A Name is Important

First some pictures of before, during and after deer damage.

The day after we bought it..

With Deer guts...

Without...

As good as new..

We travel along from place to place in the BoggsMobile. We have been pulling Mr. Cheap Jeep behind us for three years. Now that Mr. Cheap Jeep has been retired to a new home and we have a different vehicle to pull we have a little dilemma. What in the world do we call the 2000 GMC Yukon Denali?

My brother Steve has been brainstorming for a name. I don't know what got him started on a name hunt but we had been thinking about it among our little family for several days before. Maybe great minds really do think alike, grapevines really stink a lot, coal miners drink cold pop or something like that...

Anyway, nicknames usually come natural. There was no question early on that the motorhome was The BoggsMobile. The jeep was Mr Cheap Jeep from day one. Odie is just naturally Odie! Odie Podie Pickle Hymer Schmidt evolved very comfortably through the years. Kelly Jo became Kelly Jolene, Josephine, Jody and Josephus. They all just roll off the tongue with no effort. It's a long story and not nearly as funny as it was then but many years ago she was Kelly Jo Mary Vern for quite a while.

But a name for the 2000 GMC Yukon Denali hasn't come naturally. Maybe that's a clue he's not destined to be a long term member of the family. We usually keep cars until they are nearly unusable but maybe we are just a temporary home for him. Even so he still needs a name, don't you think?

What am I supposed to say to Odie? Go get in the Car? Truck? SUV? The GMC Yukon Denali? It all sounds so impersonal. Below is my brother Steve's list. He comes up with some great names and it is interesting to watch his considerable mind at work.

I'm a little partial to General Denali, Mr. Ed and Clarence. In fact I'm partial to several of them. Of course my favorite is his last one but it would never work.

"Odie, load up in the Peacelovedovebeadsbellsincenseandcrashpadsmanfaroutandsolid."

See? It would never work...

Can you help us? Cast your vote or give us a new suggestion in the comments. Do some brainstorming of your own. Have some fun with it.

Tent Revivals 2012 and God Providing a Tent!

For the first part of this story see the previous post.

Tent Revivals 2012 and God Providing a Tent!

I left off yesterday with the following paragraph…
Now… The rest of the story….

We began to genuinely contemplate having tent revivals in 2012 and I knew I needed two things if I was going to do it. I needed a tent of my own with a the capability of expanding for bigger crowds (And the appropriate chairs and all the stuff that goes along with a tent.) but secondly and most important I needed divine direction. Even though I began to plan next summer I knew I needed God to speak to me.  Little did I know that we would receive both of those things in one miraculous event.

I have been in contact with Miami Missionary Tent Company since we set the tent up in Miami, Oklahoma in June. I purchased a patch kit, tent stakes, side walls and a stake puller from them and learned a whole lot about tents from them as well.  They have been an invaluable resource for me this summer. After looking at several tent companies it is my opinion that Miami Missionary Tent Company makes the  best tent on the market and have the best prices too. That is a good combination.

We zeroed in on a 48 foot round tent that can expand to 48x70 oval. This gives us just a little more room than this years tent and is still small enough that it doesn’t swallow a crowd of 100. With it expanded to 48x70 it should seat close to 350 under the tent. We were also considering a similar rectangle tent and a smaller round tent. Each option we were considering was priced in the area of $6500. The tent chairs can be found at around a $1000 per 100 chairs and we would need to purchase 200-300. The tent prices are good until at least December so we had a while to pray and plan.

While in revival at Faith Church in Salem, Kentucky with Pastor Phillip Sanders, his son Bro. Israel Sanders asked me about the tent revivals in casual conversation. We talked about my motivation, the results and future plans. Later in the week, Pastor Sanders told me that Bro. Israel felt like giving a substantial amount toward the purchase of a new tent for our ministry and that the church home mission program was going to make up the difference. I was naturally blown away by their kindness and generosity. I never expected that God would use one church to provide the tent much less that Pastor Sanders, Bro. Israel and Faith Church would be the ones to do it. I can not express how amazed I was and am. It happened so fast it kind of shook my mind. I was shocked, stunned, startled, surprised, astonished, astounded, flabbergasted and dumfounded! You get the picture?

Then came the second thing I needed. When I told Kelly Jo about the tent she started weeping. But she was weeping over much more than God providing a tent. She was weeping because God had provided direction. Kelly Jo knew I was seeking God for direction and she began to do the same. Her prayer was something like this: “God, this summer has been a summer of hard work in these tent revivals. If we do more tent revivals next year it is going to be even harder. We are willing to do it but we really need to know it is your will for us. God, you don’t have to do anything for me. I am not demanding this of you or putting it out as a fleece. If you speak to my husband that is good enough for me. But If you want us to do tent revivals next year you could let me know by giving Davy a tent. You don’t have to do it but if you gave Davy a tent I would know it was your will for us to do tent revivals next summer.”

