friends for many years. We love being in their presence every chance we can get. They are precious, Godly people.

My Dad came to help us on the house again Saturday. We are trying to make sure everything is ready for drywall. Saturday we were making sure the spray foam was trimmed in all the right places, insulating around the windows and doors and caulking quite a bit.

Also Bro. David Butler came Saturday and ground some high places in the concrete. Kelly Jo worked most of the day cleaning up all that mess and the mess that Dad and I were making too.

Since we were operating on about four hours of sleep after driving home Friday night, we all took a nap at 4:00! That may have been the best decision I made all day. We finished the day with Kelly Jo cleaning and me mowing grass and making a Home Depot run. It was a full day.

We attended Dryden Rd, our home church, both services Sunday. We did sing but it was wonderful to hear Pastor Gary Lee Sunday morning and Pastor Bennie Sutherland Sunday night!

Bro. Bennie also received a special offering for the house. That brings us close to even and we are very thankful for that.

It is time to get back to work. Thank you for dropping in to sit and read a spell.

We did not stay overnight in Kentucky Friday so our view has not changed this week. I do have a nice picture to share with you though. This is the new view in the attic of the house we are building for Odie to live in.
