A Prayer For Safety

I debated back and forth whether or not I should post this. There are several tragic news events each week that merit attention that I never mention here. However, this one hits close to home.

As I laid down last night I was horrified when I looked at my phone and saw the story of the bus crash in California that killed at least five people. At least five families lost their loved ones and many more are terribly injured. The events of a few seconds changed many lives forever. It happened on Hwy 99 very close to all our friends in Atwater, California.

We travel Hwy 99 every time we are in the state. It is one of my least favorite stretches of road. It has been improved tremendously the last several years but it feels so unsafe to me as I drive it. I comment on it to Kelly Jo every time we drive 99. The section where this accident occurred is not bad at all and they have not yet determined what caused the crash but I immediately was sick to my stomach when I read the headlines and saw the pictures.

Please pray for these folks and their families and pray for our safety on the road as well. This is why I continually ask folks to pray for us. One blown tire, or debris in the road, or reckless driver of another vehicle or an inattentive moment on my part and that could be us. No, that is not a pleasant thought but it is a reality worth taking seriously and praying about.

Here Comes The Water

The pictures in today's post are a sight for sore eyes. They mean that the water will soon be flowing at the Lazy OD Ranch. We have been looking forward to this day for over 18 months. We paid the tap fee and filled out the application a while back and we were hoping they would be able to get to it soon. They marked the utilities two weeks ago today so I figured they would arrive last week.

I was in the barn Monday morning and looked out the front door about 10:00 AM and saw two trucks pulling in and unloading equipment. I was busy but not too busy to watch this!

The first piece of equipment was this boring machine. I had never watched a boring machine in action so this was really interesting to me. They bored a hole completely under the road in only a few minutes. It was fascinating to watch and to learn.

The second piece of equipment was this small rubber track hoe. They used it to dig the hole where the meter will go and the hole on the other side of the road where they tapped into the main water line.

When they say "water tap" they really mean water tap. The saddle goes around the main line and they literally "tap" into it. It was cool to see it.

They were completely finished in less than 90 minutes. The only thing left to do in order to have water near the barn is to install a little over 300 feet of pipe. Oh and dig the little ol' trench, of course. I will not get to that this trip home but hopefully in the near future I will.

That is all the excitement I could stand for one day. Thanks for reading.

#31 Weekend Woundup and Weview

This has been another super great weekend! It started with sleeping in Friday morning after traveling late Thursday night. Most mornings my eyes open at daylight and that is the end of sleep but I was able to hang in there and get some rest Friday morning.

We had other chores to do Friday but we had one pressing task that had been put off for too long. With four City Reach Campaigns plus a revival and travel in quick succession, I had fallen behind on all of our paperwork. We started at noon and I gave up 13 hours later at 1:00 AM. I told you I had fallen behind.

Kelly Jo took a couple of hours away to meet her family for dinner. They brought Odie back to Waynesville.

I hear they had a great meal and the pictures seem to prove it.

Saturday morning I needed about two hours to finish all the paper work and then I was done. I worked in the barn until it was time to meet my whole family for supper at Outback for my mother's 72nd birthday!

The whole family was there and it was good to be together. The bone-in ribeye was tremendous!

Happy Birthday, Mother Dear!

Dad, Mom and Steve came back to the barn for a while and helped me finish up a few things.

I was trying to get to a stopping point because we had big day planned for Sunday. We were up and gone by 6:20 AM with the Green Machine pointed toward Hodgenville, Kentucky. Pastor David Webb had kindly invited us to be in service with them Sunday morning and we were glad to do it. We always seem to have good services there and Sunday morning was no exception. Praise God for His help in the altar service and Praise God for our friends.

After church we had a great meal and fellowship with the Webb's and the Flynn's from Arkansas.

Soon it was time to hit the road so we could make it to Anchor of Hope near Lebanon, Ohio. Pastor Bill Lamb and Pastor E.J. Lamb keep the door wide open for us at Anchor and we appreciated their invitation for Sunday night. They have been so good to us through the years and Sunday night they covered us with goodness again.

We enjoyed the service, the fellowship and the meal with our dear friends.

By the time we rolled into the Lazy OD Ranch we had logged about 425 miles, had super times with super friends and tremendously enjoyed the blessings of the Lord! I tried to tell you at the beginning this had been a super great weekend!