I cry just reading over that prayer. It is especially touching coming from Kelly Jo. She is one of the most unselfish people in the world and her prayers rarely concern things or stuff. Yet  quietly and without any one else knowing she asks God for one thing in order that she might know His will… and God answered her prayer. Isn’t that amazing? God in His infinite mercy and grace gave us the two things we needed to conduct tent revivals next summer. In one miraculous event God provided a tent AND direction. Wow!

I am so thankful to God for providing the money for the new tent. I am thankful to Faith Church, Pastor Phillip Sanders and Bro. Israel Sanders for their sacrificial giving to our ministry. I know that God will bless them for their giving. I know that because it is a law. We reap what we sow. In fact, that is another amazing part of this story. Are you bored yet? Can I share some more?

On Friday August 26th during service at Dryden Rd. Campmeeting I felt what I now know was the voice of the Lord reminding me of my old 16x32 GP Medium Army tent in storage in Wichita. It is the first tent that I purchased and preached under several times in Wichita, Kansas while I was pastoring there. He reminded me of that tent and I said, “Yes, I remember that tent. I got it out and looked at it in May while I was preaching for Bro. DiZazzo. It is a great tent for 40-50 people but it is not large enough for what I need it to do.”

In my spirit I felt the Lord speak to me to give it away and He could give me another tent. The next day while driving I was talking to my dear friend Bro. Larry Landress a missionary to Mexico. I know he has used tents identical to mine in the past for new churches in remote areas of Mexico until they can build a more permanent structure. I asked Bro. Landress if he could use my tent at this time and he said he could. He told me that with the dangers in Mexico right now he did not know when he could drive it in (They have been flying in to their base about 1450 miles south of the border since the drug cartels make the roads so dangerous) but there was a definite need for it. I told him that the tent now belonged to him and he could go pick it up anytime he wanted it or that I would pick it up the next time I was in Wichita if possible. I also told him what I had felt the day before and he said, “I’m gonna pray that the Lord gives you a tent.”

Honestly, after that conversation I forgot completely about it. I never thought another thing about the Army tent or giving it to Bro. Landress or God replacing it with another tent. I never even thought about it when Pastor Sanders told me what they were going to do or when Kelly Jo told me about her prayer. I never thought about it until Pastor Sanders announced in church that they were going to buy the tent. Then it all came flooding back with lots of tears and emotion. God has proven Himself once again. I can trust his Word!

That’s the story of our Summer of Tent Revivals 2011 and the plan for Tent Revivals 2012. Isn’t God amazing the way He works. I know that God is going to help is in those revivals next year. I know that people are going to get saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. I know that folks are going to be healed, encouraged and blessed. I know that Pastors are going be on fire, churches are going to be stirred and communities are going to be changed.

Can you tell I am excited? We give God all the glory for what He has done and praise Him in advance for what He is going to do. Will you commit to praying for us concerning tent revivals next year? Thank you...

We also have one more tent revival this October in Richton, Mississippi for Pastor Scott Morris. We are expecting great things in Richton as well.

God bless you all,
Davy

Tent Revivals 2011

The post I promised about what God has been doing in our lives is so long that I have divided it up in two posts. The first one concerns Tent Revivals 2011 and the second concerns Tent Revivals 2012 and God Providing a Tent!

Tent Revivals 2011

Wow! What a summer! The Summer of Tent Revival. We set the tent up six times in four different states. We put it up the first time on June 4th and took it down for the last time on August 20th. We had Tent Revivals in Tulsa and Miami, Oklahoma, Weir, Kansas, Elkton and Ruckersville, Virginia and Waynesville, Ohio. In each one of these places churches, Pastors and communities came together to worship and God faithfully met us there.

We saw several folks come to the altar under the tent seeking Christ and finding Him there. Each revival we saw people come to service that previously had not been in the habit of going to church. In some cities we had folks in the services and even in the altars that had never been to any of the local churches. Odie said repeatedly, “It seems so easy to worship and to feel the presence of the Lord outside under the tent” and that feeling was echoed by several folks in every revival.

God answered prayer and met with us this summer.  He saved, healed and encouraged and we are very, very thankful that He did. God honored His Word as He always does. He is faithful, dependable and true and some folks encountered Him for the first time under the tent this summer. That makes the miles, work, sweat and tears worth it all.

