My Birthday and The Isaacs

Hello, this is Odie and I am checking in from the BoggsMobile at home in Waynesville, Ohio. Before I get to the main subject of this post, I want to wish Carli Milikin a Happy Birthday. Carli Rose I hope you have a fantastic 10th birthday! We love you! We loved eating lunch with you and your family yesterday.

 

My Birthday and The Isaacs 

We left the tent site in Fayetteville last Saturday, but as Dad told you in Monday's post he had a detour planned for Sunday night. This detour was a surprise birthday gift for me. I did not suspect it.

Now as an faithful Isaacs schedule watcher, I will admit I knew they were close (Within a few hours of us) Sunday night. I also knew they were not on our route home. I knew we could not go and I was okay with that.

When the BoggsMobile got sick on the road Sunday I had no idea what in the world we were going to do. Then Dad came inside and explained his original plan to me. He had intended to pull into the church where the Isaacs were setting up a few hours early and surprise me. There was no way that was going to happen with the bus broke down.

Dad apologized that it did not work out the way he planned. He then told me to be ready in 20 minutes, that Mom and I were taking the Green Machine to see the Isaacs and that he would follow when the BoggsMobile was rolling again. I was shocked and surprised!

We were able to cross paths with the Isaacs in Mobile, Alabama back in January. I was very ready to see them again!  It had not worked out again so far this year, although we did get to spend a few hours with Ben in Nashville in February.

Sunday night was an amazing night with the Isaacs. The church was full of people ready to hear some incredible singing and music.

The Isaacs did a few favorites from their older projects. Most of the concert they featured new music from Nature's Symphony in 432. I love getting to hear the new music live and in person. I can not get enough of the new music. It is awesome and I have listened to it daily since it was released in September. 

It was an awesome evening! Once again the talent of my favorite group leaves me speechless and amazed. 

I met some fellow Isaacs fans. We had a great time getting acquainted. I will probably bump into them at another Isaacs concert along the road. 

It was so good to see two of my favorite little guys. Gatlyn in now 10 months old and Adyen is 5 years old and loving kindergarten. They are special fellows and I love every chance I get to see them. 

We were able to visit some with all the gang. We love any time we get the to visit with them. To all the Isaacs, I love you and you are the best. 

Mark and I decided to try teamwork at get the equipment ready to load. 

 

Then Dad decided I needed to be loaded in the trailer with the rest of the equipment. 

Then the BoggsMobile and Green Machine are ready to roll on down the road. I am already anticipating seeing the Isaacs again very soon. 

Before I close for today, I want to give this beautiful lady a shout out on the blog. Becky you are amazing. Thank you for being my friend and a great inspiration!! I love you!

Travel Days Toward Home

The first of this week was mostly travel with a little rest and recuperation thrown in for good measure. We only drove after church Sunday night about 100 miles and stopped in a beautiful rest area along I-26. There are times that it is difficult to find a place to park along the road at night but this rest are was huge and had plenty of room. It was a very peaceful place to park.

Monday we had a gorgeous drive into east Tennessee. We have not been in the beautiful mountains much during peak leaf season the last few years and we have missed it. For several years we preached revival at Beechfork near Knoxville during October but we have not been able to do it because of tent revivals. We plan to get back to that wonderful habit.

It was nice to be back in the mountains as the leaves are changing.

Monday evening we stopped at an RV Park in Tennessee. I include this picture because it was the first time we had plugged into electricity since we left the Richton Park in Richton, Mississippi over two week before.

We loved the mountains so much that we rested Tuesday and spent another night in the campground. That day of rest was just what the doctor ordered. We drove some in the mountains and did as much of nothing as we could fit in to 24 hours. It also gave Bro. Jimmie a chance to catch up to us.

Wednesday morning we were up before daylight getting ready to leave. I filled the fresh water tank and emptied the holding tanks waiting for the people around us to stir so we did not wake them all up.



By daylight folks were beginning to crank up and leave so we did the same. Other than one fuel stop we zoomed 310 miles home in only a few hours.

A few hours later, Bro. Jimmie joined us at the Lazy OD Ranch.

It is good to be back home for a few days. We have been to church Wednesday and Thursday nights and we worked on tent stuff Thursday. I will try to have pictures of all that on our weekend update Monday.

A Little Closer to Nigeria

We are now back in Ohio and Bro. Jimmie is here too. We are working on tent stuff today and possibly tomorrow. I will tell you more about our travel days later. Today I have exciting news about our upcoming trip to Nigeria.

We finally received our travel visas yesterday from the Nigerian Embassy. Since we are not supposed to make flight reservations until we know the visas are issued, it was getting pretty late. When we received the email Tuesday night telling us the visas had shipped, we jumped on finishing our travel plans.

The flight prices had been amazingly low a few weeks ago. Since then they have bounced up and down $7-800 at a time. That is enough to give a guy a heart attack. Although we were not able to take advantage of the lowest prices, we were very pleased with the price we found.

Several airlines were offering great deals on multi-city destinations and that opened up opportunities to travel other places to visit and maybe preach on this trip for about the same money. This is a big old world and we have seen so very little of it. We are always excited to hit the road or sky or water or space ship and zoom off to some place new!

I have talked to Bro. Shobanke several times the last week or so. They are having prayer revival the whole month of October. He called Wednesday and said, "We are gathered here  in the church praying for you and your family and your coming to Nigeria. We are believing God for great results." That is super encouraging!

With earnest prayer like that, I believe that God will give us great results. We will be preaching three specific meetings plus individual services as well. Here is a picture of a flyer for the Gospel Crusade in Abeokuta. 

In addition to that meeting, we will also preach the Minister's Conference at Bro. Shobanke's church and a campmeeting in Iwo, Osun State for Pastor Isaac Adewale. Bro. Shobanke said Pastor Isaac has been asking for us to come for quite a while and we are all glad that it worked this year for us to preach the campmeeting.

Another highlight of the trip will be visiting the GoodNews Christian School in Abeokuta. We are looking forward to taking school supplies to the children and seeing first hand the progress on the new classrooms. I fully intend to be able to deliver an offering that will get them very close to finishing the new building, if not completing it all the way.

I love the kids and I love the burden that Bro. Shobanke, his daughters and the workers have to carry on the work of the school. It is a huge task any where to keep a school going but especially in Nigeria. It is so very needful and we are extremely thankful that God has allowed us to be a small part of it. We are anxious to spend some time there.

We still have quite a bit of preparation that must be completed before we leave but with visas in hand and travel reservations made, we are much closer.

Pictures of The Tent Coming Down in Fayetteville, North Carolina

The wind was strong Saturday as we began to take down the tent. That was good and bad. The wind was good because it helped assure that the tent was completely dry before we took it down and packed it away for the winter. The wind was bad because it makes getting the tent on the ground kind of difficult.

Although the wind cooperated somewhat while taking the tent down, folding the tarps was another story. That was hilarious to watch. I thought for a moment that 4-5 people were going to be swept away and land at Kitty Hawk or in the Atlantic Ocean. Since Kelly Jo was one of those people, that would have been tragic!

They did finally get it all down and folded but it was fun while it lasted. We appreciate the folks from Wesleyan Pentecostal Church and a few of the homeless guys that helped us get the tent down. They worked great together and did exactly as they were instructed to do. That makes the whole project much easier.

It has been a super great year under the tent but it did feel good to get it down for the last time this year. Tomorrow we plan to begin transferring all the tent, chairs and other tent stuff from Bro. Jimmie's trailer into our tent trailer. That should be a pretty good task.