There is no way we could have conducted these tent revivals on our own. There are many people responsible for the success of these meetings. We praise God for the local Pastors and their churches that felt a burden for tent revival and asked us to come into their area. We are thankful for the visiting Pastors and churches that faithfully attended and participated in each city. We are especially grateful to our friends and families that prayed, worked and contributed financially. May God bless each of them for their efforts.

There is no way possible to thank the Millikins properly for their contribution to tent revivals this summer. Bro. Jimmy and Sis. Shauna devoted over four weeks of their busy evangelistic schedule to support our ministry and share our burden. They brought years of experience in evangelism, their hands on knowledge of tent revivals and their passion for souls and jumped in head first to help us. I will forever be indebted to them for joining with us. What an encouragement and blessing they were and continue to be this summer. Our family will never be the same after becoming firmly attached to the Millikin family during our Summer of Tent Revivals.

Bro. Eddie and Sis. Tina Deane were also gracious to help us in the tent revivals in Virginia. They handled all of the logistics and carried a lot of the burden for those two revivals. Bro. Deane conducted the services there and did a fabulous job. God used the Deanes in those meetings and we appreciate their efforts so very much.

My dear friend, Bro. Chris Whiffen from Haines City, Florida, loaned us his tent, chairs and platform for the whole summer. I tried for nearly two years to buy his tent but he kept telling me it was not for sale. From the very beginning he offered to loan it to me so finally I accepted his offer and it has been a great blessing to us. His 30x40 tent, nearly 100 chairs and sturdy platform have served us well. Thank you, Bro Whiffen.

Most of all I am thankful that God allowed it all to happen. In fact, it sure seems to me that He directed it all from the very beginning. In the spring of 2009 I thought I felt Him directing me to devote a whole summer to tent revivals. I began to sincerely pray about it right then. I also began looking for a tent, chairs and all the extras needed and in June of 2009 I felt like asking the Millikins to be a part of the tent revivals if they could. After prayer, they accepted and everything else fell into place and the rest is history. God gave us the strength, provided the finance and moved in lives by His power. Praise God for His leading, direction, protection and blessing. It has been an amazing summer!

Well, what now? I honestly did not even stop to seriously consider what the next step would be until we started our tent revivals in June. I guess I figured we would have our Summer of Tent Revivals and then go back to one or two outdoor revivals a year along with our regular schedule of revivals. But even during that first tent revival at Hilldale Church in Tulsa I began to get invitations for tent revivals that I could not possibly fit in this year. That has continued all summer. We now have more invitations for tent revivals that we could possibly squeeze in next summer and fall.

Pastors are telling me they are hungry for revival in their neighborhoods. They are eager to take the message of the Gospel outside the four walls of the church. Their churches are ministering in nursing homes, jails, homeless shelters or on the street. They are bussing in children, feeding meals or providing clothing. They see a need for outreach and a tent revival in their community seems like a logical step. I love churches that are reaching out and I want to be a part of that.

In the next post I will tell you what God did to answer our questions. God is truly amazing.

Metropolis, Illinois

We moved less than twenty miles across the Ohio River to Metropolis Illinois today. We are parked in Fort Massac State Park. It is a beautiful place right along the River. We have parked here a few times before and we always enjoy it. Today is absolutely gorgeous! It might reach 70 today with sunshine and the wind blowing. That's pretty close to perfect in my book. We were parked here in the fall one year as the leaves were changing. We have pictures of that visit HERE.

Last night we closed revival at Southside in Paducah. Pastor Martinez is still very sore from his accident Tuesday so he wasn't able to make it. We missed him terribly but we had a very good service. Please keep praying for him and his little family. After seeing pictures of his bike and the truck that pulled in front of him it is even more obvious that God protected Bro. Martinez. Praise God for sparing his life.

We are preaching and singing two nights for Pastor Russell Gilbert at Cherry Street Pentecostal. The church is very near the state park and our Denali is in the shop about 2.5 miles away. We are expecting to have a great time here before moving on to Missouri on Saturday.

I have been working on a post about some of the things God has been moving in for us. I hope to have it ready to go up tomorrow. God bless you all.

Motorcycle Accident

We spent most of the afternoon and evening in Western Baptist Hospital yesterday in Paducah. Pastor Noah Martinez was on his way home from work when a truck turned left across his lane. Bro. Noah hit the truck broadside with his motorcycle and then slammed into the truck with his body. He hit so hard that the shield on his helmet was busted.

After several hours at the hospital the Doctor said they could see no broken bones and released him to go home. He is scraped up, beat up and banged up but we are thankful it was not worse. The result could have been so different for Sis. Carla, his family, his church and friends. We are praising God for His protection.

Please pray for Pastor Noah Martinez over the next few days.
